Boxing Day Set Menu
We were greeted warmly upon arrival and felt at ease straight away as this was our first visit. The staff were the best, helpful, friendly and attentive. We had a Groupon three course meal which was a set menu. The dishes were first class, the food hot, tasty and superbly cooked. We had a leisurely meal and were not rushed. We shall certainly return in future, without a Groupon, to taste the main menu !
We travelled from Chatham for a Bank Holiday set menu, we enjoyed 3 courses for just £24 a head, fabulous! Crayfish salad and chicken liver pate starters were fresh and delicious, roast beef mains were cooked to perfection and the veg was plentiful and the roasties crunchy to our liking. The deserts of ameretti cheesecake and eton mess were small but jyst enough. Great service but we were sat adjacent to the bar which turned into a holding area and spoilt our deserts with loud and pompous folk leaving children to disturb the diners whilst they drank!
We held our wedding lunch here 14 years ago and went back for anniversary, although it has changed owners the feel and look of the place is still wonderful, food was amazing, staff were attentive and well mannered, won't be leaving it so long before we go back again ,I can't recommend it enough
We came here for Father's Day. The service & food were incredible - we were especially impressed by the lovely South Aftican chef who came out to talk us through our meals (which had a few dietary requirements). The staff couldn't have done more and the mulva pud (a take on sticky toffee) was to die for. And it was great value too. Will definitely be back!
We booked afternoon tea and visited yesterday. The staff were very friendly when we arrived and showed us to our table. The afternoon tea was excellent, everything was made in-house and the food was exceptional. The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much. We were so impressed, we booked for Boxing Day Brunch. We will certainly be visiting on a regular basis now we have found this little gem.
Very plentiful afternoon tea, four different finger sandwiches and four cakes each! Lovely food and great service
My husband and I celebrated our 11th year wedding anniversary this evening at the Hengist. It’s was amazing - as always can I just say.
But what made it extra special this evening was the young gentleman making cocktails, he absolutely smashed it. He made our night...it took us back. We’ve been dining and drinking at the Hengist for 15 years. I hope we’ll be able to say how amazing it is in another 15 years. Thank you
Love this place, always a good vibe in here and now with the huge garden to chill and eat bbq it's a dream plus it's local. X
Had a groupon voucher given to us for Christmas and booked for a Saturday lunchtime. Our choice was from a set menu which had 3 options for starters mains and desserts. Our voucher entitled us to 2 courses plus coffee although we were able to add anything outside of that to our bill. The food was beautifully presented and very good. Staff were all really attentive and very friendly. The actual venue was very nice with a log burner and an overall cosyfeel. Would definitely recommend. There is a free car park just behind the restaurant accessed by gardens owned by Hengist.
Great time here, has been a few years. We all had steak, the service from the new girl was great. I bekuev we met the owner who had good knowledge of wine & also met the head chef who talked about cheeses. It was a geeat experience, and will return again soon!
Great breakfast/brunch to start the day yesterday. Lunch and dinners superb food, service, surroundings, ambience, great value for money, compassionately and professionately led by the owner and his team.
Fabulous meal, had scallops to start followed by pheasant and then apple and ginger pudding with clotted cream, all delicious and lovely to see the chef visiting guests to ask how they enjoyed their food. What a gem of a find in the pretty village of Aylesford, will definitely return and travelzoo deal was brilliant
Excellent food here. Will probably make this my local as only live a few miles away. The food was slightly more expensive but worth it for quality food.Complements to the chef and staff.
Each course was exquisite. The fillet steak was possibly the best I have ever had (and I love my steak!) On an bed of pulled pork and choose the triple cooked chips! I would highly recommend this establishment for either a group our an intimate meal with a loved one.
Good job!
The venue itself is beautiful, lovely setting & the afternoon tea we had was perfect. The only slight criticism I have is that we took advantage of a 'Groupon' offer & the booking opportunity is very limited. You are also made to feel a little second rate as you have a voucher, I've noticed this has a tendency to happen, which begs the question why do these places take part in the scheme? That said we had a very enjoyable time.
Met friends here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Atmosphere and food were very good but think they need a few more staff especially at busy times. Just a couple of suggestions...coffee should be served in cups and saucers rather than just cups; dessert forks would be good too.
Had a wonderful date night here. Very welcoming as we arrived and excellent service. Food was incredible - beautifully presented and of a high standard. Could have done with the staff being a little more attentive towards the end of our meal as we were sat waiting for quite a while to order dessert. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to visiting again as a treat.
After a lot of e mail communication about a past bad experience, I finally discovered that there were a new team running the place
We went for lunch today.
Set menu with a variety of choices
My starter was crab
My main was a mixed beef and lamb undated lunch.
Both courses were delicious, well presented and well cooked and flavoured.
Desserts were sensational. Mine was a Malva dessert, one I had never heard of, it apparently is from the head chefs South African homeland. It was a light sponge with gorgeous toffee sauce, so well worth the journey on its own. My partner also loved her chocolate dessert too.
Staff are very attentive and chef comes out and engages with customers, a wholly memorable experience
Well worth the trip!
We travelled up from Hampshire to spend NYE with special friends and have a lovely meal accompanied by live music! Sounds perfect. We checked 24hrs before that we was in the downstairs restaurant and was assured we in fact were. When we arrived we were taken to a table upstairs in the cocktail bar. We waited 20mins for our drinks order to be taken in the end we took matters into our own hands and eventually we were enjoying our drinks. We then headed downstairs to sit at our table. Again we was left feeling slightly awkward hovering in the doorway, whilst we was told our table was no longer down stairs but upstairs in the back room. When we questioned this we was told that it was not their problem and that was where we was sitting! Maybe this should have been my option to leave but as I said I had friends with us. The back room was just that like sitting in a room with no atmosphere we could not hear the music. Again we had a long wait for our next drink eventually managing to get someone to quench our thirst when they brought out our first course. We was moved downstairs between our main course and desert?!! It was certainly a much more livelier experience downstairs but the moment had been lost but we made the best of it. The menu was not to out taste, except the main course which was very nice. Although the chef did come round which was a very nice touch and it is always hard on a set menu so we wasn’t worried about that. The owner who dining in there came to say goodbye at the end of the night to some friends of his who were sat with us. When my friend tried to speak with him he was very cold and told us he wasn’t going to talk about it. This was not my idea of correct customer service or Fine Dining. I may add that when I lived in Kent I dined here many times and always loved it. I wasn’t aware it had since changed hands. But having spoken to a few of my old dining friends from Kent they told me it had and they also do not frequent this place anymore. I certainly won’t be rushing back there for sure. Such a shame on such a special night but we made the best of a bad situation..... I would say to future people if your attending events there the back room is ideal if you want a quiet relaxed conversation night. Thankfully we will be dining in our favourite restaurant tonight where service is first and for most and client happiness at the front of everyone’s mind who work and serve there.
