Really lovely place. Fabulous location overlooking the Solway Firth across to Scotland. Ideally located for walkers, tourists and locals alike.
We spent a week at nearby Bowness-on-Solway and became temporary regulars! The delicious (from chips to sticky toffee pudding - even the ice cream) is made on site by their talented chef - with meats sourced from local farms. They have a good selection of local ales, snacks, light bites and hearty meals.
Can heartily recommend the Surf and Turf, the gammon, the sticky toffee pudding, and the chocolate fudge cake.
We will definitely be back - and probably take take advantage of their ensuite B&B rooms!

Hell on earth. We stayed here at the end of walking Hadrian's Wall. Pokey room with view over rubbish-strewn backyard. No food so had to be shipped to next village to eat. Pub was full of teenagers who partied in the screaming oi-oi-oi manner until about midnight when tthe landlord's closest friends - sounded like about 10 of them - repaired to his room directly above ours to carry on partying.

Then someone hit the fire-alarm for a joke. About 20 minutes of internittent piercing siren before someone worked out how to switch it off. No communication in the mean-time. But they just switched the siren off so the alarm continued to peep every minute - I assume the standard fire-alarm needs to be reset notification - all night right outside our door.

Didn't stop the partying though but that was replaced a bit later when I assume most but not all the guests had left by a rythmic pounding with regular interupptions for pee breaks and loo flushes.

A brief interlude of relative peace between about 3 and 5 - except for the minutely fire-alarm peep - was broken when the cockerel started work.

I would not wish this night on my worst enemy it's now clear why the guy asks for a deposit. If you are already booked in I recommend cancelling even if it means losing yourt deposit.

16th Sept 2014 the landlord collected us from our accommodation in the next village and drove us home again later. The drinks were great, the food was fabulous and the desert was to die for. Next time we're in England we will definitely be back for another meal.
