The Jam Tree (Clapham) Description

The Jam Tree, one of London’s favourite gastro pub groups is pleased to announce the launch of The Jam Tree Clapham in September 2012. Situated in a prime position in Clapham Old Town, The Jam Tree Clapham will offer locals and visitors its distinctive blend of British and Commonwealth inspired food, unique cocktails, vibrant interiors and friendly atmosphere.
Following the success of its Chelsea branch, The Jam Tree is now a brand that is instantly recognised and loved by most discerning West Londoners. Owners and founders Yann Roberts and Ashley Letchford are now venturing to South London, to provide Clapham residents with a venue that consistently provides high quality food and drink and great service, all with its trademark energy and colour.
Taking over the former site of Grafton House, the Jam Tree Clapham will have a completely different layout to its predecessor. The front of the venue has been transformed into a light and lively space, framed by floor to ceiling windows on one side, and a long copper topped bar on the other. The venue’s quirky urban vintage style will be represented by its mismatched seating - American style refectory tables, cheerful café chairs and battered Chesterfields. Tom Dixon copper globe lights, hammered tin ceilings, antique grocery shelves and walls adorned with colourful jam jar pop art and mirrors will all add to the bright and warm atmosphere.
Towards the back of the venue will be a concealed door leading to a private room with its own bar and adjoining garden area. Ideal for private functions, the space will also feature a ping pong table and dining area.
The real star of The Jam Tree Clapham will be its food concept and menu, all designed and created by the group’s Executive Chef, James Browne. A South Londoner, James was brought up in Clapham and Brixton, surrounded by Caribbean flavours and exotic ingredients. Once trained as a professional chef, James worked at The Satay Gallery in Brixton, learning the art of spicing dishes and Asian flavouring. He then opened the nearby award-winning Bah Humbug before becoming Head Chef of Clapham’s Rapscallion and Battersea’s Settle Inn. After returning from a stint in America, James was snapped up by the Jam Tree owners to create a menu that featured British Food alongside dishes from former British Colonies.
Following the culinary success of the first two venues, he is finally bringing his unique style back ‘home’. Maintaining the Clapham focus, local butcher Moens and Son will be providing the steaks, South Coast Fish will supply the fish, and Clapham cheesemonger, Hamish Johnston, will create The Jam Tree’s cheese selection.
James Browne’s menu will provide diners with a unique collection of tastes and flavours, featuring a range of delicious seasonal British food alongside colonial favourites from countries as diverse as Malaysia, South Africa, Canada and India.
