The Jolly Fisherman the local pub of Craster Village voted in Britains top 10 prettiest coastal villages in the U. K.
The Jolly Fisherman Description
Welcome to The Jolly Fisherman, Craster.
Combining stunning sea views with delicious home cooking and beautifully kept ales, this is a tastefully refurbished pub with tradition and character at its heart.
We’ve taken great care to retain the charm of this historic pub with stone flagged floors, low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating.
In the winter months, you can relax by one of our roaring open fires and in the summer enjoy the view from one of the most spectacular beer gardens in Northumberland.
Kevin Mulraney C. G. M. C. A – Executive Head Chef – The Jolly Fisherman
Kevin was classically French trained at the Naval & Military Club, Piccadilly, London, serving Royalty & Government Diplomats.
After his apprenticeship he worked in prestigious restaurants around the West End, including Mortons Club, Berkley Square, where he achieved 3 Rosettes and onto Soho’s iconic Lindsay House achieving 3 Rosettes and 1 Michelin Star.
Moving onto his own restaurant “The Yacht Club” at St Katherine’s Dock. Kevin’s food is described as London food in North East portions. Classic dishes with an eclectic twist. After returning to the area with his family he has acted as Consultant Chef to top Outlets in the North East & Yorkshire.
He is looking forward to the challenge of the Award Winning Jolly Fisherman taking its offering to greater heights.

Have you visited Craster before?
Not only is it home to us and the world-famous Craster Kippers Smoke House but has also been the location for the TV series Vera!

A very interesting article that we support whole heartedly. We do everything we can to provide the best service to our customers but there are so many factors that can influence a visit.....

Enjoy magnificent views and miles of sandy bay if you walk from Low Newton to Craster!
This walk sets foot from the fishing village of Craster, passing the mighty ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, and the long sweep of Embleton Sands before reaching Low Newton by the Sea.
A wonderful walk all year round, with dune flowers blooming in spring, paddling (or swimming for the brave) in summer, migrating birds in the autumn, and beautiful light and empty paths in winter!
Heading out in Newcastle over the festive period?
Why not pop into our Sister pub, Rosie’s Bar, Newcastle for a pint or two? 🍺
With many schools breaking up in the next week or so, the Jolly Fisherman is a great place to visit with the whole family - even your four-legged friend!🐕
What a lovely, patient and welcoming team we were met with on Saturday night when there was a powercut. The whole pub was lit by candles and the atmosphere was just perfect. A seafood platter( there being no electricity) was delicious and the beer was plentiful. Well done the two young male staff who were very courteous and apologetic to all who had booked to eat. Also well done the patient and accommodating customers who all just got on with it ....ourselves included.
We will most certainly go back to sample hot cooked food.
We loved it here, walked in on passing as my son spotted crab sandwiches. Everything we ordered was lovely and the view of the sea and castle were an added bonus. Lovely friendly staff too. We will definitely be back when we are up in the area again
We came here after a number of recommendations. We weren't disappointed! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the fish dishes were incredible. A rare special treat with stunning sea views.
We came for lunch today and heard someone complaining. It was clear you were really busy and the staff were working so hard to get everyone served. We would just like to say we had an absolutely delicious lunch as we always do when we visit. Today was surprisingly warm, very busy and your staff were excellent. Yes, you probably wanted glasses cleared quicker and tables emptied sooner, but you know what? You are an excellent pub that welcomes dogs and walkers and sometimes people just need to chill out and perhaps even clear a few glasses. You apologised, she was rude. Well done, we had a lovely lunch and we'll come again next time we're up this way. Claire & Martin
Very well run, beautifully located pub. Nudging well into the pub restaurant space, but the seafood platter was excellent and the ales well kept. Really very good.
The food there was absolutely delicious, especially the crab soup and the kipper pate. We had a lovely waiter who was great with the children and the decor was great too.
Me and my wife paid our first visit to northumberland this week and I have to say your pub was out standing. It’s made a lasting impression on us. Food was delicious, service was faultless and the views was spectacular. special thank you to the young server Clayton who couldnt do enough for us. Looking forward to our next visit to northumberland in the near future. Thank you, Richard and sue
It was amazing! Really enjoyed the food!! All three courses! Soup/Lobster sandwich (can’t remember the name), Mixed platter/Fish pie and burgers for main, sticky toffee/brownie and lemon posset for pud. All four of us really enjoyed it! Thank you
Have visited the pub a few times normally by Jetski from blyth. Fantastic food beer and views. You can also keep an eye on your ski from the beer garden.
Had a family meal out for Father’s Day. The menu was lovely, staff very friendly and great service. The food was delicious and well presented...can highly recommend the kipper scotch egg, seafood platter, fishcakes and beef roast....we were lucky enough to be seated next to the window where we spotted a pod of dolphins swimming a mile or so offshore. We will definitely be back. Thanks guys!
Food, service wonderful and everyone friendly - our dog Teddy loved the garden, views terrific. Highly recommend this dog friendly pub that serves excellent food and beer
Excellent is the only word to describe our lunch yesterday, we travel there just to have the fish platter
Excellent food and friendly, efficient service. Lobster less than an hour from sea to plate! Great atmosphere, fabulous sea views, thank you.
Been here 3 times now and every time I am blown away! Best crab soup... or any soup that I've ever had in life! Seafood so fresh and roast dinners equally astounding with the tastiest side dishes absolutely everything is of the highest standard and the presentation is always lovely. The staff are always so attentive and the views of the sea are unrivalled!
we had great food , were made to feel very welcome and service was prompt and cheerful despite the staff being very busy , beautiful views and appreciated being able to bring the kids and the dog!
Has always been a favourite of ours but it seems to have lost the plot this year. The staff are stressed and not their usual jolly selves. The bar was inaccessible due to the amount of dirty glasses stacked up due to lack of staff. The lovely lady who has worked there years looked exhausted trying to man the bar. Outside in the garden we liked to sit in the tables were filled with piles of dirty pots with no one to clear them up. Customers were actually having to clear their own tables to be able to sit and enjoy the view. What is with the cardboard take away boxes ? spoilt by trying to be too trendy. What has happened to this lovely pub. ??
Amazing crab sandwiches. I was totally bemused that they didn't have a single vegetarian item on the menu, as my partner had to sit and watch us eat and get food elsewhere.
Was at jolly fisherman yesterday.Service was real slow ordering drinks x2 shandy’s and then when ordering food I ordered the cheese burger and my partner the crab sandwich with chips . My portion of chips was tiny in a little basket but looked good and the crab sandwich had numerous pieces off crab shell in it ! Over priced average food £31 in total
Probably the only pub-restaurant that I have waited 20 mins to place my order ........ then 2 mins for it to arrive. That should tell you something about the quality of the service and the food. Appearances can be very deceptive!
