About The Kettle Sings

Much loved tea room boasting a wide variety of cakes, loose leaf speciality teas & tea room lunches

The Kettle Sings Description

In 1897, when Queen Victoria celebrated 60 years on the throne and in her honour the cart road that led along the side of the hills from the Wyche Cutting was surfaced, extended to the British Camp and given the name Jubilee Drive.

Ten years after that scenic route with its stunning views was created, a small workman’s cottage was built about 100 yards downhill off the roadway on an area called Gardener’s Common, roughly midway between the Wyche and the Camp.

Twenty years later, in 1928, the little property was enlarged into a fashionable English tea room by a lady called Miss Millle Stephens, who named it the Kettle Sings. The cafe was an immediate hit with visitors to the hills and walkers, who would take tea and cake and simply enjoy the panorama stretching out before them. It is not surprising that Elgar, who is believed to have liked to take afternoon tea at the cafe, used these views for inspiration.

Good morning all,
We are (again!) under snow. The owner has made the decision for us to be CLOSED today due to the road conditions and the freezing temperatures.
We are very sorry that yet again the weather has driven us out of the Kettle.

What a brilliant place and the 2 young girls in charge and serving, were brilliant! Bubbly, helpful, charming and polite!!!

I don't want to say too much more or next time we want to visit, we won't get a seat!

User

We had an amazing afternoon tea ( a treat for Mothers' Day) this afternoon, the view was to die for and the sandwiches and cakes were delicious, the service was great too

It was way too much though, so we had what was left boxed up to take home! Yum!!

User

Really lovely lunch here today with my family. Food was very good, the staff were friendly and helpful and what an amazing view to admire at the same time. We will be back so I can work my way through the cake menu

User

Popped there today. Lovely tables outside and in. They’re Wiltshire ham and cheese sandwich was wonderful. Good choice of cold drinks on such a hot day too! And a magical view!!!!!

User

Orchard Side Bed & Breakfast will happily recommend The Kettle Sings to their guests who visit to walk the Malvern Hills. The Cream Tea was yummy today!

User

My favourite cafe. Stunning views, great food, friendly service. And they love my dog! :-)

User

Incredible through out.

The view, the service, the food, the tea, all divine!!!! Love it up there.

User

Great Chocolate Milkshake and awesome Death By Chocolate Cake.

Good job I'm not diabetic as it's a lot of sugar.

Lovely place, great cheerful friendly staff and a lovely location near the Malvern Hills.

A great little place for a bite to eat or drink.

User

Another wonderful breakfast, served by lovely staff, with fantastic views. Can’t beat this place when you’re in or around Malvern.

User

The views really sell this medium size cafe. There is limited car parking, but others nearby at cost. It is clean, bright and the service and food are all good, if a little pricey. Obviously popular locally.

User

Food very good and tasty but portions at least for the pie was way to large for older folk. Shame there isn't a' light bite ' or senior citizen type menu where smaller portions can be purchased as other establishments do these days. Staff as always attentive and cheerful.

User

Had a wonderful day which was highlighted by the Service and food at the Kettle Sings.

Had a lovely cream tea and a cold glass of Cider, wonderful. Wonderfull view, wonderfull

Day and altogether a day to remember. the Mothersdale family.xx

User

What a lovely place my dad's ashes r on the hills and we went to pay our respects today to him we love going in and having a meal staff are so nice to us the milk shakes are gorgeous made with ice cream and fresh cream would recommend people go

User

Stopped in for breakfast. The location is fantastic, the food however was average at best. I had eggs Benidict and my companion had eggs florentine. The ham on my benidict wa grey and the hollandaise sauce was unbeatable. For 2 of us with a couple of coffees and a hot chocolate was over £21. I will go again for coffee and cake but not for breakfast.

User

Beautiful view, but unnecessarily rude staff. Wouldn’t recommend or go again. There is no need for such rudeness!

User

Well I can't comment on the food today. This has long been a favourite place as we have lived in Malvern for 30 years. We have been unable to visit for a couple of years, today we walked there in the warm sunshine for an early lunch. We thought it would be nice to sit on the terrace but we were told quite abruptly that there was no food served there, only drinks and cakes. So we went inside and found a table by the window. The windows were closed, it was very hot and stuffy so I said to the waitress that we found it very warm and was about to ask if we could maybe open a window - she turned and walked off with no comment. So I said ok, maybe we will go somewhere else for lunch. No response, just a retreating back.

2 questions - Why is it not possible to eat out on the terrace? and are you so busy and complacent that you can afford to be dismissive of prospective customers?

User

Unfriendly and rude service - this was from the manager

After being recommended to this place by family and making the effort to go out of our route we were so disappointed will not be returning - a smile takes nothing to offer guests - very poor

User

Got turned away as a group of cyclists today. Only 3 cars parked outside so couldn’t see their logic in turning away business. Signs outside specifically saying no large groups which the member of staff said was 6+. Hardly large when the place was empty. Have been twice before with no issues. Silly to turn away business and won’t be returning again. Have now lost me as a customer and all our cycling friends.

User

A group of us were turned away today because there were to many of us? Great way to do business turning down a dozen people with cash in theirs pockets.

We went to another cafe in Malvern and they couldn't do enough for us, that's how you win customers!
