Went for Sunday dinner and quiz. The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were just right. On top of that the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere and decor of th pub were lovely. We had a brilliant time, I can’t rate this place highly enough!

User

We eat out a lot and always looking for new places locally. This is a hidden little gem. We have been twice now with in laws and children and thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and the service on both occasions. The hotpot was absolutely stunning. It’s rare for me to give 5 stars but if I could, then I would give it 6 👍

Visited your lovely place yesterday for a wake. Your catering was absolutely brilliant, even managing delicious food for all types of diet. Loved your great customer service, checking that we were all ok and that the food and drink was ok for us. Excellent.

Beer awesome, kept in great fettle, that oatmeal stout was my favourite Fabulous place, you've done a wonderful job on the refurb as well.

I would definitely recommend you to anyone.

Thanks for such fabulous service and making us all feel relaxed on what was a very sad day.

Keep up the good work - you were awesome!

Thanks

So refreshing to visit a pub and have great friendly service, superb food, quality wine and beer, toilets that are spotless and an amazing venue. Love the traditional pub style Logs burning in the fire, games available to play and a chance to chat without loud TVs, music etc.

Keep up the great work Matt and your team.

User

Simply fantastic, so good in fact that our intended two hour stay extended into eight hours. Superb everything and very, very friendly! Will be back!

User

SUPER polite and welcoming staff every time. They can't do enough for you. Great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy a quiet and relaxing meal/ drink in the countryside. Thanks guys !!

User

Popped in today for impromptu lunch. Fabulous friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere (we had 3 dogs!) And tremendous food. Aside from knowing we shall return, am very happy to recommend it to anyone who appreciates freshly cooked food. Five stars all the way.

User

Outstanding. First time visiting this afternoon since it's been taken over, I came with the family for a Sunday roast dinner and from start to finish everything was amazing. From the enthusiastic, friendly, fast and efficient staff who couldn't do enough for us and made our visit just really enjoyable to the absolutely gorgeous roast dinner, the nicest I've had in a long time actually! The chef, Matt, even came out to greet us after we all expressed to the waiting on staff how impressed we were. He told us a little about his background and how he took over The Kicking Donkey 9 months ago and was just a really lovely guy. We just decided to try The kicking Donkey for a change and we are so glad we did. We have already booked in again for next week. Thank you so much to all of you, excellent service and food and wine :)

User

Matt and all of the team made my daughter's 18th Birthday meal with all of he family a truly memorable occasion. Thank you for the fabulous food, wonderful service and warm welcome. (sorry the review is late)

User

Just been with my husband and son for Fathers Day Sunday Lunch - the customer service in here really is second to none. Every single member of staff made so much effort. Food also great. Nothing was too much trouble at all... if we are back in the area we will be back! Thanks Team!

User

Just been for the first time and will definitely be going back again. The food and service was fab. Dad asked for fish and chips but when it arrived his comment was he asked for a fish not a whale. The portion size was big and full of flavour. Good selection of gin that makes me happy. See you again xx

User

Had a fantastic meal here last night, nothing was too much trouble - one of our group has significant dietary requirements but Matt and his team were only too happy to accommodate and work something out which made what is usually a very stressful process very easy. The food was delicious, the whole atmosphere felt welcoming (real fires are a total bonus!), nothing felt rushed, and Matt and his team really went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect. I would definitely recommend, and will certainly be returning again soon.

User

Great place and lovely atmosphere - hot pot was so good and the chocolate torte, washed down with a nice pint...next on the cards is the st paddys cocktail

User

Dined here last night and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks on offer.

The service was excellent and the food was first class.

Will certainly be making a return visit very soon. Highly recommend

User

Always a lovely welcome from Matt and all of the staff, not tried the food yet but that is on my list.

User

Absolutely outstanding meal, really welcoming and friendly staff and a lovely environment. What more could you ask for??!!

we haven't been to this place for quite a few years so thought we'd give it a go now that it has been refurbished. When we arrived we were a couple of minutes behind a large party so the owner explained we could be a while so the kitchen could cope, that wasn't an issue so we were shown to a table.

We ordered a drink and read the menu, as expected we had to wait a while for our order to be taken but we were given an appetizer to try, hummus with toast and it was delicious.

We had black pudding fritters and a goats cheese and tomato tart to start and both dishes were delicious. As it was Sunday it was a Sunday lunch each for our main and although it didn't look like a huge amount it was enough as we had already had a starter, may still have been wanting more if it was the only course. We didn't have a dessert so can't comment but they did look good.

A pleasant way to while away a few hours as there was no hurry at all and we would go again, someone near us had fish and chips and that looked really good so maybe something else to try.

User

We hadn’t been here for a couple of years and we were first of all impressed with the new decor. Matt the new owner introduced himself and presented us with the menu which had changed considerably since our last visit. I ordered the pate and the lamb hotpot whilst my wife went for the Lancashire cheese and onion tart. We were asked what we wanted to drink and as I don’t drink alcohol I asked what non alcoholic beers they had. I was offered a Becks Blue but also they had a non alcoholic gin so I went for that with tonic. I was pleasantly surprised. Matt asked if I would like to try a different brand “on the house” which I did. All very acceptable and pleasant so far

The food came a short while later and we weren’t disappointed. It was very tasty and wholesome - the prices are reasonable too.

All in all I would recommend checking this venue out you will be pleased that you did.

User
