About The Kings Repose

The History

The Kings Repose Description

In 1651 King Charles II was making his escape northwards from Worcester following his rout at the hands of Cromwell's Parliamentarian Troops. After a brief respite at Bentley Hall he arrived at Moseley Old Hall where he stayed overnight. Fearing imminent capture, Charles and his bodyguards of about 20 or so loyal followers left Moseley Old Hall. It is believed they gathered near this barn, where they divided into groups of two or three and under heavy disguise fled to Liverpool to secure a boat to France. This was not successful and Charles eventually fled to Brighton from where he then reached the safety of France.
