Just trying to gauge interest. Would anyone be interested in an It’s a Knockout challenge next summer? It would be teams of 10 and could be families or local businesses? Please let me know if it’s something you would be interested in.

After an outstanding morning at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens the Bride was keen for a rare treat of fish and chips. The deal was we'd stop at the first pub on the way home for a late lunch. And we got lucky with the Knoxbridge. The guy behind the bar was warm and welcoming and turned out to be Tony. He worked out from our accents that we weren't locals so when I asked him where we were he outdid smart arse me with the reply "Kent". I replied "we're not that lost, what bloody town is it?"

If anyone was designed to be a publican it's him. He and his partner have just celebrated their first anniversary after the pub had lay dormantly, sadly closed for 7 years. Wow, I've been down similar journeys in Australia and I instantly knew how much effort they've put in. Particularly in the UK with the rampant pub closures. With their dedication and your support you'll be very lucky if it's your local.

And the fish and chips? They were so good that they continued the theme of an outstanding Sissinghurst day. They have a French chef who has committed to the place and he put a pretty spectacular spin on the tired old standard.

Bad Apple Cider on tap scored massive thumbs up from the Bride.

We'll be back.

We only went for a drink, but the atmosphere was good, the landlord very friendly and it felt like a proper, old fashioned pub, which is what we went for!

User

We had a lovely time...your food is melt in the mouth and I will be back as good food to me is everything...hope you dont mind the comment but sometimes too tentative as in just literally finished each service comes across as wanting you too hurry up and we had the comment concious of a big table near us...keep that a secret...treat everyone as special xxx

User

Had a lovely free lunch today as I won the competition to have a free lunch for two food was lovely, atmosphere is good down there definitely will be going back thanks again for picking me

User

I once went to book a table for myself & my wife being as we only live up the road in staplehurst, it was the middle of the day & only one customer sitting at the bar drinking, no staff were around until a lady appeared on her phone, I waited patiently for her conversation to end, when it did she looked at me & then disappear out back!!!i could half understand if the place was full of paying customers but it was empty so no excuse to ignore me...I will find another county pub one with staff that have their priorities right!!
