Writer and theatre-maker John Osborne visits Barnsley, with a double bill of two unique storytelling shows.
John Peel's Shed - In 2002, John Osborne won a competition on John Peel’s Radio 1 show. His prize was a box of records that took eight years to listen to. What he found was a delightful mix of instant intimacy, as callers shared their significant life moments in anecdotes, and the quirky, as illustrated by a gem of a Steve Wright factoid: ‘St John's Wood is the only tub...e station that doesn't share any letters with the word mackerel’. He discovered how exposure to a radio station for any amount of time, even one you're not initially fond of, gets under your skin. He had a talismanic moment of hearing the Smiths on Peel's show and it relating to his life ("You're allowed to be grown- up and shy").
This show features a selection of records previously owned by the late John Peel. Many are very rare recordings by obscure and now defunct bands, and this is a unique opportunity for any Peel fans. This is an ode to radio, those records and anyone who’s ever sought solace in wireless.
Circled in the Radio Times - A new storytelling show about finding a pile of old copies of the Radio Times and piecing together someone's life by the programmes they had circled. Osborne is a master at creating captivating theatre out of quirky simple stories that make heroes out of everyday people and heighten normal tales into pure folklore.
John Osborne writes scripts, stories and theatre shows. His first television series After Hours was broadcast by Sky 1, directed by Craig Cash (The Royle Family) and starring Jaime Winstone, Ardal O’Hanlon and BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell.
This unique double bill will be performed on Thursday 21 March 2019 at 7.30 p.m. - tickets are £10.00 each.

Wakefield Little Theatre bring great drama to The Lamproom Theatre....
'Beauty and The Beast' is brought to The Lamproom stage by Wakefield Little Theatre, in a dramatic adaptation of a well-loved fairy-tale. It's a tale as old as time, and this version was written especially for the stage - please note that it is NOT a musical and does NOT have any Disney songs - it's just great entertainment for all the family!
“Beauty and the Beast” is one of the world’s best-loved fairy t...ales. First published in 1740, it has been adapted many times for television, cinema and the stage. This adaptation was premièred by Wakefield Little Theatre at The Theatre Royal, Wakefield in 1995. So now the time has come for the Beast to be woken from his slumbers!
“Things are not always what they seem. Never judge just by appearances. Your eyes can deceive you. Use your heart…
Look beneath the surface for the beauty inside, the beauty that lasts, because if you don't, you will never be happy.”
Wonderful entertainment for all the family! Spectacular, magical, funny and a little bit scary too!

‘WHO’S NEXT’ AT THE LAMPRROM THEATRE IS CANCELLED
We have just been advised by ‘Who’s Next’ that the inclement weather has forced them to cancel their show at The Lamproom Theatre on Saturday 2 February 2019.
Whilst the weather in Barnsley would not have posed a problem, the band members were travelling from London, Wiltshire and The Rhondda Valley, and the continuing snow in The West Country and Wales means that they are unable to make the journey north to Barnsley.
... We are very sorry to have to cancel this show, particularly as the original show in June 2018 was cancelled at the last minute because of transport problems.
We will be contacting everyone who has booked tickets to arrange a full refund and once again apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Liz Grand returns to The Lamproom with 'The Second Best Bed'....
Following her performance as Agatha Christie in 'Where is Mrs Christie?', Liz Grand returns to The Lamproom with a one-woman show about Anne Hathaway, the wife of The Bard of Stratford Upon Avon, William Shakespeare - if you enjoyed 'Where is Mrs Christie? you won't want to miss this play by the same production team.....
When Shakespeare died, he famously left his wife Anne only one thing – the second best bed. ...This superb one-woman play, full of both humour and pathos, has received great critical acclaim since its premier at the Swan Theatre Worcester in 2012. Liz Grand stars as Anne Hathaway on the night of Shakespeare’s funeral. The wake has finished, the mourners have all gone home, leaving Anne to remember her life with the most talented playwright the world has ever seen. Or was he? Did he write the plays? His widow would know if anybody did. Wouldn’t she?
“Lifts the lid on a Tudor can of worms……..a showcase for the towering acting skills of Liz Grand.” Worcester News

I went to see Cinderella with 4 generations of my family including my 5 years old grandson, 3 years old nephew and my 73 years old Father in law. We all had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the show. We had thought about going to a bigger theatre to watch a different pantomime but my grandson wouldn't hear of it and asked if we could book the lamproom again every year. I'm 100% sure we will.
