The Lazy Otter Pub & Restaurant Description

Welcome to the Lazy Otter. Enjoy fine food & wine or traditional beers, all in a setting that is truly conducive to a relaxing atmosphere. Nestled halfway between Cambridge & Ely, this riverside restaurant & bar is the only place to stop.

Open for breakfast from 7am to midday, then serving main meals from midday until 9pm, Monday to Friday.
Saturdays we are open for breakfast at 9am to midday, then serving main meals from midday until 9pm.
Sundays we serve food from midday until 9pm

Sundays are home to our superb Lazy Otter roast dinner! Every week we have half a roast chicken, beef, pork & crackling and either a lamb shank or lamb shoulder. It is advisable to book early to get a table for lunch.

And for a tasty treat, why not save room for our delicious home-made desserts from the cabinet. Look out for my personal Fave's. . . banoffee pie, lemon lush and jaffa cake gateau. Or, if you're after a hot sweet, then the homemade sticky toffee pudding and apple & cherry crumble always go down a storm.

Of course, you could just pop along in the afternoon for a slice of cake and a latte. . . .

User

We had a great time. Sunday roast very good tasty, dessert very good too. Service friendly and attentive despite the busy lunch. Good atmosphere birthday singing and live music.

User

We decided to pop in as we were on holiday near by.

The bar was warm and welcoming, even for dog owners like ourselves.

I noticed that they had a lovely single malt on sale at the bar- Jura , one I don't often see. Good selection of beers and wines. The locally supplied fish is a speciality and the chips were lovely chuncky proper English chips !

Definitely looking to come back here in the summer !

User

We come up from the Isle of Wight fairly often to stay and love the pub. Food is excellent and the staff are welcoming and efficient. Sunday roasts are beautiful , but my favourite thing is the pizza, and coming from a Chicago girl, that is high praise indeed. Also, they are super dog friendly

User

Visited The Animal Experience place down the road, came across this by accident as Sat nav took us too far. Decided to see if they had a table available, there were 8 of us and got seated altogether with a view across the river. Food was delicious, all came out at the same time, lovely and hot. Staff were lovely. We actually live about an hour and a half but gonna return next summer and combine a meal with a walk along the river

User

User

So yesturday me and my man decided to have a breakfast date ... ended up at lazy otter and well we wernt disappointed

We sat outside in. The sun by the boats ..

I my partner ordered the

Otter Full Monty £8.25

Two rashers of back bacon, two Lincolnshire sausages, two hash browns,

two fried eggs, baked beans, giant field mushroom, grilled tomato and a round or thick

white or granary toast with butter and preserves

And I ordered

Otter Full American £7.95

Two sweet pancakes served with a jug of maple syrup, two hash browns, two rashers of

bacon, two Lincolnshire sausages, two fried eggs sunny side up

Otter Mini American £6.00

Two pancakes served with a jug of maple syrup, one hash brown, one rasher of

bacon, two Lincolnshire sausages, two fried eggs sunny side up

Both definitely worth the money....

My only criticism was the bacon was way to greasy but i eate it ..

Both plates wore empty witch is a good sighn right and we will be back for more ..

User

Lovely location and wonderful safe play area for children. Chips to die for and portion sizes good. Disappointed in my fish medley as it looked and tasted like it wasn’t freshly prepared, just a bit from the freezer. Deserts were lush and staff very polite and helpful

Can be difficult to find at night as no illuminated sign, every time we go I miss the turning (coming from Stretham roundabout, so left turning) and have to take next one and follow old A10 back half a mile, very potholed!

Tried the New 2018 menu on Saturday, lots of old favourites on it, ribs seemed better - less fatty - , Caesar salad with chicken lovely, sauce in separate jug so could add as needed. Lasagne clearly home made, mixed ranch plater as a main just enough for one.

If you don't have room for pud they will pack you one up for later, but whilst mains are reasonably priced puds at over £6, though lovely, are a bit over priced. Though one pud will do two, but not quite a portion if you do that. Smaller slices at a lower price would probably give more folks taking up the pudding option.

A large group had sat down just before us, so slight delay in getting our mains, but the waitress kept us fully up to date with progress.

Our only niggle was how chilly it got, one of our party had to put their coat on even though we were sitting by a radiator.

User

We have been several times and had excellent experience there. Unfortunately we never had the same experience sunday when we went for lunch. We were sat right next to the emergency exit doors leading into the rear garden. People were in and out it was cold and windy and we were getting very cold. We asked to move tables and we're told there were no more available. We asked if they could put a sign on the door to ask people to go out of the front door. When we had finished our meal they did this after another table complained about the cold wind. It was an A4 sheet written in biro and people ignored it. It won't stop me.going again as food was lovely but it would be good if the staff could take the customers comments seriously.

User

We had lunch there last Sunday, it was recommended by a place we had just visited. The food was a bit expensive & my wife had a white wine with lemonade & we were charged £9 which is ridiculous. My daughter & granddaughter had the roast pork which was 50% fat & very little meat. They liked the roast potatoes & yorkshire. My wife enjoyed her meal which was baguette with bacon & brie but would have preferred it cold. My meal of pulled pork was ok. Service was a little slow but not too bad. Would not eat there again

User

Food (roast )was lovely especially the beef but could have been a bit warmer, the older lady in the bar was rude when she spoke to us and embarrassingly rude to a young guy who seemed to be helping them out. I would suggest keeping her back office! Or sending her on a customer service course.

User

Sunday dinner portions were very small, one persons fish from the fish and chips was massively over cooked. Service was slow although the two waiters did the best they could. Two mains missing things that were listed on the menu, desserts served very slowly so several people had finished by the time the last dessert came out.

Nice location, average food but not great service.

User

When it came to order we asked if we could do seperate bills for the different family's as it would be easy at the end. Waitress pulled an aggressive face saying it would mean the food would not come out together. Ordered food and 2 steak and kidney puddings were requested with chips and not mashed potato. Order taken and wait for the food. First 2 meals to arrive were puddings with mashed potato. When the waitress was told they should be chips she thrust the plates on the table and said the chef would not do the puddings with chips?

She then arrived with the wrong chicken meal? Took it away to replace. The rest of the party had to wait for their meals although she said they would come together if we ordered on one bill. The replacement chicken arrived again thrust on the table with a comment "alright" not a sorry about this?

This waitress as far as the party of 23 was the most rudest person we have ever come across.

What should have been a celebration was a total disappointment in as much as we would not darken your doors again as obviously we were not welcome.

User

The customer service was lacking. The food was cold whilst waiting for cutlery and condiments won’t go there again .

User

Roasted red peppers, fine green beans, carrots, sundried tomatoes, celery,

beetroot, toasted mixed seeds and mixed leaves turned out to be diced carrots, beetroot and red pepper on a bed of ice berg. Very disappointing but not as disappointing as the reactions from the staff.

User

Overpriced for very below average food. Ingredients and portions not of the quality expected for the prices charged. Lovely pub and location on the river but we won’t be eating here again
