One of many truly uplifting emails we have had in recent days. Our wonderful patrons, how we miss you!
I write as just one of many I am sure you have nothing but one hundred per cent admiration for your resilience and optimism at such a difficult time.
If I were a tad younger I would I hope have wanted to help out while the theatre is dark. Alas at my age I am deemed 'vulnerable' so I with regret I cannot.
... It is so impressive that you and your magnificent team are thinking and acting so positively.
As you know I am a keen fan of the works of Matthew Bourne. I managed to catch his 'The Red Shoes' for the fourth time eight days ago. It turned out to be the company's last performance (or so it would seem) for perhaps a long time.
This thing is devastating for the whole theatre business. Of course many thousands in other walks of life also face a very uncertain future, but I cannot help but have particular concern for the Thorndike.
Thank you so much for all you are doing.
With every best wish.

NEWSLETTER!
Normal opening hours: Tues to Sat 10am to 10pm (Nothing is normal at the moment!) Leave a message and we will get back to you when as possible.
... Dear theatre lover,
How are you all doing? Life is so unreal, and so unnatural at the moment. Most of us are now home, trying to do what we can from there and plan to open just as soon as it is safe to do so.
We miss seeing you all; the daily chats on the box office, the discussions on the merits of various films, and whether it is worth booking early to see a paricular show. It is a stark reminder of how important it is, and how valuable, to have a place to congregate and drink up the merits of creativity generally.
SHOWS YOU MAY HAVE BOOKED FOR
As we have mentioned previously, we are hoping to postpone most of what we had scheduled, although this is impossible to promise without a reopening date. We will keep you posted! As opening the box office is not by any means deemed essential work and cannot be done from home, we cannot transfer tickets or issue refunds at the current time. Please be assured we will do so as soon as we are able to.
ENJOY THEATRE FROM HOME
Even though we are closed, there are a number of places online where you can enjoy past shows you may have missed or wished you had been able to see. Google the titles below for shows (or exhibitions) you may be interested in, or for further information on what is on offer, and when you can watch it.

LOCAL ADVICE AND HELP GENERALLY REGARDING COVID-19
Should you need any assistance with anything at this time, the Leatherhead Rotary Club has put together a very useful list of local organisations able to offer practical assiance, and businesses that are still open for food deliveries, and so on.
If there is anything else you feel we can help with, please reply to this email and let us know. We will get back to you when we can.
In the meantime, stay safe. With every day that passes, we look forward to seeing you again more.
With best wishes,

๐Ÿงก Today was World Theatre Day, and as like most theatres around the globe, we are currently closed, we will celebrate the fact that we are still here. And we will be back!
We are working not behind the scenes, but behind the doors of our individual homes, to make sure we have plenty to offer you when we do reopen.
Stay safe everyone, which currently means, stay home! ๐Ÿงก

Following the Prime Minister's most recent announcement, at 8.30pm on Monday 23rd March, the theatre office will be closed until further notice.
We had hoped to contact you this coming week regarding postponed shows, films and screenings, but this will now not be possible for the time being.
As soon as we are in a position to do so, we will be in touch. All matters relating to the box office have to be done from the theatre. As this work is non-essential, we will not now be a...ble do it until we feel it appropriate to reopen the main office.
Our health, your health, and that of the nation at large, is what is important right now. Please be assured that, as and when we can, we will be in touch.
With best wishes,
The Leatherhead Theatre Team

Our newsletter, because communication in whatever form we can, must go on. ๐Ÿงก
Dear theatre lover
While we held out as long as possible, we took the decision on Friday evening March 20th, following the Prime Minister's announcement that all theatres and similar venues must close, to do so that night at 8pm. We were naturally all very sad to have to close the doors, but in the light of developments even over the weekend, it is clear that it is part of the only way to slow down ...the spread of this virus.
If you have tickets booked for anything you were expecting to see here in the next few weeks, please wait for us to contact you by email or phone, which we will do as soon as we possibly can. There are a great number of you to get in touch with, and in the circumsances is will take time. Thanks for your patience. We do hope that much of our programme will be postponed rather than cancelled, and will update you in this regard once we know.
We are aware that our telephone answer machine message needs updating, and will tend to this next week. In the meantime if you do need to leave a message, please do so, and we will return the call.
The decision to close our doors will be reviewed every four weeks, and we will be guided by government advice. Naturally we hope to re-open at the earliest opportunity and will be sure to tell you via this newsletter as well as the website and social media sites.
In the time we now find ourselves with, we will be doing what we can to improve and upgrade the front of house area and do some other general maintenance work. Some of us were in on Saturday (keeping at a safe distance from one another) to clear out the box office, tidy the stage area and spruce up the coffee shop a bit. Expect an improved-looking theatre, once we are able to reopen.
This is a challenging time for all theatres, and of course many businesses and individuals, yet we remain optimistic. You have been wonderful patrons - many of you donating ticket money for films and screenings we can, for the time being, not show. Thank-you so much! Although these were all relatively small amounts, added together they help massively and we are very grateful.
We hope you are keeping well, in these peculiar times. Do ask if you have questions, and we will try to send out regular updates.
With warmest wishes,
Jennai and The Leatherhead Theatre team x

First day of coronavirus closure, and what did we do?
We turned up, turned on the music (Cheesy Classics), and got to work!
The box office has had a good old clear out, the stage has been cleared and cleaned, and the coffee shop has been given a spruce up.
... Expect a fresh and revitalised theatre once we can reopen!
We hope you are all keeping well, and do keep popping back for updates. Social media never closes! ๐Ÿ™‚

COVID-19 UPDATE
Dear theatre lovers,
While we held out as long as possible, in light of all the businesses now closing in the interest of containing the spread of the coronavirus and following the Prime Minister's most recent announcement, we have taken the decision today to close from 8pm this evening, Friday March 20th.
... If you have tickets booked for anything you were expecting to see here in the next few weeks, please wait for us to contact you by email or phone, which we will do as soon as we possibly can.
We will review this decision every four weeks, and will of course hope to re-open at the earliest opportunity. We will update the website and social media sites when we have a re-opening date. For more frequent updates you can always join our mailing list. Scroll to the bottom of our Contact page to sign up.
If you have questions about anything else, please email: admin@the-theatre.org and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Many thanks for your kind comments, and donations, in recent days. We truly hope to throw open the doors and welcome you all back in very soon.
Best wishes and stay safe,
The Leatherhead Theatre team

We have had a few emails like this for shows we have had to postpone. What wonderful patrons we have! ๐Ÿ’•
'Thanks to you, I have had such a lot of pleasure from the opera screenings. It's not much, but the theatre is welcome to keep the money for my Fidelio ticket as a contribution to your ongoing operations.'
