Have you tried our new Owlers IPA yet?
This beer is inspired by Dorset's early smugglers, or "owlers" - it's a new take on US West Coast style beers with a beautiful hop character, bursting with citrus hop aromas and delivering a complex hop-charged taste.
Is there truly anything more British than crispy batter, fluffy chips and tangy tartare? We don't think so!

Leaping Legend is back on cask from to February - March. This golden brew balances the citrus character of American Amarillo hops with the more traditional British Fuggles hops for a refreshing and punchy beer. Available while stocks last! #BadgerAles
Looking for a job?? Are you bubbly, good humoured and hard working?? If so we want to hear from you... The Lighter Inn, Topsham.
Yesterday we were in topsham and piped in with our 2 kids, 19month and 6 month old, we got a warm welcome, we sat in cozy chairs, which was great for giving a bottle to my little one, really enjoyed our visit and would definitely go back.
So impressed - they went the extra mile!
Went for a friend's birthday. Phoned ahead to mention it was her birthday and wondered if they could sort a special dessert with candles 🎂it was a fantastic surprise - 6 mini shot glass puddings with candles in! What's more, the very kind lady serving us also brought the birthday girl a glass of prosecco. When we came to pay, incredibly this was all on the house. Re the food - we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a half pint of prawns with toasted baguette alongside a main, one of the specials that day, which was sizzling sardines on a bed of sweet and sour veg on a hot plate. Absolutely delicious and pretty healthy! All in all the best time we've been, and as a local I'll be back many more times - especially due to the wonderful service and thoughtful staff, sorry didn't get your name!
Harrison the re-homed Guide Dog loves it. We usually stop for drinks. Coffee is excellent. Haven't eaten here for some months.
Good service, very helpful,, steak pie was fantastic!!
Fantastic food and a perfect atmosphere with glorious views across the river. What makes this pub so fabulous are the bright, warm, happy faces of Zoe and Charlene. Both ladies are brilliant at what they do and make us feel so welcome at The Lighter. Will definitely be back if they’re working
Fabulous food!! Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient service! Cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Buzzing and busy for a Tuesday night in September! Great choice of Badger beer and delicious wine - try the South African Chenin Blanc - yum!! Really great value!! A two course meal for two with 2 drinks each was £50!! All in all a fab find! What's not to like, oh and lovely location right on the water!!
Excellent , good selection of beers , dog friendly , food was good value , friendly staff who informed us how long the food would take as it was a busy lunchtime
Really good meal, excellent service, will definitely eat here again. Loving Topsham as always.
Pub was great - food was great but waited an hour for it to arrive
Plenty of tables outside, so, I'd guess it gets really crowded on Sundays and during the summer season. Inside looked good, though would fill up quickly. I only had a beer, which was not my first choice, as they had run out. Service was swift and friendly. The menu looked on the pricey side, though I spotted a burger for around £11. All in all a good place to sit outside and look out at the river.
On holiday in Topsham and went in for evening meal . As we entered there were no instructions as to whether we had to wait to be seated or order food ourselves at the bar . I stopped a young lady who told us to seat at the tables facing the quay . We took a seat and waited and waited and waited to be brought a menu in the end I went and got one myself . Once we had made our decision again we waited and waited to have our order taken . I called the same young lady and she ignored me and went outside to clear tables so again we had to wait till she came back in and I literally had to go right up to her to get any response. Bearing in mind the place was not overally busy and she had looked our way many times . When we got our order the food was excellent , full of flavour, hot and a decent portion . Let down terribly by the waiting staff
Nice pub with good food
I went last Friday and had a meal with the wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The meal was great but not enough staff service was a bit long staff were so busy my coffee was forgot, I will go back as it was a lovely afternoon
Watched everyone else eat what looked like lovely food. My prawns were luke warm and raw so I sent them back with the chips I had ordered as a side. I asked for a refund and was given one very unceremoniously and only for the prawns! Missed a proper customer service moment there guys.
Food not bad had a bacon cranberry and chees sandwich a bit messy to eat
When I asked if they had any napkins the waitress said they didn’t have any no apologies
Luckily I had a pack of tissues in my bag
Will not go back
Visited here last night and sat outside it was a beautiful evening
Let down by a poor meal, food was very basic and also run out of quite a few options
Staff were quite unfriendly
Lovely spot, friendly people, less than half the menu was available due to ' delivery problems' and then we waited an hour for our very simple lunch order to arrive. Food very average indeed.
Waited 15 minutes for drinks to arrive, 2 Coronas, 1 Budweiser, 1 glass of wine, 1 J20 came to 'AN OVER RATED EXPENSIVE' £26 then sat waiting at our table where we were told the wait is 50 minutes, not even mega busy!! STAY AWAY'!!!!!
Myself and family went to the Lighter to eat last night .
17 of us , so I had pre ordered the mains . Table was booked for 7-30 and nobody bothered coming to us to ask if we wanted a starter , about 45 mins later the food started to arrive , which I will also say was poor quality and some of it was cold . So I can safely say we will never go back there again . Also they are very short staffed .
