Went in for a nice chilled out NYE. Great atmosphere and service. Good range of Gin, I keep eyeing up the bottle of forest gin, what do you with the empty of that. It is such a gorgeous bottle. 😊

Was up for the day from London visiting my father's grave an thought I'd pop into his local to reflect on the day and relax a bit before my train back....and I'm so glad I did!

The decor was spot on... ceiling plastered with old and new beer mats to which you could actually get a sore neck looking to see if you can find the odd rare one.

The beer on tap was hard to choose from as there we're about 10 of them, so I asked the very well spoken and educated staff for advice and she was spot on with the 'Red Dog'....so I had two it was that good.

The food I decided to go for was the Hull Fish and Chip special which was recommended by another member of staff as it came with a potato cake made with Marjoram...it was delicious.

London pubs can learn a lot from this place.....well done. Will visit again!

Most people leave reviews to complain and warn people away from making the same bad mistakes they’ve made, I think there’s a statistic that says if someone has a bad experience they’ll tell 10 people but if someone has a good one they’ll tell Just 3 people about it so by nature we all just prefer to complain.

It’s testament to this place that they have so many outstanding reviews from people who’ve genuinely enjoyed the environment the food and the wide selection of drinks.

For myself I wanted to take my parents somewhere outside their usual comfort zone and they adored this bar, the staff where bubbly and friendly the drinks where varied and of a high quality (yay for somewhere that cleans their lines properly) and the food was absolutely fantastic.

It’s only a small menu but you can tell everything is made in house by proper chiefs, not just cooks, and you can taste the difference.

I ordered from the specials and my parents both ordered the fish, chips and patty. And while we where waiting a while it was more than worth it.

I have no hesitation in recommending this bar, it has a friendly and rustic vibe that will resonate with anyone and you can enjoy the environment regardless of if your out having a quiet drink with friends, using it as part of a drinking circuit on one of those messy nights we all enjoy from time to time or if your wanting to relax and enjoy some good food.

That’s a balance that not many bars can manage, yeah I miss the old nellies but I think we’ve got something better now ^_^

I went in today, i had the beef stew on the specials menu, it was really good. The beef was nice & tender, sauce was really nice & glossy, the mash was a bit coarse, but I liked that with the soft meat, it was perfectly seasoned and just in general very good! I'll be coming again!

User

I love everything about this pub. The decor and atmosphere is brilliant. The choice of stout and porters is fantastic. Friendly and efficient staff. Absolutely delicious, freshly cooked food, with a good variety of specials as well as the every day menu. One of my favourite pubs to visit in Hull.

User

Had the pleasure of lunch here this week it was unexpected , the place is immaculate ,the staff friendly and the food to die for plus many real ales perfect place to relax

User

Great pub with no darts, snooker or football - just a lovely atmosphere where you are able to talk & hear your companion without having to shout!! Lots of artifacts to look at and plenty of stuff from the ‘old days’

A clean & friendly place with happy staff makes the place one you want to visit over & over again.

A large drink selection especially beers but not much choice for lager drinkers, still we are in Hull!!

User

Gorgeous food, great atmosphere, welcoming staff,a must if in the old town, even pop for a drink or enjoy a meal never disappointed

User

Excellent meal once again. My hubby had one of the best haddocks he has ever eaten ( and coming from Hull we don’t say that lightly ). I had the battered king prawns and omg they were delicious.

User

Excellent highly recommended compliments to the chef, I don’t often eat a whole meal we had the hull chippy special and I ate the Lot

User

Called in on a very cold day for lunch. Both ordered the Haddock chips and peas which was a huge portion, piping hot and with lovely bread and REAL butter (a pet hate of mine when restaurants use margarine). The batter was light and crispy and the fish was excellent. Staff were great. My only gripe would be that the fire wasn't working. Would have been lovely to see a roaring fire on a bitterly cold day. Will definitely return.

User

Brilliant place to eat and a real good pint too so my husband says when ever in Hull we go here for lunch never disappointed thank you 😊

User

Amazing food and excellent range of beer!!

User

A classic pub which must be one of the best in town. Excellent choice of real ales, good food and great service.
