What a waste of time the gin tasting was last night.

Winning a competition for a gin tasting session & stating we would be able to taste a ā€˜selection of gins.ā€™ In reality we were told to go to a small room - for the amount of people whom had also won the competition - queued up for a gin to be given a sample taste and then when we went back up again, told now you had to purchase them. Donā€™t quite understand how this was meant to be a tasting session.

If we were told before arrival we would be given one free sample gin and then would have to purchase wouldnā€™t have bothered travelling for thisļæ½

The pub itself was lovely, a very cosy and rustic interior, itā€™s such a shame to have been let down by a disorganised gin tasting session. Surely a gin tasting session included a little talk about the gin, the history, a taster of several gins and what is recommended as itā€™s mixer & if you wanted to purchase a full size cocktail or a bottle of your favourite one then that would be your opportunity.

Disappointed.

Meh, as the kids say. Beautiful little pub, real log fires, great decor, what I would call a "proper pub" if located in a village somewhere.

Friendly staff but food was, at best, 'ok' if feeling very generous. Server forgot cutlery and very short staffed on the bar to the extent my food was cool by the time I got back. And the taps in the toilet upstairs are broken. Massive improvements required for kitchen quality and staffing numbers. Saying that, I'll be back: nowhere else is in walking distance from the hotel.

We visited today and it was not busy but it took ages to get served. The food came and was cold!! Not good enough really! We did tell the staff.

We have been to this little pub every time we have stayed at the NEC but tonight the food was really bad !!! I ordered fish and chips it was that over cooked I couldnā€™t eat it!!! My husband ordered steak and that too was very over cooked and not very nice. Itā€™s such a shame as this is a lovely little pub but we wonā€™t be visiting again unless there is a vast improvement.

This could be such a lovely local pub within walking distance but itā€™s always disappointing..... went last Thursday certain lagers had ran out so had the cider on draught and some of the wines had ran out too... Went yesterday still no cider and only one bottle of Bulmers in the fridge... The camping and Caravan show was on at the NEC so they knew it could be busy there is really no need to run out...there is always staff shortages and no one behind the bar to serve.... never enough glasses as no one around to collect them off tables.... and the foods quite disappointing as well. The menā€™s toilets has a big hole in the floor and has been like that for well over a year the taos also donā€™t work in the menā€™s. The ladies toilets have hot taps that just keep running and do not turn off. The whole pub needs a complete overhaul probably starting with the brewery first!! ā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļø

Such a shame as this use to be a lovely pub however yesterday was terrible. Food ordered a huge wait even though it wasnā€™t busy had to send meal back as wasnā€™t cooked correctly and came back worse. We had to clear the tables ourselves as no one took away dirty plates even when we asked if they could. I would not recommend this as a good place to eat. Nobody cared that we werenā€™t happy either. Such a shame.

Poor everything! We stayed in the holiday inn and arrived at apx 7.30, wanting to have a nice dinner and an early night before flying in the morning. First impressions were good, nice cozy country pub. Menu was varied but not huge, starters Ā£6+, mains Ā£12+, puds Ā£6 & kids main meal Ā£5.50. So not cheap pub grub. We eventually ordered at the bar after being ignored by staff for a few minutes, lager off but found alternative. When food arrived, even the children were shocked and I wish I had taken photos! Kids meal 1- The kids burger was so small and dried up, 8 chips & a desert spoon of dried up beans. Kids meal 2- 1 sausage, skin coated mash and an even smaller amount of beans - no gravy as mentioned on menu. Adults fish, chips & peas, fish looked like a frozen supermarket value portion, tasted of nothing and had wet batter (not freshly battered but prepackaged frozen) 12 over cooked chips and a pot of dried up peas (now Iā€™m exaggerating! The pot had a coating of green peas and certainly was not a portion!) we actually laughed at how unbelievably bad it was! Our waiter fetched missing items but it was so bad I eventually asked for the manager who struggled to see a problem but wanted to know how he could help.... I told him not to expect a pleasant review and I was asked if he provide a refund would the review go away!!!! Er no! Bathroom were disgusting and food made school dinners look amazing. Having looked at other reviews now, our experience appear to be the norm for this place and management will respond with shock that customers expectations are not met, well start with kids meals and work up because my children are not that tricky to please and you failed miserably.

My family and I attended your pub this evening and ordered four meals.

The children ordered chicken with bacon and bbq sauce off the menu, my husband ordered a burger with extra bacon and I ordered steak and ale pie.

We waited 40 minutes for our food for it to arrive with no bacon with the childrenā€™s meal and my pie was a chicken and mushroom / leek instead of steak and ale!!

My husband had one slice of streaky bacon for Ā£1.00! Which seems a bit extreme for one slice of bacon.

My pie was sent back and I waited a further 10 minutes for what I actually ordered, meanwhile the bacon came out for the children, which was only slightly grilled and my daughter choked on a slice.

A lady at he bar asked if she was ok, but no other assistance was offered as my daughter was clearly distressed.

The lady did offer us complimentary tea or coffee or pudding but after a dramatic and long wait for food we just left as we sat for 5 minutes after our food and our table was not cleared.

Overall very poor service from start to finish and we will not be returning again!
