The Little Trip Boat - At The Aylesbury Basin

Work has started, lock looks deeper, looks complicated!

I don’t believe it!! Father Christmas has been in touch with me and says he can do a trip with us on Friday 21st December at 1pm. Hoorah! There will be present as well!! So come along and wrap up warm £15:00 for kiddywinks and £9:50 for grown-ups including our trip!! Very limited spaces though!!

The Little Trip Boat has just completed it’s last trip through the old lock gates at Lock 16. The Canal and River Trust have everything in place ready for Monday morning and work should take two weeks. I shall take a stroll up to have a look from time to time. The new lock gates look great!!

This is Lock 16 on the Aylesbury Arm, the first one we negotiate on our trips. The Canal & River Trust have a closure notice on it from Monday when it will be replaced. This work will take approximately 2 weeks, and because of this, I am reluctant to get in touch with Father Christmas and organise trips with him in case the works run over. So, this weekend is likely to be the last time we can do trips before the festive season. It may be a bit ‘fresh’ out there, and if you would like a distraction we will be out and about at 1pm and 3pm on both days of the weekend: £9:50 for adults and £7:50 for children!!

In the Basin there seem to be more of our feathered friends than ever at this time of year. There are Canada geese, an army of ducks, two swans, pigeons and quite a few terns. Lots of people are feeding them, so let’s hope they all make it though the winter..
Our trips this weekend are at 1pm and 3pm, £9:50 for adults and £7:50 for children.. dogs are allowed as well!!

It’s not quite cold enough yet to make tweets visible and the weather looks sunny for Friday and Saturday, with maybe rain on Sunday! So we will be chugging along on Friday at 1pm and Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 3pm. Grown-ups £9:50 and Kiddywinks £7:50..

Just wanted to say this to all the people who have come on trips, shared ‘The Little Trip Boat’ page and been so kind with their reviews and comments. We love doing this and after eighteen months of trading, it looks like it just might work!
Lock 16 (the first one we go through) is being replaced on 3rd December and the canal will be closed for two weeks, then in January I am hoping to send the boat away to have it’s bottom blacked, paintwork touched up and the engine serviced.
It has been an amazing eighteen months, the people we have met and even the obstacles we have encountered have all served to make this venture so memorable.

At the last minute have decided to do a moonlit trip tomorrow, Thursday, at 6pm.... it will be a ‘Hunter’s Moon’, large and bright and low in the sky.

Just to remind you, dogs are allowed on the trip boat! Biscuit came along today with his lovely family and we supplied him with a bowl of water... we have doggy life jackets if you are worried!

Hello Mum’s and Dads and in fact, everyone!! With half term on the doorstep we will be floating up (and down) the canal every day next week, enjoying the sights and sounds. The weather forecast doesn’t seem to have any rain in it at the moment!!
Trips will be at 1pm EVERY week day and are £9:50 for grown-ups and £7:50 for children! You are welcome to bring snacks and drinks!!

Don’t forget!! We do posh teas as well! I often post pictures of other canals in different seasons, particularly as I have no pictures of Autumn, the last one is causing some confusion as it’s not Aylesbury, so, here is your very own Aylesbury Arm!!

Autumn is definitely here, although with this weather it’s difficult to tell.
We will be floating up the canal watching the leaves turn a different colour and drop every weekend until early December!

What's not to love?! We had a wonderful, relaxing trip today with the sun shining hot and a really pleasant atmosphere with the other guests. Sorry again for the slight delayed start (due to us being late!).... Liz you are doing my dream job, never stop and don't go back to the rat race!!

We loved our trip yesterday! 4 adults, 2 kids and a baby and it was fab for all ages. Lovely relaxing pace with pretty views, what’s not to like?! The kids really enjoyed getting involved with the opening and closing of locks and had loads of fun. Would highly recommend the trip to all.

We loved our little trip along the canal on Saturday in the sunshine. Even got to help work the locks. Polished off the afternoon with a Pimms and lemonade in the courtyard of a very old Aylesbury pub, the Kings Head.

We had lovely time . Let my 3 year old work the lock he loved it great time

We had a family hen group on board this Saturday and the communication, efficiency and friendliness during our rather last minute booking was second to none! All our group enjoyed our delicious afternoon tea provided by Travelling Teas to You and everyone from the 83year old grandmas to my 2 year old daughter loved the meander up and down the canal. We will definitely be coming back and doing this again! Thank you so much!

Took a family trip on the little boat last weekend and we had a lovely afternoon. My daughter is only two and she had so much fun. She got to sit right at the front and help with the locks. Such a lovely couple and great fun. Can't recommend enough

Lovely afternoon trip with Liz & Roger today. Just me & my son which was a shame considering it is half term. Thoroughly recommend taking a trip, Liz is very knowledgeable and interesting, made us very welcome. Got to help open & close locks and my son did a bit of steering �

I met Liz recently on a visit to Aylesbury and enjoyed her company over "dinner" and then went on the canal trip the next day. Soooo relaxing and watching Liz at work with the boat and the way she interacts with the children and puts them at ease with being on the boat was great. I am from Australia and met people on board who live 30 mins away from me...small world. You and your business deserve every success Liz.

Fab trip today. Lovely weather. Nice slow pace. We saw soooooo much nature up close and personal. It's not every day you're close enough to a heron to be on speaking terms! Have been wanting to do this trip for ages and wasn't disappointed! Thanks very much to the crew and my fellow travellers for making it so enjoyable.

As advised we booked in advance- 2 families so we had 12 in total which meant exclusivity of the boat.



Fantastic experience for all the children aged between 1 and 15! (And adults) The lucky dip is a nice touch (sorry about the mess!!!)



Staff were really knowledgeable about the area and approachable - each child had a turn ‘driving’ and they all got off to help with the last Lock!

A brilliant experience for our family. The distance/time spent on the boat is perfect for children (ours aged 5 & 11). They didn't get bored at all. Our 11 year old helped with the locks on the way back too which was really fab. We packed a picnic lunch. It was a really perfect taste of canal boating. Thank you to Liz - a prefect hostess.

Thanks for a lovely little trip yesterday, complete with seeing a heron on the bank. Lovely to see children on the boat, but would suggest better suited to over 5yrs old, or little ones on reigns, to make them safe. Great to hear their chatter. Really poor, bad attitude and need to join the 21st century. We live on the canal and are constantly seeing the boat, the signs and being given cards etc. No mention of ever needing to book in advance and without a website, no way to have known what was to happen when we tried to take a trip. Finally got the chance on a Tuesday afternoon, thinking it would be quiet, waited with two very small and excited children. Queued up with a party of elderly people to overhear a complaint about us and the guy talking to the other passengers about us and that he would have words with us. All whilst we are still in the queue. Because we hadn’t booked and it was a private party we were told we couldn’t take the trip and should have booked in advance. How was I to know? The signs were out advertising the times, no indication of a private hire, otherwise I wouldn’t have wasted an hour of our precious time and disappointing my children. They only response to my complaint - there’s another trip at 3pm or you can come again! Sort out your marketing and communication, get a website, make it clear that you need or book on a Tuesday afternoon and rethink your customer service (just because you have a monopoly doesn’t mean you can treat customers poorly) and hopefully others will avoid such disappointment.
