Went to the lock keeper for breakfast this morning. We got to choose from the all you can eat continental which included various pastries (which were amazing!), toast, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, a range of juices as well as a range of hot drinks from a self service machine. We then ordered a classic breakfast that was delicious and plenty big enough after the continental. And to our complete surprise the lovely manager paid for our meal as a random gesture of kindness! It was much appreciated and we will return. Thank you very much!

User

We went on a Saturday and had the 2 steaks and a bottle of wine deal for £22. Lovely food cooked as we asked and can not fault the place or the service and was great value. Looking at the other people's plates of food the carvery and other meals looked good too. We would definitely go again when in the area.

User

Lovely food, lovely staff and lovely atmosphere. Also would like to say thanks to the girl behind the bar, I left my bag by accident after we had a family meal there today and when my partner went back in the lady had taken my bag and kept it behind the bar to keep it safe. :)

User

Had a beautiful breakfast this morning. Continental breakfast followed by a classic breakfast. Really nice and very reasonable priced too. The staff are very welcoming and very polite. Then to top this brilliant experience as a gesture of good will the manager then paid for our breakfast. We will definitely be returning. Thank you so much and keep up the good work xx

User

We went to the Lock Keeper with our three children this evening. The family Carvery deal was good value. £20 for four meals, which were lovely and a choice of two dessert from the cabinet. Would definitely recommend the carvery. The drinks were a bit expensive. So perhaps adding some deals on drinks etc would be great but over-all it was a decent evening for families with quick service and friendly staff.

User

Pretty standard chain pub menu, burger in Yorkshires is a bit of a quirky take but the potion of chips was a bit measly. We had breakfast the following morning and it was pretty unimpressive, over cooked eggs, split hollandaise and the bacon wasn’t crispy as described.

User

I normally have a great meal at the lock keeper but today was very disappointing, asked for a child's knife and fork and the person didn't appear to be interested in even looking just said they didn't have any, also they wasn't very welcoming some of the staff,my partner meal was missing the barbecue sauce which when I asked for some the reply was I will have a look for some no mention of sorry, some of the waiters didn't smile looked quite miserable It didn't make it a nice atmosphere at all.

User

We went for a carvery, the meats were beef ,gammon & turkey, of which I had 2 not the turkey. The meat was nice..... not excellent, gammon fatty & beef a bit of gristle. Vegetables.... leeks in a watery cheese sauce... not cooked tasted of raw cornflour. Carrots watery,, peas mushy, I tried the lemon zesty tart which was ok again not really sharp as I’d expected. They were very busy and it was about 1800 so late in the day. Good value for money if only the veggies had been a bit better. The Yorkshire puddings were excellent, tasty gravy, & well done roast potatoes

User

We visited the lock keeper yesterday for lunch. We travelled out of our way to go thinking it would be nice to sit outside in the sun, eat lunch and watch the boats but sadly we won't be making the trip again.

I will start by saying the food way lovely, we received exactly what we ordered and it arrived swiftly by a very pleasant young waiter. I cannot fault that! However the service of some of your other staff ruined our experience.

It was busy when we were there and the queue for ordering was quite long. I didn't mind the wait but when I did finally get served i was spoken to very very abruptly. The lady never looked at me when speaking, never smiled. We was too busy yawning when I was placing my order. My drinks were slammed on the bar and dotted all over for me the collect together. Just generally bad service. I work in hospitality and appreciate it was busy, hpt and hard work but this is no excuse for bad service.

I then asked a young guy who was stood the entrance where the baby change facility's were. After looking at me 'gone out' and me having to explain what baby change meant he directed me to the ladies toilets in the entrance. Me and little boy when into the ladies to find no baby change. Feeling confused we went back out to the entrance where the boy was still stood. I said "excuse me but I cannot find the baby change in the ladies" and he abruptly answer. "Well it's in there!" As if I was lying! Lucky another waiting who was very polite and efficient directed me with no fuss.

It's a really shame that our visit was not a pleasant one. It is a lovely spot with good food but some of your staff have let you down!

User

Was very disappointed yesterday with the quality of the food. There was more pastry than filling in the pies and the pastry was very hard around the edges, there was hardly any mash and it wasn't very appetizing and not very warm! One pie had completely collapsed on one side and they'd tried to hide it with the gravy pot!!! Overall very poor

User

Tonight’s meal has really put me off visiting in future.

I would class myself and family as regular customer at least once a month visit on a Sunday for a carvery, last few times it has been getting slowly worse but tonight’s was shocking!

usually 3 meats available tonight only option was very fatty stringy undercooked gammon ham, I was served the most tiniest potion of the horrible stuff.

I then went onto the veg selection where all the vegetables was like mush.

The roast potatoes if you can call them that as they looked and tasted like they haven’t seen the inside of an oven! They was giant in size and raw!

I took my dinner back to the lady behind the bar ( think one of the managers as wasn’t in normal uniform) to complain and her reply was a shrug of the shoulders and a comment of yeah we have been busy so no meat left and your not the 1st person to complain about the potatoes and vegetables!

No apologises or anything.

Why if I wasn’t the 1st person to complain about the carvery why was they still serving it? Understand being busy but should have been informed when purchasing that there was only gammon available.

5 meals went untouched and 5 drinks went untouched!

Really put me off visiting in future.

User

The bar service is very poor...we would have had a meal there but after having waited almost 10 minutes to get served when there were only 6 people in front of us we decided against it. The "pub" and l use that term lightly is basically only a restaurant. You stand in a queue to order a pint. The same queue for people ordering food. There were just two staff working on the bar who were extremely slow. A similar type of pub in Sheffield turns over double the amount of customers ordering food and bar service in half the time. It's a pity really because it is a nice pub and in a lovely location. It wasn't full either so God help you if it was. One to avoid unfortunately as the food didn't look bad.

User

always pop in but yesterday ( yes I know it was bank holiday weekend ) but only 1 lager on ( fosters) didn't have 3 out 4 choices for food I asked for to start with and then when the wraps came out sadly like cold cardboard. definately disappointing.

and I wasn't the only one who was commenting on the situation. I was sat outside and 2 other tables said the same, all wanting something that wasn't available.

User

Would give zero, bit it won't let me. Went for carvery today and whilst waiting for the server to eventually come out, we saw so many flies land on the food it wasn't funny! When I said something to the server, he swatted at the damn things (hopefully he didn't catch any for them to be eaten by some unsuspecting person) and said there was nothing he could do. No chance I was going to eat food contaminated by pests!

User

What can I say lock keeper.....poor show with staff today. Only 1 bar staff serving with 4 waiting staff stood talking to said bar staff and a queue of people to the door.

User

Very disappointed with the visit this evening.

Queuing from the door to the bar, 15 mins to get served, only 2 staff serving. To be honest, I have seen it busier and more efficient.

On the second trip to the “bus stop queue” to order food and further drinks, again, waiting at the door, and 15mins later I ordered. I asked the lady serving me, why there was no more staff , the answer was if we serve too fast, the kitchen cannot cope! For goodness sake, have more staff or separate queues for food and drink. The manager was present and walking around all the time.

Then, when our food came, we were sat outside, and the young lad brought the food. I asked for cutlery and sauces, and was told it was near the door and to get it myself.

We will not be visiting again, and will spend our money in the other local pubs.

User

Poor range of food on carvery meats were good with good portions but the veg etc was ve . Worst service I have ever come across. Took the waitress over 35 mins to clear our table from us finishing. Manager very rude !
