Welcome to The Lyric Theatre in Bridport! The home of Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company and a whole bunch of weird and wonderful puppets. Follow our news and help us on our way to becoming an exciting artist-led theatre full of spontaneous fun!
The Lyric Theatre Description
Niki McCretton moved into The Lyric in September 2010 and working with a small but dedicated team have successfully managed to get the building up and running as an artist-led venue and hire-able space for creative people to come and make their work.
There's a workshop upstairs which is our Puppet Laboratory where Holly Miller makes puppets and we host our Puppet Club. - a hugely popular club for budding puppet makers /puppeteers ranging in age from 6 to 60 +
Downstairs is our kitchen, office, toilets and beautiful flock wall-papered auditorium complete with proscenium-arch, stage, donated grand piano and remove-able dance floor for classes.
We're running the theatre as a spontaneous venue for artists (and Stuff and Nonsense! ) to create and showcase their work in. If you're interested in bringing your work to the Lyric or in hiring it, please e-mail admin@the-lyric.com or call 01308 423951.

Workshop and another show today! Come along and support original theatre!
This time next week! Join us for a great night of fun, ruffling skirts, high kicking (or attempting it!), just having a go at the Can-Can, led by Victoria Hole - ooh la la! We have a few (small) skirts to borrow but ideally please bring your own to make sure it fits. Round up your friends, Victoria's have-a-go dance classes are always a good giggle! Just be sure to book ahead due to limited spaces - £12 from Bridport TIC & BearKat. Sacre Bleu!
This weekend folks! Come and warm your cockles with this slice of loveliness, 7pm tomorrow and 6pm Sunday, plus a workshop Sunday afternoon. Tickets are £6 kids, £10 for adults in advance (i.e. until 3pm tomorrow!) / £12 adults on the door :-)
We absolutely cannot WAIT for this weekend - The Matthew Robins Christmas Show + workshop! Have you got your tickets? This is truly the most beautiful show you will watch this Christmas. Come and hear the story of Flyboy, Evaporina and friends, join in their adventures, make your own, and have all the warm fuzzies! Everything in this show has been carved by hand with love. Show tickets are £6 children (either on door or in advance) and £10 adults in advance/£12 on door. Workshop tickets £10 children / £12 adults. This Sunday, come and enjoy Steamboat Bill Jr featuring The Arranz Ensemble, as well as some short films from the 1900s! Tickets are £10 if you buy them until Saturday from Bridport Tourist Information Centre or £12 on the door. Bar and doors open at 6:30pm. See you there!
Wow!! What a fabulous night HERSONG was! Massive thanks go to all the performers for sharing their fantastic varied talents to a packed house; to the audience for filling the Lyric with love and generously donating; to Matt Hayden for his patient and seamless tech-spertise and of course to Rosie Russell who generously organised the whole event, not forgetting our lovely stewards who are always help make our events go smoothly. We are thrilled to say the event raised £884, which kickstarts our new year's fundraising campaign to get the Barrack Street facing windows replaced, after the great success of getting the auditorium ones reinstated. Wooppeee!!! Thank you so very much all of you xxx

Sacre Bleu! Victoria Hole - aka Velma Holiday - is back...
Come learn the high- (or not so high) kicking, skirt-swishing, whooping extravaganza that is the French Can-Can!
This spirited and energetic dance has been a firm Parisian favourite since the early 19th century. We will celebrate this energetic and powerful dance with the famous can-can chorus line and a flash or two of the derriere! Disclaimer: Please wear undergarments.
... Bring comfortable footwear and a full, round skirt suitable for swishing (we have a few small sized ones available to borrow on the night). Suitable for those with a little or a lot of dance experience, the aim of the game is fun and fancy free.
Victoria is a professional Bristol-based dancer and dance teacher. She puts everyone at ease with her friendly, fun teaching style. You might have been to her Jive and Charleston workshops she has run over the last year - this workshop, like her others, is open to everyone (over 16) to come and try it out, and have fun!
Tickets are £12, available from Bridport TIC: 01308 424901 / online. There are limited places, so please book ahead! The workshop runs from 7:30pm - 9:30pm with a short break. Doors & bar open at 7pm.

Wonderful venue. Have rehearsed here, performed here and watched theatre here and it’s always such a pleasure!
What a cool place. Great creative vibe in the room too, very much enjoyed working here and hope to do so again very soon.
Police Cops in Space @thepretendmen last night was the best tonic to break up our long winter! I haven't laughed so much in a long time...so witty, fast and clever with fanastic impro, super cool dancing (that I can relate to), just brilliant.
And the wardrobe....AMAZING!!!
I've seen 3 shows here now and they've all been hilariously random and brilliant.
I love the Lyric. With astonishingly creative and often wonderfully unusual theatre and performance (and a quirky bar). Plus always a friendly greeting from Niki, her staff and stewards.

Folie a deux- what an awesome show last night. Beautifully written and performed- so so inspiring. And hilarious! Very excited to see what they do next- this was great theatre!
