What a great pub, excellent service, fab location & lovely food. Will definitely return :)
We went there yesterday, there were 11 of us and gave them 15 minutes notice before we arrived. Lisa our waitress was amazing, nothing was to much trouble. The food was absolutely amazing. Will definitely be going back.
Thanks Sam
We as a family go for Sunday lunch with grandchildren service good Sunday roast great kids love the food and my lot are fussy
Thank You so much for our meal for 30 last night! We had a great night with our family celebrating my mum's 50th birthday. The food was excellent and the staff were amazing. The man serving us and looking after us was absolutely brilliant, joined in with banter and couldn't do enough for us. Im not sure of his name but he is a credit to the Malt Shovel Uxbridge. Thank You to Bex too for all your help organising!
Staff could not help enough food good
Our first visit to the Malt Shovel for a lovely autumn Sunday Lunch. Absolutely fantastic tasty Sunday roast. Had the roast beef plenty to eat...although I am a bit of a gravy freak so would of liked a little more in my jug. Had a lovely view over the canal and our waitress was super friendly and helpful. Thank you Philippa. We will definately be back again but poss without my elderly Mum as there are a few steps that she found a little tricky. But apart from that ....big tick
On behalf of The Large Portion band who played at your fabulous venue on NYE, we want to say a huge thanks to all of the staff who looked after us.
Great food, great atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome.
It was a great night and we will be returning as the food was fantastic !!! Five stars from us all.
Thanks again, The Large Portion
Nice and cozy atmosphere. Great staff and a good place to grab a pint and a quick bite.
Love love the food!!! Service was amazing ,staff so friendly, will definitely be going back for the salmon
I was at the Malt Shovel yesterday eve for a leaving party. The food and staff were excellent. The evening went without a hitch the food was served very quickly even though there was over 40 in our party.
I really liked it here. The setting is beautiful. The pub itself is very nice and staff are friendly. Can't wait to go in the summer months
Had an amazing meal at the Malt Shovel last night, I’d highly recommend the chicken pie! Delicious Was a great night at the fortnightly pub quiz also, always great fun and such a lovely bunch of people, come join in, we get such a warm and friendly welcome every time we go to the Shovel. Xx
Great time had by all. The food was delicious. Loved the sharing dessert platter.
Excellent service for a start, followed by amazing food. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken on the bone (small) and wished I've ordered the large. It was simply yummilicious! The pie was really generous and the fish from special menu was to drool for 🤤. Don't forget to order the mushroom from the starter, you won't regret it. Calamari was just as good as it comes. Just try them 👍👍👍
Been for valentines. Menu well varied. Food beautiful and all the staff excellent! We will be returning for Pie Wednesday
After having moved to the UK 3 years ago, I was looking for a decent local restaurant with good food and service. As a chef, I tend to be a bit fussy about things. I stumbled across The malt shovel one night and have never looked back. Superb service, tasty food and an incredibly friendly atmosphere created by all of the staff. I have dined there for birthdays, mothers day, fathers and lazy summer days....and have always left with a full belly and a good laugh. If I knew the names of our usual waitress and the brilliant bar staff, I would give them a special mention. Will definitely be back several times. P.S...the fathers day beef Wellington was incredible.
After a disastrous boxing day 2016 we heard it was under new management with a new cheif/waiting and bar staff so thought we'd try it out, so Nov 17 we visited and was impressed so much we booked Xmas day & boxing day, 2 fantastic days. Booked tonight for family birthday and another great night...Def worth a visit
A county pub you don’t have to leave London for.
We always like to visit the Malt Shovel. Lovely atmosphere and they do really tasty chips too. The decking area is cosy if you need to catch up with friends.
Spur of the moment lunch with my sister on a Sunday, they were very busy but fitted us in without a booking.
Chicken Pie, onion mash and veg.... absolutely delicious!!
So much choice on the menu I will have to go again next time I'm in the area.
Had a good meal yesterday service very good. Our waitress I think her name was Lisa very good .
Food was great and priced well. Can get busy other wise very good service and friendly staff
The Malt Sheldon is situated along a beautiful part of the Canale in Ivor the food I had eventually was very tasty but the service was so slow the only time a waitress come to us was to keep pestering and asking us was the food okay when all we wanted to do was eat our food and go .
Went for dinner with my partner. We both ordered steaks service was quick but the food was so good. I had ordered my steak blued and to be honest it was near raw not blued it had barely been shown the pan and was bland and tasteless which is not what you expect from a £20 10oz rib eye steak, we were also served as part of our meals some god awful onion fritter things that weren't really a fritter or onion ring and tasted vile.
We had a desert and my partner ordered the peach Melba creme brûlée which was more like a raspberry egg custard and the only resemblance to a creme brûlée was the caramelised sugar on top
We had our first date at the malt shovel and decided that we'd eat in there, we'll we won't be going again
To be honest not the best visit we have had, everything that was supposed to be hot was cold, even the coffee!!!!
The pub itself is lovely and our waitress was very helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired. We were a party of 4 and 3 of us ordered the chicken pie which we all thought was very nice, however the vegetables were cold even though the plates were hot and the mash was lukewarm. For dessert I wanted the carrot cake cheesecake so I asked the waitress to check it didn't have sultanas as I hate them. She checked and confirmed it didn't so I ordered it. Unfortunately 2 bites in and there were sultanas!! My brother ordered the crumble of the day. Again the dish was very hot but the middle of the crumble was Ice cold. The waitress was very apologetic and we weren't charged for the 2 desserts but it was very disappointing and I don't think we will be rushing back.
The food we actually got was excellent, the service was atrocious, 3/4 hr wait for starter, main came on time after starter. Ordered desert and after waiting 1/2 an hour I enquired and was told it would take at least another 10 minutes. At that point I cancelled the order, paid and left. When I mentioned this poor service I was told there was a staff shortage and that it wasn’t their fault and I was made to feel guilty for complaining. It was a great shame as we would have stayed all evening, eating and drinking; your loss
I found the staff a little rude. When buying a drink, the bar staff member didn’t know how to make it. She asked another member who tried to help, to which the former responded, “Well, don’t you think I’ve already tried that”. It was said in an unpleasant way.
When our food was brought to the table, my husband and I were given the wrong dinners. That was not an issue, until the waitress told me it was my fault by the way I indicated! I was taken aback.
The food was ok. I felt disappointed with a mini dessert, Eton Mess, I only found a tiny piece of merangue. It was mainly a Noel if sweet cream, which I left.
Food is nice and reasonably priced, but service is well below standard.
Starters turned up ok, but no sign of mains 40 mins later. Only then does waitress show up to apologise for delay, doesn't stay long enough to even take orders for more drinks.
Don't expect we'll be coming back
First time id been there with my familly..we were shown to a nice clean table and we orderd a starter...sheare lobster king prawn with cheesey mushrooms..n kittle bread platter...n the waitress brought out a large plate.n 4 little plates...wich i found odd..as there was only enough on there for 2 ppl...so my daughter n her partner orderd a starter aswell at same time..me n my friend ate our lobster platter..well if you can call it that 6 prawns a tinny bowl of mushrooms n lobster???? I teeny weeny bit that looked as if it came out of a shop brought tub...n my daughter waited nearly an hour for her starter...when the waitress came out with our main meals...my daughter asked were her starter was.n the sheff forgot to cook it.... then we had puddings everyone had apple crumble n icecream and custard...me i orderd a creme brulae with 2 little biskets....the brulae was cold.....first time i had one so dont know wether there ment to be cold or not but was nice...i had fish n chips for main..chips were nice but the batter on my fish was cooked but my fish was snotty n batter inside looked to raw ie wet...after i got home an hour latr i had a bad gut ake...hmmmm and i find them to expensive for quality n amount of food you get..wont be eating there again
What happened to the food here - it used to be really nice and fresh. Two disappointing visits recently and I have been coming here for nearly 20 years. I even had a conference dinner here for nearly 100 people in 2013.
Wasted 2.5 hours in this dump. So under staffed. 2 staff members and the garden was ram packed. Had to wait 20 min every time you wanted a drink by a moody teenager. Food was ok looked like it had sat under a lamp for half hour and by the time it come I was irritated and passed it. Over priced for what it was. Never would I return again. Lame atmosphere, loads dirty tables. Left over dog water bowls left all over the floor with hair and old food in them and the floor was filthy how they don’t have rats is beyond me. Don’t waste ya time people I wish i had a refund. They did offer a free £1 ice cream for the kids but I can better in the co op
This isn't even worth one star. Have visited twice now and got poor service. First time I came here ordered steak and was given the complete wrong one. So thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt and come again, this time ordered the steak med-well came out cremated. sent it back, second one came out and it was just as bad. Ordered one calamari got given two because the waitress got the tables mixed up, and then came back with mains and was sarcastic towards us, drinks were also flat too. The Irish bar staff was lovely but the waitress was rude as. Overall wouldn't recommend unless you wanna pay money for poor food and poor service
The staff are always friendly and polite! So professional especially when delivering bad news! Sorry we don't have any chicken, or lamb or bacon rib! This has happened a number of times now. And feel you have hoodwinked us especially when we curtiusly booked a table. I feel you could of been honest and told us at this point. Shame we were proud to visit our local over the years, but not anymore....
Service terrible my granddaughter couldn't eat her chocolate brownie too hard couldn't cut it would not recommend this place
Nice pub in terms of setting but that's about it! Service with a smile is something that seems to have been forgotten here, and the food was crap
My daughter booked a table for 7 at 5.30 today(Mother's Day) we arrived at 5.20 to be told there would be an hours wait, lots of families were waiting for their tables..Mother's Day ruined for some, one family at a table had been at there table 3 hours and were still waiting for their desert. We decided to leave and I have to say the 2 men that sorted the return of our deposit could not have cared less. This was a shambles on a day when people just wanted to treat their mothers. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant as their customer service is non existent. We had a lovely meal in the Swan and bottle with great customer service.
I got a parking fine for parking for 2 hours & 7 minutes despite registering my car on their parking system & spending close to £150 between 6 of us.
Pathetic, The Vine or The Red Lion on Uxbridge Rd do not have such ridiculous money making car parks!
Shame because it's fantastic pub with good food & great service!!!
Had a table reserved for us, a party of 8, for 5:30pm on Sunday. Got seated and 30 minutes later had not even been given drinks. We were sat close to the bar, when they did eventually make them 2 were wrong so they had to be re done and then they sat on the bar and weren't brought to us. 2 of the starters weren't available. We ordered mains and another main wasn't available. We were only told this 15 minutes after ordering. When the bill came later we were charged for the more expensive mains we weren't given. On top of that when two mains were brought to the table, despite asking for cutlery 15 mins previously we weren't given any so were given food but weren't able to eat it. My food wasn't hot, it was warm at best. Just awful, it is run really badly. Older more experienced staff needed, it wasn't even busy in there!
What a great pub, excellent service, fab location & lovely food. Will definitely return :)
