Visited with my wife on a rare day off , after hearing good reviews from friends and reading online.

We arrived just after noon, and we were the first to arrive. Specials board was packed, but I opted for fish with homemade chips and mushy peas, and my wife went for Liver and Onions.

The homemade chips were to die for. The best way to describe how good the chips were was "I cut each one in half to eat it".

My wife also commented after tasting her first mouthful of her meal (with the lovely onion gravy) "I can't wait to come back again and try something else."

By 12:30 (on a Tuesday afternoon) another 5 tables were occupied, I was thankful we had come at right time.

Sweets were also very good, again with plenty of choice.

Cannot wait to return, hopefully later this week.

User

Lovely home cooked food, Sunday dinner was spot on! Only criticism from me is I want decent mint sauce and other condiments not the cheap stuff but other than that great food

User

Kids said it was best burger they had ever had and couldn't fault my meal quite happy to recommend the masons

User

Food was spot on...struggled eating the roast dinner as the portions are a good size...didnt stop me going for the jam sponge and custard tho.. Ha ha really good food and service

User

User

Enjoyed our meal we had braising steak and it melted in your mouth and proper chips with it , would recommend

User

Bang on food (must have been about 1kg of meat on that mixed grill). Reasonably priced. Proper good hangover cure. Definite new local having just moved to the area.

User

We went here for Xmas eve lunch. The food was lovely and massive portions. Warm and friendly staff. If there was one thing missing it was the fact they had a real fire and it was not on. Just thought a roaring fire by the xmas tree would of really set the mood for xmas. Will definitely go back.

User

The food i enjoyed. However my thanks and praise goes to the bar manager she was excellent, efficient and needs to be thanked by the owner. She did an excellent job x

User

Arrived for my mum n dads 30th wedding anniversary Loved the food I had the ploughmans lunch! And boy was a lunch it was huge pate, pork pies, pickles, different cheeses, crackers grapes,, applies all neatly presented on a board yum! Food all homemade had apple pie with custard for desert and it was to die for! Nice pub and suitable for families as well as couples or friends had footie on too but there's a separate bit for dining so your out of the way!

We visited here yesterday as we found it whilst looking on-line for proper homemade pub grub that was different to where we normally frequent. We called ahead & was advised we wouldn't need to pre-book but they would let the Chef know we were on our way, which we thought was an unusual thing to say but we went with the flow... upon arrival, the property itself didn't look up to much from the outside & the interior was nothing like portrayed on their website...quite misleading really, however we embraced the very old fashioned Public House with gusto ha! We were greeted by very friendly staff & seated in the separate dining area to the rest of the Pub. Always feel wary when the menus are sticky & unclean but we were pleasantly surprised at how the food was presented! WOW!... & portion size!! My husband & I ordered the gammon & these were proper thick slices & cooked well which is always a bonus! We asked for eggs that were runny but not snotty (perfect in other words, ha!)... they didn't quite hit the mark & one was swapped part-way through the meal as it had gone solid (fair enough). The home cooked chips were a tad greasy & they tasted a little like either the oil they were cooked in needed changing OR, they'd been cooked in some sort of lard...quite an odd un-fresh taste so didn't quite hit the mark there unfortunately. Our lad got a childrens burger with chips & beans - he pretty much demolished the large burger until he hit a very overcooked part of it & the chips again let his meal down. We decided to order pudding for extra filling as we were off to a bonfire display so out for rest of the afternoon/evening, chocolate fudge cake & jam sponge with lashings of custard - the latter was fab but the puddings themselves missed the mark...was supposed to be homemade... we didn't think so, they both looked shop bought & tasted bland. We left disappointed with a "it was OK" from the husband whom is a keen Chef himself. We don't think we will be re-visiting unfortunately but we are glad we tried some place a little different that was clearly a historic place to experience with the locals enjoying their football ha!

User

It was our first visit. There was a private function on so we ate in the back bar. The music was a bit loud, I thought I was in an ministry of sound club. The food was home cooked, and good. Will try it again if we can get in the front bar.

User

2nd time here!! 1st time was very nice But tonight I asked the waitress to change my cutlery as it wasn't very clean she inspected it & proceeded to disagree with me! Then she put her glasses on properly & said oh yes but put the dirty 1's back in the cutlery drawer!! Just change the bloody cutlery woman! Had to ask for my food to be reheated as it wasn't very hot! Shame as I was really looking forward to the ribs! Not sure worth a 3rd visit
