A little reminder for anyone who receives their smear test letter during pregnancy to pop it in the calendar to book after baby is born. 🥰

Ladies, today (Sunday) would be a very good day for a tour if you are coming towards the later weeks of your pregnancy and would like to familiarise yourselves with the MLBU. Give us a call 01603 646008.

Hello from the night shift! Did you know....? Each of our rooms is named after a flower, and has a picture of the flower in the room. Orchid room has this lovely orchid....

Did you know.....? We have widened our ‘criteria’ for women who can safely give birth on the MLBU. For otherwise straightforward, healthy pregnancies we now have no age restrictions, no lower BMI limit, are able to welcome women with known Group B Strep (requiring IV antibiotics in labour) and those who have an ARM (artificial rupture of membranes) for induction who then labour without needing further medication. Please message us for further info. 😊

Welcome to our new page. 🙂
We hope to share information with women and their families about our birthing unit and what we offer.
We keenly welcome feedback from those who have spent time with us, and we have a ‘reviews’ tab for anyone who would like to do this. We would also welcome birth stories/photos if anyone would like to share.
... As always, any urgent midwifery enquiries should be directed, by telephone, to Medicom.
Thank you. 🙂

Unfortunatly i was unable to deliver my baby on the unit due to my personal health issues, but i have witnessed first hand the professional, amazing, caring staff who work here and would highly recommend the unit to family and friends.

I would also recommend calling up before your delivery date and asking about viewing the unit and meeting some of the staff.

Our daughter Isla was born in lotus room on MLBU 6/10/2013. It was truly a wonderful experience, I was listened to, supported and given excellent care. My partner Simon has commented many times to people how fantastic the staff and experience was. Many thanks to Raquel Lopez for being with me for the beginning of my labour and to the lovely Anna chapman for helping me bring my beautiful girl into the world.

Our baby girl was born in the water at the MLBU in May 2018. The facilities are great but it’s the midwives who really made this place fantastic. Caring, reassuring, listening to our wishes, they were amazing. I can’t rate the MLBU highly enough.

My husband and I wanted to thank all of the staff here for all of their wonderful support during the birth of our first baby, Daisy. We were extremely lucky to have Elisa as our midwife throughout. She was a wonderful, calming influence who helped see me through the unknown with such patience and care. Feel very blessed to have had such an amazing birthing experience, thank you. X

I was lucky enough to go on this unit when we had our little boy in April...staff were amazing, we were really well looked after and the rooms were comfy, private and that bit more personal. We were left to have our own time with baby while we were there, yet never felt help was far away and people often popped their head in to offer a drink, biscuits and sandwiches!!! We didn't quite get the full works (light, music, darkened room wise) as I was fully dilated on arrival so it was all systems go! But this was my first labour and thanks to the staff on this unit it couldn't have been made any easier or better....thank you :) xx

I had two beautiful mlbu water births, both were calm and beautiful positive experiences, no pain relief and delayed cord clamping.

Best of care and wonderful.

I recently had my Third baby, and had to have a planned c section, it was a totally different birth but in its own way special and all midwifes and my dealing with the nnuh midwifery service have been great and never too much trouble - especially after many issues during last pregnancy.

Would of loved anyone waterbirth and highly recommend this unit x

I gave birth to my 3rd child a week ago on the Midwife Led Unit. I originally had planned to birth at home but ran into some complications towards the end of my pregnancy which meant i needed to be at the hospital for any potential emergency. The birth could not have gone better, from arriving at the Unit me and my partner were made to feel comfortable to the very end. Our midwife - Emma was just brilliant, she allowed me to labor how i wanted in the pool, didn't push me to do anything i didn't want to do and always explained any suggestions she made to encourage labor to progress. My son was born safely with no complications.

Aftercare was great, Emma was efficient and prompt, she said when she would be back and never left us waiting around which can happen at hospital due to the high demand.

We had discovered whilst we were there that the midwives on the Unit raise alot of money off their own back for things like the mattresses, lighting, teabags, jam, bread...I'm sure the list is endless. This is all to give mums and dads to be the best experience and service they can. We were so touched by this.

I highly recommend birthing on the Unit and if i were to have anymore children i would use the Unit again. Thank you!

I gave birth to my 2nd little boy on August 19th 2017! I had such an amazing experience and would deffiantly recommend a water birth on MLBU! I can't remember the name of the midwife who delivered Bobby but had Tracey Savage look after me all day after birth! I got to spend the whole day on MLBU after birth which was lovely! I also had a lady I believe was called Emma the previous night who came to visit me after I gave birth to check how we was overall a amazing experience!! Xx
