The Monastery Manchester

About The Monastery Manchester

The award winning Monastery is a unique venue, famous for its stunning architecture. Perfect for events from dinners to weddings. Owned by a charitable trust.

The Monastery remains temporarily closed at the moment.

The Monastery Manchester Description

Designed by acclaimed architect EW Pugin for the Franciscan Order, the Church and Friary were the hub of the local community until the 1970s when housing clearances removed much of the congregation. Abandoned by the Friars in 1989 the buildings became derelict, prey to thieves and vandals, until a campaign was started to try and save them. The Monastery is now owned and operated by the Charitable Trust that raised over £. 5m to restore the buildings and return them to their rightful place at the heart of the local and wider communities.

‘A most inspiring visit and tour guide. My first impression on entering was breathtaking, it created a spine-tingling effect. Everyone involved in this restoration project deserves a medal. They should be delighted with what they have achieved.’

What an amazing venue nothing is too much for them. They made our day very special and we can highly recommend them. From start to finish they made us feel at ease. A flexible service and lovely people especially Kate McGovern who held our hands through the process and of course Claire on the day.

Thank you Mrs and Mr Walton x

We had a really unforgettable time on New Year's Eve - the atrmosphere was wonderful, the setting was superb, the food was delicious and the live music was top rate - exactly the right choice of songs and beautifully performed. Absolutely marvellous.

User

We got married here in May 2018 and had the most amazing day! The staff are all outstanding and super helpful. Our guests were in awe of the venue and loved the food too. Thanks Nancy and Claire xxx

User

We got married at The Monastery this weekend and are so pleased that we went for this venue, it was the most amazing day. Our guests were totally in awe of the Great Nave and the history behind the building, and the space worked brilliantly (so easy having the ceremony and reception in one place). The organising process was easy, with constant contact with Nancy, and on the day everything went smoothly and all staff knew what they were doing. We had the most amazing day, thank you.

WOW!

Struggling to find the words for this wedding venue since photographing it yesterday for Lizzie and Kyle's big day. As wedding photographers this place has it all - first of all there is the stunning hall which is absolutely beautiful. There are also gorgeous backdrops both inside and outside (so no need to worry about weather! - it decide to rain during the day while we were there but we had plenty of photography options available!).

The team are amazing - so kind and helpful! We felt welcome the moment we arrived. Lauren, Glen and the rest of the team were fantastic. I would highly recommend this wedding venue for any couples looking to book!

Recently had our wedding reception at the monastery and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The monastery team are wonderful can’t thank Nancy and Claire enough. We were so so happy

Thank you

User

Performed our singing waiters show for a wedding here today. Glen and the team were fantastic and helped us to blend in and made us feel very welcome. The venue is stunning and we hope to be back again very soon.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

To get married here was the absolute dream but unfortunately we had already booked a hotel in town however I would find myself still looking at pictures of the Monastery! At the beginning of 2017 I noticed the hotel had come off all social media... they had been bought out and they could no longer honour our wedding!

I was gutted but the stars aligned and The Monastery just went above and beyond for me, in fact from start to finish they were just incredible and nothing at all was too much trouble. From all the daft emails I would send to bobbing in on Sundays just so I could walk around, everyone was so so lovely and kind.

I'd like to take the time to thank Claire, Kate, Beth and Glen and even the lovely receptionist (who had to put up with me being in everyday in the run up to the big day!!) for just being so welcoming and accommodating. I'd especially like to thank Lauren and Nancy, I couldn't have done it without those two, incredible! A massive thank you!

I can't recommend this place enough for any weddings or events people may have in mind, or even for a chilled out Sunday for a look around and some cake.

We are so lucky to have such a gem on our doorstep and myself and my husband are even luckier to have had such a perfect day at the monastery.

Thank you everyone who made the day as wonderful as it was!

User

I was here for staff xmas party on Tuesday and can't fault anything except i was a bit cold at the beginning before dancing commenced. The bars were open all the time..fast efficient service. The food was served very quickly and was nice but don't think it was worth the money. The place is stunning, the dj was fab, we had a fantastic evening.

User

I literally can't thank you all enough!!!! The best day of our lives - you were absolutely outstanding! The help before hand, the prep on the day, the phenomenal top class service and accommodating our every need. You truly helped make our day so special! Lauren - you are out of this world! And Glen thanks so much for making sure the evening ran smoothly!

I am getting married at the Monastery next April and on Sunday my mum took 5/6 of my bridesmaids and me to the Monastery for afternoon tea and to have a look round! We had the most fabulous time! The food was unbelievable, we have one gluten free & dairy free and one gluten free, I was worried that the girls wouldn’t get anywhere near as much as everyone else or anything remotely exciting but they were AMAZING! The chef brought the food out himself and talked the girls through it! The sandwiches and cakes were beautiful we couldn’t even eat them all! We had the most wonderful time everyone we met was lovely and the service from the staff was impeccable nothing was too much, it made me even more excited for our wedding! Thank you everyone! Xx

Have been to Gorton Monastery several times on Pride of Gorton Awards and Mind, Body & Spirit events and for our works 'Christmas do'. The Monastery is a fabulous building with such a calming atmosphere. I was especially delighted when I knew the saints had be restored and are now back in their rightful place. I found the staff who work here on a regular basis to be polite, informative and friendly.

User

Attended an awards dinner last night fantastic venue and excellent food. The Ox cheek melted in the mouth

User

An inspirational building which leaves you calm and relaxed. A truly amazing hidden gem full of character - would strongly recommend a visit!!

Staff are welcoming and there's also a tea room and gift shop.

Time stands still and you can find peace in another world! Going back in August for the next event..........I'm hooked

User

A stunning venue, definitely worth a visit. We had a brilliant night for our works Christmas party and the 80's theme was great. I enjoyed the food, especially the onion soup! If I had any criticism to make, it would be for the waiting on staff to be a bit more cheerful and friendly. On the whole, a very enjoyable experience.

User

Had a really lovely night for our Christmas works do, stunning location, friendly staff, good music and dancing, let down by really awful food, I think its so bad to have so much waste due to poor quality food, no need!! So only because of the food I'm only giving 3 stars.

User

Omg! This was he 2nd time we'd been there and I must admit it was the worst. We waited a good 30 minutes between courses, and when we did get it it ws cold but ww were so hungry we ate what we had. The staff that cleared our table was really lacking in customer service leaving gravy stains all over the table. The venue only had about 15 tables so must have lost its favour from a couple of years earlier this certainly didn't feel as festive as it should have done. And at £45 per head was unbelievable. Would we go back not a chance.

User

I hate poor reviews but after organising a Christmas party for 22 of us following it being recommended after being blown away but the venue which looked spectacular I was shocked at how badly organised the set up was. We had to queue for 40 minutes to get served at the bar. The pop bars all closed until dinner was served well that was nearly two hours so by time our guest returned the soup was sat there cold. Table service never happened it was really poor. As the organiser I felt responsible for my friends looking fed up and deflated and overall disappointed. The waiting and security were really helpful and a lady called Lynette was very apologetic. I understand it isn't the staffs faukt but after spending so much money I wouldn't go back
