About The Monsoon At Brick Lane
Welcome to The Monsoon where our restaurant is located in the heart of the vibrant Brick Lane in London.
The Monsoon At Brick Lane Description
East End has been a cradle of migrants through various centuries and Brick Lane in particular has staged enriching performances of cultural transformations. In the wake of racial tensions and demonstrations against the National Front members, Shams started working at the famous Clifton restaurant in 1978. Borders of the pinstripe suit City boys, contrasted and collided with the grunge and homies of Tower Hamlets. The fortitude of plenty jostled with loose change and rich imagination of communities of artists, musicians and entrepreneurs. Bangladeshi community is one of those proponents that lent a defining experience of five senses in this setting called Brick Lane.
1994 Shams got featured in a short animation film Sweet & Spicy made by motiroti for Carlton TV. The film exposed fictionalisation of ‘authentic Indian cuisine’, catering predominantly to office workers from the city who wanted to eat cheap, eat exotic and quench vindaloo fire with chilled beers. A year later, again with Ali Zaidi of motiroti, Shams took part in an arts project called The Seed The Root, in which he and his family, served home cooked food as opposed to the usual menu catering to the British taste. The Bangladeshi vegetables and fish were around in the local shops but not served to general public. Audiences debated questions of assimilation and authenticity, encouraging him to extend the menu. In 1996 he started The Famous Curry Bazar and soon set up Café Bangla. Thanks to the collaboration with Ali, and encouragement of audiences, he denounced ‘ authentic Indian', and was the first to proclaim Bangladeshi cuisine. Almost a decade later, in his footsteps most of the restaurants on Brick Lane now proudly declaim themselves to be serving Bangladeshi cuisine. In 2001 he moved to the present day premises and Monsoon was born. It has expanded vertically and continues to tickle tastebuds longitudinally and latitudinally.

Whenever me and my friends go brick lane, there is no question about where we go for an Indian. Monsoon has been catering us since year 11 for a cheap curry and a good night. we are all now 22/23 years old and still can't go anywhere but here. The atmosphere the value for money and the customer service is just a few of the many reasons we still keep coming back. Thank you for a good night guys we will be back soon :) p.s. I had to write this review for free popadoms #worthit
Went to monsoon on Sunday with my daughters our waiter who's name was jay very helpful couldn't do enough for us the food was amazing will Deffo go back again
Went there on a day out recently with friends and had the most amazing meal with friendly service and a few free drinks so decided to try again yesterday when we was in the area and we were not disappointed it was as good as before if not better. Would highly recommend
We went to Brick Lane to experience a real curry after watching Cambridge United beat Barnet. We were talked in with a free round of drinks & 10% off Bill. Food was excellent £100 for six for 12 beers a curry & rice each,3 side dishes ,Nan's ,chappatis & poppadoms.Brilliant ending to a great day in London
We found it very good, where all this bangladeshi and Indian restaurants are located at Aldgate district. Fantastic lamb into red spicy sauce with garlic naan. Hightest rated one at Brick lane.
Very nice friendly staff, the food was beautiful.
Very friendly and great food! In the heart of busy Brick Lane, a lovely evening out!
The food was lovely and the staff were top notch, will definitely be heading back there.
Superb food and service was excellent. A table of 4 with 3 courses each & 2 pints of Cobra each & only £35 each. Good value
Really lovely meal, very well priced. The staff were lovely too
Really good curry at a really good price. Nice friendly service too. A go to restaurant on Brick lane.
Pukka chicken Vindaloo and lamb Korma. Decent prices and really friendly staff. Will defo go again.
Popped in NYE and the overall experience was excellent. The food was above average in my opinion and my tandoori sizzler was excellent. I would definitely recommend Monsoon and no doubt will visit again.
One of the best meals I've had in a very long time
Lovely food .. excellent service and free drink what more can you ask for
I’ll keep returning to this restaurant and order the same main course. The Royal Lamb is the dish I order every time I visit. I travel over 80 miles every time I wish to eat here, I’ve never been disappointed with the food or the service.
Great food, great service, great price! 5* all round!
Great food and service! Very welcoming staff and the Currys are fantastic!
Food brilliant, very friendly staff, complimentary drink & discount! Best curry I've had in years, thanks guys!
Fantastic food. Best Indian I have had for a long time. Service was great too. Will definitely return if in the area again.
Exelent sevice an tasty food. Good value, for the money 👍🏻
Exceptional value, pleasant service and spiced delights. We were offered a "special" lunchtime offer, two courses including rice or nan, £13 per person. Wow! Including small prawns and a beer. We blagged the poppadums and tipped large. Completely full of delicious Indian cuisine we tottered on along Brick Lane and the tube station. Will return to Monsoon when next exploring the East side of town.
Exceptional food, staff and ambience. Forget all the the other curry houses on Brick Lane. This is the ONLY one.
Best veggie thali ever x
Excellent service and tremendous food, even by the already high Brick Lane standards.
Excellent food, exceptional value, service and staff 5 star, would defiantly recommend this restaurant
Brilliant!
Best Indian on brick lane. Travel all the way from Harlow. Staff are excellent and couldn't do more. Price is exceptional and can't be matched. Please try here you won't be disappointed
All round great experience, service and food. Highly recommend
Lovely food, friendly environment, even at 2.15 in the morning. Would go again next time we are in the area.
Great food, good & friendly service, recommended.
Excellent service, great food! Beer was a bit ropey but all in all, 7 on 10! Button mushrooms bingo!
Cool location in the "bangladesh" quarter, nice staff, great flavours & food, symphatic and not too expensive... , highly recommended.
My friends and I were looking for a decent curry house en-route home and were harangued by 2 men (the Manager even came out to invite us in) sufficiently with the offer of 20% off. (Apparently they were rated #1 on trip advisor ) Once inside, we were virtually ignored for roughly 10 minutes, followed by a waiter serving us who knew nothing of the offer in question! However, we sampled some chicken curry dishes and samosas eventually. The samosas were average, not freshly prepared, possibly a frozen then deep fried batch which was very disappointing considering the brick lane samosas I've seen before! The chicken curry was relatively pleasant, the Bhuna, fruity and with fair flavour. We weren't offered poppadoms & sauces, or drinks. Service was average. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a special occasion but possibly a reasonably priced drop in for lunch or dinner. No discount was given! (Upon research they are #119 on trip advisor not #1!!)
Lovely food but being bluntly asked to leave table for next people not acceptable x poor cusomter service x
Good curry, we were overcharged by £40 on a bill of £78 so recommend you check your bill before making payment. Other than that good service and a decent Ruby
Food was average, bhaji and pasanda were bland, was persuaded to go in with offers of a free mango lassi for me and a pint for my hubby, ended up with half a Coke and half a beer!!! Very expensive
Check your bill !!!!!!! Over charged by £30 when questioned still over charged. Food was acceptable as was the service just be mindful of what you’ve ordered.
The worst Indian restaurant me and my friends have been to service was not to bad. had to wait for food, food was poor quality
Had to wait ages and food was average. We were offered a free alcohol drink but when given a choice it was only a white wine or red that taste more like vinegar than wine.
Waiter was funny and had good banter but that was all that was good apart from the company I shared that I took with me anyway.
