New bespoke coffee table for the bar area delivered this morning. @resin_edge absolutely excelled , the quality and finish are unbelievable, and the colours match great with our bar and furniture . 2 sides of the same wall ........this is the wall that separates the main bar from the function room.
In early May we have works scheduled to knock a great big gaping hole in it 💥!!
As regulars to the mowden will know , space and seating has become an issue at busier times , so we are going to create an extended bar area to accommodate all you lovely lot ....the new bar area will be furnished in line with the main bar and have extra screens for sport . This area will be for... drinking only , food will still be served exclusively in the main bar area and restaurant. We are hoping for completion by mid May!! Would like to thank all the staff yesterday for my baby shower and all they did for me. Would highly recommend.. so helpful and great service thank you so much!

We called by chance yesterday tea time with our two young grandchildren - we looked for a table but all were reserved however when we asked we were told we could have a table in the bar but there may be a little wait for food - there was no noticeable wait and the children's meals were brought first - always good.

Our food was excellent and service was brilliant .. Especially liked the interaction between the staff and our grandchildren. We will definitely return and pre-book a table next time - thanks again �

The food here is amazing and staff very welcoming as well as being dog friendly!



We come here often, sometimes late on a night after a dog walk for a few drinks or come for food during day/evening.



The food is always cooked to perfection. They go above and beyond for my fussy partner and as always we are always pleased with everything.



I highly recommend all the menu but even more so I love the peanut butter cheesecake! ��

The Mowden pub is exceptional. We had a grown up/young grandchildren birthday lunch there. Excellent service, excellent food and the young kids loved their 'grown up food', ate everything. What a pleasure it was to be there, nothing was too much for the staff. Of course the grown up ate all theirs too....., fabulous choices, well done. I can highly recommend you. Thank you

Sunday dinner is amazing fresh and full of flavour. Fish and pasta option for Sunday dinner which was also delicious. Friendly staff would highly recommend!

So just got back from The Mowden. Thanks to the lovely team there tonight. We all enjoyed our food. Highlights were, the mussels and chips and the fish and chips. The classic burger was very filling according to the youngest. I had Italian beer and the black sheep ale was delicious according to O.H.then it was pudding. Me and first born shared the brownie which was really lovely. Chris said his brioche bread and butter pudding was very good ( high praise). We all thought the place has a fab atmosphere as we ate outside and everything was fresh and tasty. We will be back, probably with Arnold �next time. Cheers. Helen Fidell

Just returned from a family meal and we all enjoyed the food even our super fussy 4 year old. The updated decor is also looking good.

Hopefully you can jazz up the beer garden in time for the summer months �����

My friend and I booked a table for a girly catch up last night; firstly - book. We went around 7:30 midweek and every table was taken!



We were shown to our table by a lovely youngish girl; we took forever and a day to order as it had been a strong week since I’d seen my friend and well... we had a lot of ground to cover. ��



Drinks orders were taken quickly - brilliant drink & wine list; beyond average pub menu in every way.



On to the food. This was the first time I’d dined since the new owners have taken over and my GOD have they taken it up 38 notches. This was restaurant quality food at pub prices. We shared a garlic chilli king prawn starter; they weren’t lying when they at king prawn; absolutely massive; perfectly cooked. Can’t tell you how I glad I am my gorgeous date doesn’t love prawns as I got to have most and would of eaten it twice over. Possibly 3 �



For mains I ordered the panko crusted plaice; plaice is one of the most delicate fish to cook and they nailed it. Perfectly cooked. It came with some of the best homemade chips I’ve ate and homemade tartar sauce. My friends chicken & chorizo linguini was equally gorgeous. Easily some of the best food we’ve had in Darlington.



Despite being busy - though quietened down later - the service was as good as the food. Attentive, friendly and fast.



Special mention goes to the lady who was in the bar; I can’t remember her name as that what 2 bottles of prosecco and a double gin does to me... but she was awesome. She told us she’s worked there for 10 years. I’d go again purely to see her; the last half hour of our visit was just my friend and I chatting to her at the bar. If my mum wasn’t so awesome I’d want her to be mine.



I’ll be coming time and time again here; brilliant night. Thank you �

Just been for an anniversary meal. It was so good. The service was excellent. Very attentive staff. Friendly and professional. The meal was perfect. Will definitely return.

I’ve had the pleasure of eating in the Mowden a number of times, always great service, always great food. Simon and his team have breathed life back into the Mowden and made it the best it has been in a long time.

I've just had one of the tastiest meals for a long time (obviously excluding the wife's cooking)...



We had three courses each and my double pork burger was tremendous.



It boasts an old friendly atmosphere you come to associate with British pubs and the fact we can take our dog inside only makes it better.



We'll certainly be returning time and time again

Had our wedding reception here and the food was amazing service was great very friendly and made our day that more special could not fault anything thank you ever so much for all the help and service truly amazing x

Had a family meal tonight & we agreed it is the best meal we have had in Darlington. We all ordered different meals & every single one was perfect. The waiting staff were lovely, we couldn't fault anything and we are very particular! We'll definitely be back when we visit - do you fancy expanding in Scotland? �

Dropped in for a spot of lunch ,the staff were faultless ,service faultless . Shown to a table ,menus offered ,drinks brought promptly and after a reasonable wait ,we were served well presented piping hot food . The food was cooked perfectly and for the price was good value ,I can recommend this location ,it had a great atmosphere and was full of people enjoying themselves .

Booked my daughters wedding here last Saturday and the staff were fantastic so was the food. It was the best brownie I have ever had!! Lovely venue highly recommend.

The bar meals and Sunday lunches also delicious-child and dog friendly

We throughly enjoyed our parmesans which we had for lunch and will definitely becoming back however we will have to remember to ask for the kids menu chips not to be pre salted

Sunday Lunch

We took our friends for lunch this afternoon Sunday 27th July 2017 This is the first time we have been since new Management. Staff were friendly and efficient..... Roast dinner was okish.... Outside the Mowden was horrible and dirty!!!! Cigarette butts everywhere, empay packets and plastic straw strewn round the outside seating are (Plastic straw are a danger to the environment) to have to walk through butts to get inside the pub is not a good first impression!!!! I am a smoker and I need to have ashtrays available not the lone on on the wall that was nearly overflowing!!!

Not impressed tonight! Been using this pub occasionally for years and had a party in the function room. Went in tonight with my husband at 9:30pm for a quiet drink to be met with three couples absolutely legless shouting and swearing. The noise and behaviour was totally unacceptable. When i commented to the barman about it he shrugged and said... well its bank holiday sunday isnt it? You could tell by the faces of the other drinkers in there that they werent impressed either! To be honest this has put us off coming in again. You expect this drunken behaviour in some town pubs or young peoples bars but not in a nice estate pub establishment. �
