We just spent two nights here (May 14 and 15 2018), and it was absolutely lovely. Clean, well-tended site. Attentive owner. Good-sized hard-standing pitches and well-cut grass. Even though it is almost next to the A66 it was very quiet and peaceful. Lots of birds live on-site, and the early morning chorus was superb. There are no toilets or showers, so you have to be self-sufficient, but the chemical point was spotless and well-designed. No electricity on-site means that there are no ultra-bright lights shining all night so it is very restful. In the village the Unicorn pub was nice (great desserts!). The walking in the area is very scenic (eg God's Bridge, Pennine Way etc).
This is a lovely campsite, very well maintained by friendly owners. Best of all it's surrounded by fantastic countryside and lots of wildlife. We were so happy to see and hear lapwing and curlew in the fields all around, and the resident oystercatchers too.
Loved it! Thank you Ant
If you are a member of the Caravan & Camping Club and looking for an amazing Certificated Site near Bowes/Barnard Castle (Just off the A66) then look no further. This site is outstanding and owned/managed by Ant Hobson one of life's really nice guys. Nothing is too much trouble to Ant. I've just had 4 nights on this site (Dec 18-21). Ant is continually improving facilities, and has great plans for the future of this site as funds permit. Attention to detail and quality craftsmanship is clear to see. Lots of wildlife around the site too. I will most certainly be returning to this site, and would like to wish Ant every success for the future.
Fab little site, loads to do in close proximity.
