UPDATE
Having had the chance to look at the impact of Wednesday morning's fire with our insurers, we've now a little more clarity on where we're at. Although we have not yet any certainty on the background to the fire, what we do know is that all of our fire safety systems worked extremely well and contributed to everyone getting out of the building safely.
It's likely that we'll now be closed for much of the summer for eating, drinking and sleeping, with most of the damage ...to the heartbeat of the building that our guests rarely see: the utility area and the kitchen. More superficial damage through the rest of the building and into many bedrooms will also need addressing.
If you have bookings with us, the team are working through contacting you one by one, but that does take time on a site that is a bit short of telephony and electrics. Please do begin to make alternative arrangements: if you'd like a list of alternative hotels or restaurants in the area, just drop us a line.
If you're able to support us by visiting our sister inn, The Gurnard's Head, on the other side of the moor, we know you'll love what they are doing there. I ate there on Thursday night and it was very special.
We'd like to send huge thanks and love to all of those of you who have sent us supportive messages, whether by FB or email. It really does matter to the team.
We'll publish further updates as and when we have something interesting to say. Stay tuned.

In spite of what's been an very upsetting and difficult few days at The Old Coastguard, our EDS Social - Team Walk will still take place this Saturday, meeting outside The OC at 10am to set off across the moor to our sister inn The Gurnard's Head for Pimm's on the lawn at around 3pm.
In the name of team spirit and solidarity we'd love to see as many of you there as possible. ☺️ Don't forget your picnic, water bottle, wet weather gear & suncream. 🙌

We're hugely upset to have had a fire at The Old Coastguard overnight. Thankfully, our systems appear to have held up well and all guests are safe and sound. We send our apologies to them for having to disturb their night.
It'll take a day or two to establish what has been relatively significant damage and the work that has to be done to put things back as they should be.
As a result, we will be closed (bedrooms, bar & restaurant) until further notice, a period that we ho...pe is no more than a few days. We are taking guidance from the fire authorities at the moment.
If you have existing bookings with us, we will be contacting you as soon as possible today (starting with today's bookings) so that you have all the information you need. We're so sorry to upset your plans.
If you are in the area and would like somewhere good to eat, we can recommend our sister inn, The Gurnard's Head (obviously), just 20 minutes away. 01736 796 928. Or, more locally, The Ship (to whom go massive thanks for their support on the night) and 2 Fore Street in Mousehole, The Shore in Penzance or The Mexico Inn in Long Rock.
Our telephones (01736 731 222) are not currently working so, if you need to contact us, please send us an email at enquiries@oldcoastguardhotel.co.uk (non-urgent) or edmund@eatdrinksleep.ltd.uk (urgent). Or drop us a message via FB.

I'VE . GOT . YOUR . BACK
This June, we run our first ever I've Got your Back campaign across EATDRINKSLEEP, championing the importance of teamwork and our support for each other in what can be a challenging working environment. The campaign will focus on those small things we can do to make a difference: checking-in with the person working next to you to ensure all is ok and taking a moment out.
I've Got your Back culminates in Social Sunday at The Old Coastguard, our own p...articipation in a national day of fund raising organised by Hospitality Action, the only charity specifically set up to look after the interests of the 3+ million people who work in the sector.
An afternoon on the lawns at The Old Coastguard: music from great local bands, a barbecue and a charity raffle. We'll also have a 'Social Session' beer on tap throughout June, with 50p per pint going to the Hospitality Action.
