Interesting old world feeling pub in the heart of Bowness that is well worth a visit. The food we had was basic pub grub, but the prices were the lowest we found in town. Only real complaint for me was that the Cumberland Sausage could have done with a little less mash and a lot more gravy. Beer was well kept. I would go back.

Me and my partner had a meal here this eve. My partner got the steak pie needless to say it was perfectly obvious it had been reheated in the microwave so all the gravy had dried up in the dish! The vegetables were cold! And frozen not fresh at all. I had the burger and chips which was all made from frozen. None of it was fresh. The chips were more like McCain oven chips that I would have at home. I couldn't believe it when the bar staff collected the plates and didn't even ask if everything was ok with the meals, nothing just complete silence which said it all Really! It was a complete waste of money! Really poor quality! I have had better food made at home! Last time we eat there about a couple of years ago it was really nice but it's gone downhill since last time we eat in there! We won't be returning! It was appalling!

The food was beautiful and I thought a reasonable price for the Lake District. The staff were very friendly and the pub itself was lovely.

Little old pub serving Theakston and other guest ale, not too bad, bit of a change from the other up market places. Prices slightly high like everywhere else, but that's the lake district.

In this pub today. Had just spent £25 on lunch and drinks for two. Overheard the barman telling other customers he had to accept Scottish currency as he was so close to the border. Needless to say we will not be back. Why do some people south of the border still think this is acceptable. He was quick enough to take our money.

Good beer, atmosphere, music, service and above all food..... We have searched for a proper pub with proper food in the lake district and now have found it.......

A very warm welcome at this pub and nothing was too much bother for them the food was excellent and a very good portion

User

Lovely cosy pub with great meal portions and prices

Food was lovely. Family meal not too expensive. Staff did refuse to serve me with a shandy for my 17yr old son saying it's the law. Could do with retraining as he can drink when eating a meal with an adult especially as only wanted a shandy!
