The Original Biltong Company

We are producers and purveyors of fine, artisanal Biltong snacks which are gluten-free, allergen free and with no added MSG and Nitrates.

“I grew up in South Africa hunting, fishing and cooking meats on the braai (open fire BBQ).

From a young age my Ma and Pa would show me how to prepare the meat for curing and we would make Biltong together.

We would take the bags of Biltong to Rugby matches and to school as a snack fit, for an active growing boy.

From a young age, I was educated (taught) how to hunt for the pot in the most humane way possible, always respecting the animal and the meat. We would butcher the meat together and my Ma and Pa would show me how to create our family blend of spices, which we would rub into the meat before hanging it to dry. It always brings back fond memories of a simpler time, filled with folklore stories about our ancestors and respect for the food we eat.

When I moved to London as a young man I would make my own personal amount of Biltong at the weekend in a homemade dryer as I missed the flavours of home. I was constantly bringing in taster’s for my colleagues and friends at their requests. They were always pushing me to make more and telling me I should sell it.

And so The Original Biltong Company was born. ”
