Soldier On is inspired by the stories writer/director Jonathan Lewis (writer of multi award-winning Our Boys) workshopped with British servicemen and women and their families over a five year period. The play returns to London following a sold out national tour to commemorate the end of the First World War.
The result is “as funny as it is heart-breaking” and lifts the lid on the vastness and complexity of Britain’s often overlooked and incredibly broad military community, t...he wives, partners, mothers, children and, of course, the servicemen and women themselves, and how they cope with the emotional, mental and physical effects and stresses of modern military service and its after effects.
In a bold initiative, and putting the play’s premise into action, the cast includes ex-service personnel as well as professional actors from Producer Amanda Faber’s Award Winning Theatre Company, The Soldiers’ Arts Academy cic.
The mixed cast brings a veracity and a genuine emotion seldom achieved in theatre. Audiences say they cannot tell who is an actor, or who is the veteran, and that question has them gripped from start to finish.
The play employs music, dance and mixed media. It is by turns viscerally realistic, shockingly funny, and intensely emotional.
The veterans and serving military personnel connected to the production are members of The Soldiers’ Arts Academy cic. This is a Community Interest Company which provides a platform for the arts for serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces and their families to enable them to recover, to retrain and to find work in their chosen profession. THE IRON WOMAN Adapted from the novel by Ted Hughes Book & lyrics by Mike Kenny Music & lyrics by Pippa Cleary
... “I am Iron Woman and you are wondering why I have come.”
As Lucy walks home from school one day, a fearsome figure emerges from the marsh. The Iron Woman is furious about the pollution caused by a waste factory and intends to teach the townspeople a lesson. Just how far will she have to go to make people listen? With the help of Lucy, Hogarth and his famous friend, The Iron Man, an unforgettable story unfolds.
Celebrated children’s author, poet laureate and eco-activist Ted Hughes wrote this environmental morality tale as a sequel to his much-loved The Iron Man. Hailed as “a superb modern myth” (The Independent), The Iron Woman remains an urgent and passionate cry against pollution today.
Adapted for the stage for the first time by Olivier Award-winning writer Mike Kenny (The Railway Children) with music by acclaimed songwriter Pippa Cleary, this magical musical play is told through the eyes of children for children. At times spine-tingling, at times hilarious and certain to make a lasting impression.
A workshop production directed by Luke Sheppard (Associate Director, Matilda the Musical – RSC, West End and Broadway)
Age recommendation: 8+
Ticket Prices Full Price £8 Concessions £6 Children £4

User

What a great little theatre. We saw The Barricade Boys in the Studio. It was like having a private concert. The show was fab. Popular songs from Les Mis, interspersed with Christmas songs & a guest appearance. Would recommend both The Barricade Boys & The Studio at The Other Palace!

User

We enjoy both spaces in the theatre, with the opportunity to see top quality productions and performers, often new writing or lesser-known pieces. Sunday in the Park with George was stunning ( such young talent); La Strada was mesmerising, Whisper House so well performed with a stunning set......a place for real theatre- lovers.

User

We absolutely loved every second of Heathers tonight. Talented cast and in this awesome theatre, the atmosphere was incredible. Hope this show does another run...... totally brilliant

User

Took my daughter to Heathers, she loved it .The show was excellent, Great theatre. ..would definitely recommend.

User

The new theater is absolutely great. Fantastic to have a beautiful contemporary space dedicated to new works. Sad to report that "Whisper House" is one of its works in progress gone quite wrong. Dismal on all accounts; book, music, acting, direction. Let's hope for something more worthy next.

User

The Prom Queen was such a lot of fun! Well done to you all for getting it together so quickly.

User

Small theatre so you feel part of the show. Excellent bar attached and lovely polite staff

User

Saw the Whisper House last night... last minute choice of performance for a Tuesday evening! Great little theatre and fab show from very talented cast. Can also highly recommend the food upstairs at the "other naughty piglet"

User

Saw Whisper house last night! Amazing show and awesome venue. Had amazing seat in a second row but the way the theatre is laid out don't think there is a bad seat anywhere. Before the show i have spent some time in a bar area having cofee its really lovely and relaxing and there was a guitarist entertaining people before the show on acoustic guitar singing some good songs. Overall excellent experience. Definitely would recommend anyone to go see a show there

User

Saw Eugenius last night. Loved every minute of it. Lovely theatre and friendly staff.

User

Saw Christie When in Britney Spears the Cabaret and it was the perfect venue for it! Restricted seating was worth every penny. Had an amazing time. Even the bar area is beautiful and modern. Can't flaw this theatre at all. And the show is fantastic!!!

User

La Strada after Fellini...fantastic and recommended, full of talent, poetry comedy music and pathos .. get the cheap seats and be one foot away from bulging eye intensity.... also experience for the first time in the theatre the movement of cool air as the actors swirl by.... never a possibility in the cinema ..inspiring and truly wonderful!x

User

Just been to watch Eugenius and it was fantastic, thank you for a brill night x

User

It’s a great theatre, everyone can see, but leg room is a bit tight if you have long legs. Big Fish was superb, an excellent engaging production.

User

Had a wonderful afternoon watching a 'work in progress' of the musical 'Bonnie & Clyde' in the Studio - no costumes, props, actors holding scripts so you had to use your imagination. It was hard to believe that rehearsals had only been going for a week - felt there was real chemistry between the actors playing Bonnie & Clyde. Music was provided by a guitarist, pianist & violinist who complemented the voices on stage beautifully - would love to see this as a full production - well done for taking a risk!!

User

Great venue and excellent performance from Derek Nash - Some Kind of Winderful.

User

Eugenius, what a fabulous evening of escapism; Sing along fun with references to my youth and inspired casting. Loved it!

User

Eugenius deserves 10 stars! It was absolutely fabulous XXX we'll be going again next week! Yay!!!

User

Big Fish was absolutely stunning. We laughed, then we cried, then we cried some more. Wonderful performance by Kelsey Grammer and the cast, great songs and spot-on choreography. Thank you to all who brought this story to life.

Our first visit to The Other Palace too. Lovely theatre just a short walk from Victoria Station with comfortable seating and a clear view of the stage.
