About The Oxford

Proudly family owned Pub, lovers of traditional food with exciting twists, real ale, cold beer, good wine & interesting spirits.

We love what we do.

The Oxford Description

Opened by Alison & Phil in February 2013 alongside Thomas, Ria & Ella, The Oxford is a family pub set at the foot of the Pennines serving fantastic food, fine wines & real ales in a beautiful building promising welcomes as warm as our log fires. Over 150 years old, the former Oxford Turning circle has historically been a thriving public house. In it’s earlier years The Oxford was the place to be, a beautiful cocktail bar & snug frequented by the movers & shakers of Rochdale serving oysters alongside it’s famous seven spirit rainbow cocktails. Nowadays Alison & her team have transformed the pub into a family friendly pub for all seasons, with a huge beer garden & super chilled lagers served in glasses fresh from the freezer for the summer along with cosy fire places & beautiful red wines to see you through the winter months. Straight from work or as somewhere special for the weekend The Oxford is a welcome break that always offers something different for those who seek it or a bit of tradition for those who don’t.

Alright beautiful people,
We're in the market for full time front of house staff, decent pay plus tips. Experience is essential. The work is hard & you'll have to work weekends but there's staff wine.
Drop off a CV or giz a bell if you're keen.
... Please note if you’re heading back to Uni in September this probably isn’t for you.
Cheers, Team McNeeney x

So here’s a turnout for the books, Ria’s been branching out & giving our Tom a lift with his latest video, to be fair...she didn’t do half bad!

We did a whole weekend of seafood specials to celebrate that our mate Dan's Fishop will be mooring up at the pub every Friday afternoon between 1:30pm & 2:30pm, not only that but we'll be making a splash with new specials every week cooked up with his dreamy fish. Selling the freshest seafood straight from Fleetwood, Dan is already a familiar sight in Littleborough & Norden but now he's bringing his beautiful fish right to our doorstep & honestly, we couldn't be happier. So, ...to kick off we had a bumper weekend of seafood loveliness using some of Dan's incredible stock & we all think this could be the start of something beautiful! We've knocked up fabulous hot smoked salmon, jersey royal & grape salads, king prawn & crab linguini & devilled whitebait. From parma ham wrapped monkfish on a samphire risotto, to dreamy coconut & coriander mussels, king prawn katsu curry & smoked haddock rarebit topped with a runny egg & the biggest scollops we've ever seen with some chive mash & crispy smoked bacon, what a guy, what a weekend, what a catch!
Also, kudos to Olivia Frain for doing a boss job on the specials board.
And why not check out our Tom's facebook page (Tom McNeeney) for new recipes featuring Dan's seafood for you to try at home!

Because of the England game we'll be stopping food at 6pm this Wednesday. Sorry. It's Coming Home!

On behalf of anyone caught up in our unfortunate power cut this evening we honestly can’t apologise enough. Although these things are completely out of our control this is the first time in over five years we’ve had to close our kitchen mid service and if there was any other option we’d have happily taken it. It was a horrible choice to make but one that had ultimately been made for us.
A brief evening of candles & absolute blitz spirit was all fun & games but normal service will resume tomorrow with hot food & cold beers back on the menu!!
Cheers for now beautiful people!

Happy Father’s Day to the main man himself.
When Big Phil took on a pub 5 years ago who knew he’d end up being a surrogate dad to all the ridiculous people who work here too!
If he’s not swearing at things he’s building, you can see our Phil getting about in his van, or mooching about his happy place (B&Q). You can be sure that even when you can’t see him, nothing’s more certain that he’s helping the pub keep on running smoothing by stressing himself right out, or worse sti...ll, dishing out pickled eggs at the bar.
So from your own kids and all the one’s you’ve picked up over the years, cheers Big Phil, don’t ever change!

So it's about time we finally give in & accept that summers here so as well as our dreamy new summer menu (out now) we're bringing back an old favourite for a run out.
Yep for a couple of months we're going to bring Oxford Tapas out of retirement but this time only during beer garden hours. Our tapas for two was always a hit so it only seems right that now the suns back, so is it. Available for meat eaters or vegetarians alike this selection of the kitchens best nibbles is the best way to enjoy a few beers & a graze in the garden this summer. A different surprise board every day based on what's fresh & what the kitchen's cooking up that day, that sounds like summer to me.
Available from tomorrow (so obviously it's going to lash it down)

Sad times today at The Oxford, tonight we say goodbye to our Roxy after five & a half glorious years before she goes off to start her incredible new job.
Baby Roxy has been with us since the day we opened, she’s seen every one of our ups & our downs and she’s stuck with us through it all. She’s held us up when we’ve lost people & we’ve picked her up when she’s leathered. We couldn’t have asked for a better friend through this journey & it’s been a pleasure to have her & her ...ugly, smelly brothers work with us here. There’s always going to be a place in our hearts & a drink on the bar for our wonderful Roxanne.
Tonight we’re going to put on some flats & a sequin dress & sing some Cher on karaoke, really, really badly because that it’s almost certainly the most Roxy thing you can do & we encourage all of you to do the same!
So ladies & gents, I give to you, Roxanne Matthews. The chief dispenser of good vibes, dog enthusiast, tequila fiend, barmaid extraordinaire, fierce friend & beautiful woman. We were so very lucky to be part of your life & we can’t wish you any more luck & love in the future.

So for the last few weeks we’ve been busying ourselves about coming up with our best ever new menu. We’ve cooked up some super peng new additions & we’re chuffed to bits with some dreamy changes we’ve made, changes like....
A whole section dedicated to a world of open sandwiches & salads with smaller portion sizes but bigger flavours. Summery combos like roasted pepper, olive & creamy feta or buffalo mozzarella with Parma ham topped with actual, factual truffle. Because we fa...ncy.
A whole world of hangover cures & beer garden essentials. Our southern fried chicken in a basket with proper chicken shop gravy & mozzarella sticks have been bumped up from specials board all stars to permanent fixtures. And we even added some proper ropey but life saving fries with melted cheese & chicken shop gravy to the menu. Because chips cheese & gravy is for life, not just in planet USA at 4am. Testify!
We even came up with more veggie options! Cool vegetarian friendly future favourites like our triple decker veggie club sandwich & a spicy little crispy dal burger topped with fresh coriander and habanero & mango sauce. This summer don’t just look green darlings, eat it! We’ve stocked up on avocados cos it’s time to glow up.
And finally...
PROPER. FRICKIN. CHIPS!!! Yes lads, we’ve been chopping, we’ve been chipping & we’re beaming with how these home cooked bad boys have come out. So that’s our final promise, proper chips forever. Because you’re worth it.
Spring/Summer with Team McNeeney, it’s the only collection you need.

Some of you might know our Tom, Ali’s son who looks after the kitchen at the pub. He’s been the one responsible for some of the most ambitious theme weekends in publand, our pretty special buffets & outside catering & the odd decent special on the board over the last five years.
Anyway, Tom’s started his own YouTube channel so you can see what else he makes when he’s not cooking here, check it out!

Myself and my girlfriend recently moved to Whitworth and we love how this place is just so consistently good! The staff, the food, the atmosphere and the facilities are always spot on which is why we struggle to ever want to go anywhere else. Visited last night and had a perfectly cooked steak and the most amazing fish pie. Keep up the good work all at The Oxford and we will keep coming back :)

My wife Karen and I have visited The Oxford on a number of occasions. There is always a pleasant atmosphere about the place, all the staff (sorry all the team McNeeney) are extremely helpful and friendly. We have managed to eat our way through a fair sample of the menu, and as yet, nothing has been a disappointment, everything is very well made and tastes delicious.

User

Lovely dining experience. Atmosphere very warm and welcoming. Varied menu, well cooked and hot when served. Plenty to choose from and served by very helpful and courteous waiter/ waitress. Gin of the month was superdooper and I had more than my fair share. Very reasonable price when the bill arrived. We left full to bursting and a little wobbly, after a great meal. Thank you

Love it here! Went on date night with Jon so I could treat him to some tea. The food was absolutely gorgeous and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Left feeling extremely satisfied. Thank you so much Tom and the team

User

went for a family meal yesterday, the garlic mushrooms are the best I've ever had - everyone commented how nice the food was.

User

Nice meal at the Oxford with my friend. Had a glorious gin and tonic on the side in a nice big bulb glass with lots of ice and lemon. It certainly makes a difference. Really enjoyed the cheese and onion pie as always. It's also great to have the chance to get a small portion as one's appetite isn't always huge. Full marks for this! I was so impressed I had to go again later in the week. On that occasion with my husband who of course had the full monty chicken and chorizo pie. He said it was delicious. If I had a recommendation it would be for ordinary chunkier chips, not twice cooked but this is just a personal preference.
