About The Oxford Academy

A "Good" school with "Outstanding" leadership in your local community - Ofsted September 2016

The Oxford Academy Description

We provide good teaching, small classes, excellent intervention support for literacy and numeracy, reinforced by regular assessments. We make sure we know every student well from the minute they start at our school. Pastoral support at The Oxford Academy is strong and behaviour is of the highest standard. We also work closely with our families and our community to ensure the best possible outcomes for their children.

Although we have experienced some difficult times since we opened as The Oxford Academy in 2008, we are now starting to make significant improvements. The recent Ofsted inspections have noted the good behaviour around the Academy, that teaching is now improving and that the school is effectively managed. We are now determined to build on this and we are very confident that student progress will improve significantly in the forthcoming years.

At The Oxford Academy we insist on high standards for staff, students, parents and governors, whilst at the same time we ensure that there is a caring environment that allows our students to achieve beyond expectations.

Please come and visit us, we will be delighted to see you.

We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved this year. They are a wonderful group of young people and it has been a pleasure to support them throughout Y11 and see them grow in confidence and show such resilience and determination to succeed. We wish you all the luck for the future.

After being made aware of the fantastic Red Box Project by a local group of NCS students, we are now on a mission to support every young woman during their period. Period Poverty is where young women often miss school because they cannot afford to buy sanitary items during their period. Our aim is to make sanitary items available to those who need it within The Oxford Academy so that their education does not suffer.
We have set up a separate page for all of our updates and information on how to support and donate, so please like it to keep up to date with how the project is going ❤️

It is with great pleasure that we are able to let you know that after two days of intensive interviewing, we were able to offer the headship of The Oxford Academy to Andy Hardy, who enthusiastically accepted it straight away. We are very fortunate to be in a position to appoint someone with so much relevant experience, including headships in Luton, Birmingham and Bristol. Andy is able to take up the position in September so there will be no need for interim arrangements. We hope you will join us in welcoming Mr Hardy in September.

We have just donated another 2 big boxes full of items to the CEF! You can donate items for the Community Emergency Food Bank to us at The Oxford Academy, and to OX4 during the evenings, weekends and school holidays too. Every little helps!

The Oxford Academy are very proud of our OUFC Advance programme this academic year. Both teams finished their respective seasons with 2-2 draws this week with the ‘A’ team having the privilege of playing at Stadium MK against Milton Keynes. The ‘B’ team played against Oxford City yesterday, performing brilliantly.
The ‘A’ team ended up playing 21 games in the National Football Youth League, whilst the ‘B’ team played 15 games across the AOC and Oxfordshire FA competitions. We will now be working on preparations for the next academic year, with our third and final trial being held on Wednesday 30th May.
If you would like to find out more about how playing for the team and studying at Advance Sixth form works, please email advance@theoxfordacademy.org.uk

This support network is key for young carers to achieve their potential within school, and to ensure that they feel supported.
If your child is a young carer, please can you encourage them to come to a drop in session on Thursday 24th May in the Old School Cabin (in the courtyard near the Bistro) at second break. There will be cake and questionnaires to help set up the young carers support networks within the school for September onwards.
This support network is key for youn...g carers to achieve their potential within school, and to ensure that they feel supported. If you have any questions, please email youngcarers@theoxfordacademy.org.uk

Sixth Formers from The Oxford Academy are taking part in Young Enterprise, an international competition for young business start-ups. The team set up as a social enterprise, tackling an issue close to their hearts by aiming to raise awareness of the drug-related crime in the local community. “Think.” was born… To date, Think. have delivered educational workshops in schools an also worked closely with Thames Valley Police to gain insight into the issue, develop their business... ideas and receive guidance and mentoring. Think. also had the opportunity to reach thousands of people in the community by performing their song “Time to Inspire” at an Oxford United home game. April 19th saw the City finals take place at Unipart in Cowley. This was a tense event, as TOA had not had a team progress further than this round in previous years. There was a high standard of competition from all teams who entered, but Think managed to win three out of the five available awards that evening, including Best Business Plan, Best Customer Service and importantly, Runner Up Company of the Year which secured their place in the County Finals. Not resting on their laurels, the team needed to make a quick turnaround to prepare for the county finals which was a week away. This round saw the top two teams from all the county areas attending and the bar was set even higher for the standard of businesses on show. With a successful sales-pitch to the audience in the bag, confident team interview and well-presented trade stand, it was just down to the judges to make their verdicts…. During a tentative award-giving process, two awards were left to announce; both of which would be a ticket to the Regional Finals. Think had done it though and won County Runner Up Company of the Year, a fantastic achievement and a true acknowledgement of the validity of their mission and their business. On to Buckingham University in June to face up to the next round of the competition, and this time, the team have their sights set firmly on taking 1st place to the Nationals.

Fabulous dancing to challenging music. I love expressive dancing. It makes it a bit difficult to go back to jive though

A great venue, for meetings - with the added bonus of a glimpse into what the students do there.
