Been a few times ... Usually very slow bar service but on Thursday eve was served (food and drinks) by a barman who was beyond helpful.... Made such a massive difference to the eve. Don't know his name, but he was in his twenties, slim with dark hair and beard. Don't let him go pls Pear Tree... He Shld be training yr other staff!

Used to be great and with a good choice of well-kept ales. Then I think they gave up, I had to stop going after 4 really poor pints from different barrels on consecutive days.

Do real beer properly or don't do it at all. And funnily enough, since I stopped going to the Pear Tree I only heard two conversations about it, and they were both about how bad the beer was.

Still worth going there, as long as you're a lager and Jaeger drinking Essex Boy wannabe. You'll fit right in.

Staff were really lovely but it was let down by a comedy of errors.

Firstly, we went to watch the six nations. It's advertised on the sign outside, there are six nations flags inside, and we asked the bar staff beforehand if it would be showing at 3 to which they said yes. 3pm comes and goes and no sign of it so we ask them and they now seem to be unsure if they'll show it as people are watching the football. We pointed out to them that we only stayed and bought drinks as we were told it was going to be on, also pointed out there are approximately 8 or so TVs which are on different loops so if it could just go on one set of TVs that would be fine.

It then seemed to take forever to sort out what seemed like a relatively simple problem, and by the time it was sorted we missed about a quarter of the whole match.

This problem could probably be solved by making the table area opposite the bar a designated six nations area, put the flags on the ceiling in that area, and signs on each of those tables saying 'FYI these tables will be showing the six nations'!

The food was pretty poor as well, the beef options were unavailable because the beef had been recalled and the salad that came was just steak, lettuce, and onion because the cabbage and carrot 'comes as a pre-grated package' and they had run out. Bearing in mind that there is a supermarket across the street it's kind of unacceptable that you can't grab a bag of carrots and a cabbage

As I mentioned the staff were nice and did give us complimentary drinks to apologise but it didn't make up for a really bad first impression of the venue which I now wouldn't return to and wouldn't recommend.

Has massive potential, just needs more assertive staff to designate different sports areas and to use initiative to grab simple things from the supermarket which is 5 mins up the road

User

Brilliant staff just not enough of them! I have edited this review from 4 to 2stars because of a certain member of staff who is rude and totally unprofessional. 3 people at the bar totally ignored by her, when we brought this to her attention she said 'I don't bloody well have to put up with people like you telling me what to do!' Nice so we left for another pub!

User

We went just before Christmas. My food was in edible, my son's steak overdone and cold and it took them 1 hour 20 minutes to serve my husband a burnt meat pie.

User

Shocking place! Waited over an hour for food only to be told there was one chef working, once the food come we were then told that there was no garlic bread (lasagne and garlic bread with salad) when asked why we wasn’t told we just got a shrug of the shoulders and “because I didn’t know” - everything was over cooked as completely inedible. Complete and utter waste of money! Oh and to top it all off we were given children’s cutlery to eat with!

User

Just awful slow service... half the items are never on the menu and having to wait for over 30 mins for a plate of nachos in an empty pub is just laughable!

If you can't be bothered to offer a good service and product please close your doors and let someone come in that can offer a better more professional and welcoming atmosphere... I believe the people of Purley deserve something better!

Typical stonegate pub establishment... you just have to look at the state of the goose on the market in croydon!
