Yesterday this would have been a five star review but this evening I had a meal that resulted in me sitting on the toilet and 'evacuating myself' for 20 minutes.

My family and I eat here regularly as my in-laws live in the village. I called them out of courtesy because we've always got on well with the staff (I actually felt embarrassed to call).

I was passed on to the landlady whom I don't think I've met. The first words I said were, "I'm just calling to give you the heads up as a regular customer - I'm not fishing for anything but...". The response I received was somewhere between dismissive, disbelieving and defensive: "All our food is fresh. We get new stocks in on Monday so nothing will have gone off." This point was laboured even as I politely mentioned that expired food isn't the only cause of contamination. I even hoped to soften her by saying it won't stop me coming back and this sort of thing can happen anywhere. It didn't help and in the brief conversation we had, she got even more blatant in her disbelief/disinterest.

The reason I've decided to put this review up is simply because at no point was there anything approaching an apology. It's clear that I had a meal at the Penny Farthing and it gave me diarrhoea. Maybe it's a policy to never accept liability but the landlady (I don't know here name as she didn't bother to introduce herself) stands in stark contrast to the otherwise excellent staff.

Even now I don't have the heart to rate the default 1 star for a single bad experience that many people would do...

The food at here is absolutely amazing! However it was a little while coming out. The whole place has a lovely atmosphere and is well presented. The only downside is some of the staff. Mostly they were pleasant and efficient however some members of staff were not very welcoming, no smiles and a sense of detachment which made you question their reason for working in such an environment. Overall however, very nice and I shall return.

Fantastic pub. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Friendly welcoming staff and delicious food. Plus a nice little children's play section outside.

We went for a meal on Saturday night with our son and daughter in law the place was very busy.We were disappointed that we were not spoken to on arrival by anyone there did not appear to be anyone in charge. We were eventually asked if we had booked a table and were told they would be with us in a minute .We were then asked if we wanted any drinks and were shown to our table and the menus were just thrown onto the table and we were told they would be back to take our order soon. All of that did not give the best first impression. The redeeming factor was the food it was lovely we all enjoyed it very much and it was a very reasonable price.I think front of house needs attention as the first impression for me sets the night of to a very good start.

I love visiting here. All the food is delicious and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Not to mention the desserts. So much choice and every one is so tasty all freshly made. I have to keep visiting to try them all.
Definitely worth a visit. My favourite place.
