There are two basic categories of editing, which of them best suits your writing depends upon your requirements as a writer and the level of work involved.

•Proofreading – Our proofreading service is a detailed check of your document in British Standard English of spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence contextualisation (syntax), formatting problems, inconsistencies and repetitive wording

•Copy-editing – This involves making suggestions and comments, asking questions to ensure clarity and consistency (e. g. definitions, structure and organisation, argument), and making editorial changes that will improve the overall quality and readability of your work. Also to ensure that any use of the English idioms are correct


The ‘Track Changes’ facility on Microsoft Word will be used so you can accept or reject the changes made as you see fit (Note: this facility is only used when copy-editing work, or otherwise specifically requested by the client). The comments facility will be used where the proofreader wishes to bring an issue to your notice, for instance, if a sentence is incomprehensible or if the proofreader wishes to comment on or suggest appropriate amendments to the language.


Proofreading
If your work is already polished and simply requires a final check for errors, then the proofreading service is recommended. This is the fastest service The PerfeKt Word offers – ideal if you have an imminent deadline and need a last-minute check for mistakes.

Cost: from just £8 per thousand words.


Copy-editing
In addition to correcting basic errors, The PerfeKt Word will make revisions on matters of grammar and narrative flow. We will suggest changes to improve the clarity of your work, adding a comment, question or suggestion for you to take further if you wish. Improving the overall structure and effectiveness, as well as simply the ‘correctness’, of any written work is the function of copy-editing. A final proofread will complete the process.

Cost: from just £15 per thousand words.


PLEASE NOTE
The timescales involved may vary according to the number and severity of a document’s errors. In a document that has been written by someone with a good command of English and where the text flows freely, the proofreading process will be completed quickly and efficiently. However, if the text is poorly written this will increase the length of time it takes to complete the proofreading process. An additional fee may be added as a result of the length of time taken.

The PerfeKt Word’s Editorial Approach and Process

Our first consideration is that this is your work, and it must be your voice that emerges. Editing has a practical purpose: it helps the writing to achieve what the writer wants it to achieve. The PerfeKt Word will not impose its own style, although we will ensure your work conforms to the accepted British Standard English.

Please contact us by email – thomshaw@theperfektword.com or by private message through our Facebook page – www. facebook.com/ThePerfeKtWord with details of what kind of service you want and any deadline you may have. You are required to provide a copy of the work you’d like to be proofread /edited so that we may establish how long it will take to complete. The PerfeKt Word would need to recognise the subject matter, word count, file format, accuracy of spelling and grammar etc. before a final email quote for the work is provided.

Details you should know

•The PerfeKt Word’s opening hours are 9am-6pm Monday to Friday. We are closed on weekends. In exceptional circumstances however, such as an emergency, we may be able to accommodate your needs. This is subject to availability and dependant on the nature of the work to be carried out. An additional fee will be added to the standard price of the service you’ve chosen

•The PerfeKt Word offers a 10% discount to new clients off their first order. Discounts are also available for regular business clients

•we are able to carry out minor formatting changes such as; quotes, headings and tables of contents, though, this is usually considered outside the remit of a proofreader and we have limited experience in design work

•we are unable to guarantee grades as a result of an essay, dissertation or thesis being proofread or edited. Undergraduates in particular must check their college /university approves the employment of copy-editing services. The PerfeKt Word will not be held accountable for any type of plagiarism issues

•we are unable to edit PDF documents, but can convert them to Microsoft Word to work on

•we are unable to fact-check specific details, as this can be extremely time-consuming. The PerfeKt Word expects its clients to have researched their chosen topic(s) thoroughly so that any facts or statements presented in their work is correct at the time of checking. The PerfeKt Word will not be held accountable for any academic inaccuracies by the client


Payment Details

•fees are payable in advance in Pounds Sterling and can be made easily and securely from anywhere in the world using PayPal (please note PayPal levies a charge per transaction which is added to the total bill, unless the payment is made through the goods /gift option)

•fees may also be paid by online bank transfer (full account details will be provided with the final email quote). It is important to note that all money transfer fees must be paid by the payee

•please add your full name as a reference to the payment transaction

•if the total fees exceed £500, instalment payments can be negotiated with The PerfeKt Word

•credit card payments and /or cheques are not accepted


PLEASE NOTE
The PerfeKt Word is unable to commence proofreading your work until the full fee is received (unless agreed otherwise in the final email quote). The PerfeKt Word reserves the right to alter the return time /date from that stated in the final email quote, if the fees are received after the expiry time stated on the email quote.
