We're really looking forward to welcoming University of Plymouth's Prof Richard Handy to The Plymouth Athenaeum on Thursday (7.30pm) for what should be a fascinating insight into nanotechnology.

Professor Richard Handy opens The Plymouth Athenaeum’s 2018 Autumn Lecture series with ‘It’s a Small World – The Wonders of Nanotechnology’ on Thursday, September 27 (7.30pm).
All new technology needs to deliver benefits to society whilst also remaining safe for the environment and for human health. Richard Handy has spent the last decade researching and writing about the science of nanomaterials and how we use them.
Nanotechnology is finding its way into every aspect of our ...daily lives including our food, clothing, and household goods; but it is also pushing the frontiers of science with revolutionary new medicines, imaging technologies, electronics, robotics, industrial materials, and synthetic biology.
Nanotech offers many potential benefits, but what are the dangers of going down this ‘high tech’ road?
Richard Handy, pictured above, is a Professor in the School of Biological and Marine Sciences (Faculty of Science and Engineering) at Plymouth University.
Prof Handy has served on many international working groups and scientific committees; most recently on nanomaterials for the OECD, US NNI, and founder member of the UK Nanotechnology task force working on aspects of ecotoxicology. He also advises on animal welfare and alternative techniques, and is expert on whole animal biology.
Lectures are free and open to the public.
If wheelchair access is required please contact The Athenaeum in advance on (01752) 266079 or via email at info@plymouthathenaeum.co.uk

We are pleased to report that both the East and West car parks at The Plymouth Athenaeum have now re-opened.
The West car park has been repaired and re-surfaced and the east car park reinstated following the opening of the Crescent Point development. The East car park can once again be accessed via Athenaeum Place.
It is likely that both car parks will be re-lined within the next couple of weeks. We will notify you if this causes any disruption to car parking.
... Should you have any questions, please contact us on (01752) 266079 or via info@plymouthathenaeum.co.uk

Went to see Christmas Carol on my Family's advice as they had been to a few of there shows and always raved about it.

i must say that no matter what your Age these four Guys who perform this show are Brilliant actors they perform so well together and interact well with the Audience, it it so well put together, and acted so brilliantly that the 2 hours flew by. What i would say if you or your family wan't a good afternoon's entertainment, get yourself down to the Athenaeum you will not be disappointed. (shall be Retuning to support this wonderful group.)

We need to get together and return this place to its former glory. Such a wonderful place to stage local events for the community and for those who can't afford to pay high end theatre prices
