Well, it doesn't happen that often but this weekend is looking pants so I've called all our guests and given full refunds. No climbing, diving or walking. Hopefully everyone will find alternative, fun things to do. Sorry guys.

July is very busy with three weekends already fully booked. If you’re thinking about coming down this year get booking so you are covered. You can cancel up to 48hours before with full refunds and of course we still offer full refunds if the weather is rubbish, even on a same day basis. We know you’ll come down another time so it’s better to postpone that trip.
Currently though the weather is gorgeous, cliffs are dry and new bolts are in for some decent climbing.... The vis for diving is currently brilliant with some unsurpassed distances, just look at Dive Beyond’s website for some guests emails. Oh, and the BBQ has your name on it!

Down for the weekend and a spot of skippering for Dive Beyond.
Lovely to see Nick and Sam finally after 4 years of them being regulars. Sounds like they’re doing some amazing dry caving. Can’t wait to hear more tales tomorrow.

It was great to see Hidden Depths and also Scubateks at the Bunkhouse this weekend. Before any of the merry band of divers post anything I’d like to say that I deliberately took the boat I was skippering on to the lobster pots (three times), instead of wrecks. It’s all part of the joys of diving. I had a great weekend and am sure the divers loved the wrecks we finally found. Thanks to Dive Beyond and Dale Spree for a great weekend. Roll on the next one.

As we come into December and the end of 2017 I thought I’d let everyone know what has been going on at The Portland Bunkhouse.
Showers: The shower pressure is terrible as you all know. Portland Bill is notorious for it and the water company maintain that it is delivering the minimum 1 bar: which it isn’t, so the electric showers don’t always kick in. This has been the biggest gripe of 2017 and to be honest, previous years. I’ve had a quote for £4,000 to rectify this and am ...looking at alternatives as i can’t afford that. My promise is that by end of March 2018 this will be sorted out. Please bear with me.
The kitchen: the hob has been replaced with a larger more powerful one, we’ve installed a new, larger oven and larger microwave. More pots and pans so plenty of room to cook and a larger work surface.
Communal room: we’ve moved the table out into the hall and replaced it with more seating to make it more cosy.
Drinks machine: it’s not been the success I thought it would and is noisy in the hallway for guests who are trying to sleep so 2018 will see it gone.
Keep your comments coming so I can prioritise work at The Portland Bunkhouse.
Gary (and of course Ron who does all the work).

After 7 years of running the Portland Bunkhouse I need to make an apology.
There is always one and this weekend it was a band called CoLLyde who were appearing at The Boat That Rocks.
They stayed at the bunkhouse in room 1 and trashed it, breaking a table and putting holes in the wall. They kept people up a with loud music and smoked weed in the bunkhouse setting off the alarm well into the early hours.
... I can't tell from a booking who is staying but if I see this group coming down again I'll make sure they don't stay with us or any of our local hostels/hotels.
I am so disgusted with their behaviour and animosity towards our other guests that I will be writing to our guests so that I can give them a full refund for Saturday night.
I run the bunkhouse currently at a loss and have done so since opening it. This year was supposed to see it turn around but with complete fuxxwitts like this it makes it harder.
I am so so sorry guys.
I really hope this doesn't put you guys off. I am always here and ready to respond to any reasonable issues immediately.

The Season of Climbing and Diving is definitely with us with our busiest weekend of the year so far! The Reach Climbing Wall from South London are on their way down. Magic Climbing are in and we have The London Rock Climbers on their annual pilgrimage. The Bunkhouse is full this weekend so don't forget to bring your BBQ sauce as the weather is looking great. Visibility in the Harbour for diving is great and the hot ribena at Dive Beyond along with chocolates are all lined up.

Diving season has officially started and the vis is looking good so it's time to dust off the suits, make sure your regs are serviced and get down for some south coast splendour.
Climbing really doesn't have a season in Portland, it doesn't matter which way the wind blows there are always sheltered crags.
The windsurfers were down at the Bunkhouse last week with gusts up to 40km an hour our sister bunkhouse in Guernsey was glad for the impromptu business.
... Anyway, bookings are coming in fast so have a think about when you want to get down here, check out the availability page and book in quick.
All the best Gary and Ron www.portlandbunkhouse.com/availability.ph p

The season has started so welcome back to all our regular and new guests. We have the British Army in this week but the weather for the weekend is looking very windy so the visibility for divers will be a clear Zero... Climbers: it's not looking good, you might get a half day in on Saturday but Sunday is a no go. All the best Gary and Ron

A very happy New Year to all of our guests. Thank you for keeping the Bunkhouse going with your continued patronage and your likes, comments and support on our social media sites. 2017 started with a flurry of bookings for the Bunkhouse and as per every previous year we've been running, a list of work for Ron to improve and maintain the wonderful site, grounds and views of Portland Bill. We hope to see you all down here for a BBQ, a dive or two, sailing, kite surfing, bird watching and some great climbing over the next 12 months. See you soon 😀

User

Thank you Brunel University Climbing Club for spending a second year at the Portland Bunkhouse and looking after it. It was a pleasure having you down and Ron thanks you for stripping the beds. You are always welcome to stay and we welcome your feedback on things that would make the stay better. Gary

This is what you wake up to when staying at the Portland Bunkhouse..

User

This weekend all diving is cancelled due to strong westerly winds so we are very quiet.
There is a group of hardy climbers coming down to try out the Portland rock and luckily the east of Portland will be sheltered so good luck Zoe and your group, let us know how you get on.

User

Well the weather for diving this weekend is looking bad. Climbing is fine as there are some sheltered spots.
Guess I will be calling all our guests tomorrow with offers of full refunds...
... Sorry guys.

I found the bunkhouse to be everything I expected however some guest can be a pain but on the hole it's fine, I use the bunkhouse when I volunteer as safety boat for the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy, so to stay in b & b is expensive I just want a clean bed and hot drinks.

User

Great place to stay! Clean, cheap, wifi, kitchen, tv room, great views, you can arrive anytime of the day or night. What more could you want. Been staying there years and recommend it to all new diving friends.
