Went Saturday 28th July for bottomless Brunch! Was fabulous me and the other 6 lasses had a great time, food was lush, prosecco was definitely flowing! Well worth the £20 we paid! Will defo be booking it again

User

There was a group of four of us we have never been here before and the food was exelant .and trust me I am very fussy where gravy is concerned but it was realy lovely the staff were very welcoming and friendly I would recommend this place you won't be disappointed thankyou to everyone at the Portland for making our first visit but definately not our last a very pleasurable experience

User

Had our wedding reception here 21st July, staff were amazing, food was fantastic. Room was beautiful, our day was perfect from start to finish. Thank you so much to everyone at the Portland who helped make our day so amazing

User

Fabulous place! Will definitely be returning. The staff treat you more like old friends than customers. We had to travel a long way to get to The Portland as I was having surgery locally. Nothing was too much trouble for the team. They were available for me to have an earlier than normal breakfast, without making me feel like an inconvenience. The evening meal (prior to the early breakfast) was delicious. And the staff very friendly.

I had to stay in hospital slightly longer than expected, but the team were able to accommodate my parents staying extra nights and they were more than happy to stay there.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and very comfortable.

As previously mentioned we will be returning, and look forward to it.

Thank you to you all x

Dropped some balloons off for a christening and decided to stay for breakfast.. will definetly be back. £6 for unlimited breakfast included unlimited tea and toast. You couldn't make it for that! Excellent choice of food!!

What a lovely place too. Staff & management very friendly.

Worth 6 stars if I could give it..

Came with the family on the 21st October 5 adults and 4 kids, the Sunday dinner was great carrots were a little on hard side but I am not bothered about that.

The meat Pork and Beef cooked really well.

I have heard complaints of the guy who stands at the front being arrogant, but he entertained my two 3 year olds when they decided they didn't want to eat any more.

This is my 4th time and I will be back again, thanks once again.

User

Very nice and welcoming inside, staff are friendly & food is lovely. Shame they are only doing the full tapas menu on a Sunday night and small plates are very nice if you fancy a change & fancy sharing

User

The portions you get are very good, I was there with my friends on Thursday night and I noticed they had their new menu out, me being a non meat eater I look straight away at the veggie options and I nearly choked on my drink when I saw the veggie burger was £12, I think that is shocking it must be massive that's all I can say as I refused to pay that price, the pizzas and everything else has gone up as well, good job the food is good, the place is done out really well but the ladies toilets were freezing must invest in some heating! 😱

User

Stayed here Tuesday night. Lovely clean rooms, comfy bed and accommodation is round the back so it’s nice and quiet! Buffet breakfast was nicely cooked and there is at least 7 items to choose from!

(Only disappointment, was no side plates on table for residents! Apparently, people come in from street and use what would be our plates and help themself to breakfast! Maybe once we sit down we could get a side plate!) On the whole, you offer a great service and staff are just great! We will be back!

User

We used to go often to the Portland for a midweek meal, but we went for Xmas Day with both our sons and 1sons partner, we were really looking forward to Xmas Day at the Portland, we chose our table before hand for 2pm, on arriving we were given this awful bucks fizz drink which must have been standing for ages!! We went to our table and had to repeatedly ask where were our starters?? When we did eventually get them mine which was the smoked salmon and prawn was disgusting!! One slither of salmon and 2 small prawns, eventually we went for our buffet dinner which some veg were cold, then our desserts which I can only say the Xmas pudd must have come out of a container, not the best!! At no point did anyone ask if our food was Ok??? So came home and made a better Xmas lunch on Boxing Day, we always love the food there but was very disappointed as it was Xmas Day ( my birthday) so we thought right we will all go out and have a fab day!!! But it wasn't to be,so we are now looking for some where else for Xmas Day .

User

The food is ok. There's a massive choice which can only mean one thing....most meals go "ping" when they're done. The restaurant is huge, granted I was there midweek, but the place was empty. I worry that a small town like Ashington can support a venue this large. The breakfast costs £4 and lives up to its price tag. Overall I never had a bad meal while I was there.

On the plus side the staff were all young, friendly and attentive. I stayed in one of the 12 rooms in the lodge at the rear of the hotel. My room was spacious, modern and well decorated with a huge bed.

User

My friend and I both had scampi which was very nice and piping hot, chips could have been better they were a bit oily. I think it was a bit pricey compared to other places I have been. I had a glass of orange cordial and water cost me £2 which I think is a bit much.

User

Decided to try the breakfast here today with the family 5 adults and 7mth old baby. Alarm bells should of rang from the start. 1st the price £2.50 for unlimited tea/coffee 4 times my husband went for coffee there wasnt any.. Asked if i could have a plate to put an egg on for our 7mth old and was told id have to pay as she was technically eating.. Food was ok if you like it hard or brick hard.. Then our table to be cleared when 1 of the group was still eating as they had to sort out for the new brunch menu starting.. very disappointed as we've ate here a few times on an evening and the food and service was spot on.. We definitely wont be back anytime soon.

User

1st time back in 4 years after a terrible wedding experience ( trip advisor)What can I say that I’m still definitely not in a hurry to go back. Firstly I stood in a line of people for 15 minutes just to be served a drink only 2 people on the bar. One pouring and other on the till to be served flat coke ( yet again) . £8 for a small cold dinner no carrots as they were cooking no pork left on the hot plate, the swede was stone cold and all of this you could not get off the spoon to get it on your plate. Will say I arrived at 12 and ate at 1pm.

User

i was looking forward to my christmas party here last night, to be very disappointed.very small choice of food, not a single sweet collection, party games?heads n tails?im not 5! won't be back!

User

Well as your staff request i wont be back apparantly my dietry requirements are too hard to meet and im not welcome. Id have been fine with you saying that when we booked but dont pretend to care offer to make to order to then have your staff treat me as some sort of freak making constant anouncements to the tune that i was difficult and tell me not to return. The food was ok but i wont be back due to the staff.

User

We went for Mother's Day meal . Treat appallingly by the manager because we weren't happy with one meal . He told us not to come back as we werent welcome at that we always complained Why would we go back if we always complained ??? Shocking treatment shocking customer service we won't be back don't worry how rude

User

We love going to the Portland but we will NEVER be back! The bloke who runs the place does not understand the meaning of customer service and how to deal correctly with a complaint. We have been accused of being serial complainers and told never to come back! We dont often complain, it's lies we enjoy going. We had a genuine reason to complain as the food was not acceptable. We are upset and very disappointed! Strangely enough he disappeared when we left ....

User

Go all of the time for breakfasts but today found the price went up from £4 to £5.50 because of new items being available. The new items were over cooked fried bread (chewing oil), a omelette that looked like something you got stuck on the bottom of your shoe and invisible eggy bread. It’s been the worst breakfast I’ve had in all the time I’ve been there over cooked bacon, something ghandi would use as a flip flop and soggy sausages. Don’t know if there’s been a change in the staff at the back but why change and charge more for something that didn’t need fixed? Also it was good to see the fresh orange juice I asked for to come out of a post mix pump, always fresh when it could be sitting there for a couple weeks
