We’ve added one of the most delicious Gin’s to our collection. Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger served fabulously with lashings of Ice, Fresh Orange & Fever-Tree Tonic. Try mixing with Ginger Ale to make a great G&G.

Was in Basingstoke so thought we try here and was really lovely food I had the sausage and mash my daughter had the burger was very tasty staff was polite and all smiling. Good price and lovely pub all round thank you 😊

I am very fussy when it comes to steak and had planned to eat here for a while.

The meal was flawless, the steak was cooked perfectly, the tomatoe had so much flavour it rivald the steak.

The onion rings were massive and thin, it was good to see onion rings not the same size and shape you buy from a supermarket.

Service was perfect, highly recogmended.

Recently visited for dinner and have to say my main meal of mushroom pasta was not good however they were really nice about it offered me something else and didn’t charge me for it which I don’t think you can ask anymore on , rest of the food was good and the service was good too.

User

I love this pub because it is so relaxed and friendly. The food is great; the team are lovely. The only down side can be the speed of service - but if you are out for a relaxed evening then it being a bit slow is a bonus.

User

Great location , we came from Surrey , driving to Salisbury and we decided to stay for a drink as I knew the place from before . Great place ! The service from the French lady was spot on . The biscuits with the coffee were amazing , also the Prosecco delightful. That's one of the nicest places in the area , don't miss it ! Locals are very nice too !

Got to be my favourite pub when visiting family in Basingstoke. This venue itself has so much to offer for simple drinks inside or outside in the lovely table and canopy area, where there is also a children's play area. Inside is such a treat, it is full of character form times past. The food menus is great too, simply something to suit everyone's tastes and budget.

User

Explained was waiting on friends to join me for something to eat. Was told could sit anywhere in the restaurant area.

Next thing bloke comes out and tells me I shouldn't be sitting there as they have a table of 10 coming in (area not set up). So had to move tables

Waitress very abrupt. Food was ok, drinks very expensive £6 odd for a Pimms.

Used to be a nice place. Taking our service else where - sorry

Went to the Portsmouth Arms for lunch as a bit of a "treat". Their sandwich menu has always been great in the past with well filled "proper" bread so we were looking forward to it. Today's offering was very little filling in hovis sliced bread, with overcooked chips on the side £22 for something I could have bought for under a tenner for both of us in Sainsbury's. Very disappointed, won't bother again!

User

Very disappointed after visiting yesterday that even though pub was half empty & paying £3.95 for a pint that it was against their rules to stand or sit at the bar, I was in a corner, not in anyone's way or blocking access, staff quite rude.

User

Good menu and good food, lovely setting and play area for kids on a hot day.... sadly let down by awfully slow and rude service. We waited 1 hr for our dinner to arrive (table of 5) and we were the only people there. Then to top that off my dinner order was not put through and everyone had finished eating by the time my food arrived. 30 minute wait for 2 puddings one of which was a muffin! The waiter was on his second day and was very lovely and polite but made lots of mistakes and other staff were very rude to him and us rather than helping or shadowing him.

User

Came yesterday at lunch with some friends. Waited for ages for dinner, then one meal was forgotten, along with two sides, making a lunch out with friends usless as we were unable to eat together. Waitor was on his second day and had no support from his colleges who were rude to both him and us! Very disappointing from a pub with a lovely setting.

User

We came yesterday for a meal and I must say I was very disappointed. My husband has ordered fish with very dry mushy peas and undercooked chips and I have ordered fish and chip shop platter and looked like meal from Iceland shop.Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

User

Vile food don't bother... haven't had food here for for a while, thought I'd try again after a couple of bad experiences previously months ago. Food was just as disgusting now as it was then. The ribs were definitely out of a bag... I advised the waitress my food was not nice, hardly touched and I didn't want to pay for it ideally. Thanks for taking it off the bill, however I didn't appreciate the other waitress that approached the table to discuss my life skills in manners. I was in no way rude, it wasn't the waitresses fault the food wasn't nice. I certainly was not a difficult customer, god help you when you may get one. Not a great experience and I will not be coming back.

User

Took well over an hour for us to wait for our main meal, one meal and a side was completely forgotten about despite being the only ones there, so we all couldn't eat at the same time. Pudding took half an hour, despite it only being a brownie to be heated in a microwave and a muffin. The waiter we had, it was his second day, very nice guy, but was left on the till on his own, clearly needed more training, more shadowing, the staff that helped him were rude and clearly had no time to help him, he was asking for help, they were just talking to him like a bit of dirt on the floor. Outside looks lovely though, shame about everything inside. Definitely will not be going here again.

This pub is the worst I have ever been to not being local I searched for a pub near by that had a kid play area which it did but not much to be desired but ok to keep the kids entertained for 5 mins but THE SERVICE to be told at 4pm only 6 roast chicken left we ordered quickly to then pop across to order drinks once I had my drinks a waiter came to inform me that they could not provide on the roast Yorkshire pudding, gravy and some of the veg so i could change my order I wanted a roast the whole point of choosing this pub so I accepted it as it was but asked for some money off as I had already purchased drinks and had hungry children after battling over 10 minutes she only offered me one free child’s meal so I accepted, but then the next stage THE FOOD it came out in dribs and drabs and it was awlful the worst I have ever had and I have been to many restaurants, the roast potatoes were cold and soggy the veg was just reheated slop the cauliflower cheese that I paid extra for was burnt and looked like vomit and the gravy that they did provide was like water it was truly horrible. I would never use this pub again if it was the last resort it was truly the worst ever.

User

The Portsmouth Arms is one of the worst pubs in Basingstoke. The staff, especially the manager are rude beyond belief. If you dare argue with them they threaten to throw you out and don’t ever mention the portion sizes as they’ll simply refuse to do anything about it. When there today and the mash potatoe portion was very small and when I asked if it would be possible to get some more they said they couldn’t do anything about it and that that was the size the meal came with. I sent back the meal and received a full refund, which meant the food went in the bin. Such stupidity and wastage!

User

Shocking meal, table booked for 6pm. Dinner bought at 8.30pm. Two meals sent back finally arrived after everyone else had finished. It was all blamed upon a very young, clearly inexperienced waiter, clearly not his fault. Asked to speak to manager but referred to assistant manager who apparently can't speak very good English but conversed incredibly well with us. I only ever go to this venue when invited rather than choice because its always seemed a little bit crap but tonight it proved itself to be complete and utterly crap.

User

Service was very poor, the menus and wine glasses where not cleared when we had ordered making the table cluttered, the starters took an hour to arrive then 40 minutes for the main, food quality for the inflated price very poor lamb skewers where something I could get from supermarket for a pound, I had sirloin steak which was planted on top the chips and made them soggy the one mushroom I had tasted of burnt grill and the fried half tomato the same not edible, we ordered French fries and got the fat chips and where told the fries would take another 10 minutes, kids pasta for £6.50 yuk kids hated it. This is the worst meal we've ever had and will not be returning you have the nerve to charge these prices, weatherspoons are 100% better and a quarter of the price. Oh and take that green 5 star rating off your door your not even close.

User

Just eaten here. Bacon resembled cardboard, burger over cooked. After asking if burger is frozen, honest answer so 1 star, and yes it is! £10 for a frozen burger..... bad bad bad bad bad
