The Potty Planters

Handmade planters and garden furniture in a wide range of unique, versatile designs, all of which will brighten up any dull corner of your garden or patio.

The Potty Planters was actually my partner's idea - I'd been doing so much DIY around the house and garden, fitting shelves and making units, building tool sheds and even a little house for the local stray cat. . .

Anyway, she said, "Daniel, why don't you build a couple of planters - you could give them away as gifts - or even sell them at the boot fayre". . . So we sourced a few waste pallets from a friend and I proceeded to make a couple of troughs. Before I knew it, I'd built a dozen planters of various designs, with more ideas popping into my head for new units.

I really enjoyed building these pieces of garden furniture - so much so that I decided to take the project a little further by making a business out of it, which meant going that extra mile.

I started by giving each unit a thorough sanding to remove any splinters, then stained the whole structure with a nice deep Cedar weather treatment. Where necessary, I fitted sturdy feet to raise the trough off the floor and attached wall fixings where needed. I also acquired some discarded plastic sheeting, which I used to make custom fitted linings.

This first batch, as I say, is in a nice warm brown weather stain, but I'm planning on doing a bit of painting next time, probably a pleasant pale grey, baby pink and a bright meditteranian blue - in varying quantities. Some varnish may be on the cards, too. But do let me know if you'd like an item in a different colour (or size) - I'll be happy to oblige.
