About The Powder Room Physio

I am a trained Women's Health Physiotherapist, aiming to break the taboo of talking about women's health issues that can affect each and every one of us

The Powder Room Physio Description

Jenna Sweeney graduated from The University of Hertfordshire in 2006 with a BSc Hons Degree in Physiotherapy. Her decision to study physio was based on her love of movement which she developed through training as a Sports Acrobatic gymnast with the local Chermond Gymnastics Club which she devoted many of her younger years to. Physiotherapy is a big part of the family with her older sister and husband practising as Chartered Physiotherapists also.

Between university and starting her career, Jenna completed a season in France to learn to snowboard, which has now become one of her passions – perhaps because it combines the outdoors and exploring freedom of movement. Following this, she moved to Birmingham to complete her junior rotations within the NHS for two and a half years. However with the mountains calling once again, she moved on to complete her second ski season with her husband.

In 2010 Jenna moved over to New Zealand with her husband working as a rehab physio in Middlemore Hospital, South Auckland. Being there fuelled Jenna’s love for the great outdoors, making the most of the easily accessible vast beautiful countryside, where they enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, climbing, hiking, running and of course snowboarding.

Jenna returned to the UK in 2012 to her home county of Norfolk, aiming to make the most of what Norfolk has to offer, she is a keen runner and can often be seen at the various park runs across Norfolk, practising on the Norfolk Ski Clubs slopes, swimming and climbing at local facilities and kayaking the broads near her house. Having a go at everything is important to Jenna, not just because it’s fun but also to be able to understand the people that she treats.

Women’s and Men’s Health Specialist:

Whilst settling into life back home, Jenna developed into a Women’s and Men’s Health Physiotherapist Role at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, this was catalysed by experiencing a different approach to antenatal care in New Zealand, where high emphasis on proactivity for one’s own health was central to wellbeing. Having completed clinical courses in Pilates for rehabilitation, she has been found the approach to be an excellent form of exercise to continue with through motherhood years, and to address dysfunctions of the pelvic floor.

Additionally, Jenna has undertaken recognised postgraduate training to assist women who maybe experiencing musculoskeletal biomechanical pain during the antenatal and postnatal period, or distressing symptoms such as pelvic organ prolapse or urinary or faecal incontinence which can be experienced at any time in life. With expansion of her knowledge and skills, Jenna is competent to assess and treat men also for post prostatectomy side effects such as urinary incontinence.

Being involved with an organisation that provides an array of holistic services is important for the approach that Jenna has with Physiotherapy. Rowan House is the perfect welcoming, comfortable and professional setting to deliver not only great healthcare options but options that strive towards a better wellbeing – the reasons why we want to have good health.
