About The Prince Rupert

Full-to-the-brim with history, real ales, fine wines & good food. Relax in the conservatory, kick back in the terraced garden & enjoy live music

The Prince Rupert Description

Welcome to the Prince Rupert, part of the KNEAD family since 2010 and originally built in 1452. Not only does the Prince Rupert look the part, it’s also on the Newark Civil War Trail, which means it genuinely is full of history!

Tucked away conveniently on Stodman Street, between the castle and the fabulous market square, The Prince Rupert is one of Newark’s most characterful pubs (if we do say so ourselves! ). We’re the perfect spot for a bite to eat or simply a chilled out pint. We even have popular live music events, which take place in our music venue tucked away upstairs with its very own bar. The venue is even available for private hire!

After 18 months of meticulous restoration the Prince Rupert still retains many of its original timber frames and historical charm. As with all the pubs in the family, the Prince Rupert has been brought up-to-date in the signature KNEAD style with quirky decorations and furnishings – not to mention the popular enamel signs.

Pop by the Prince Rupert next time you’re in Newark. We’re a friendly bunch and we would for to visit for one of our beer festivals, music events or even just for dinner and pint. In fact, our choice of real ales is truly something to shout about – we even helped to found the Real Ale Collective of Newark (RACOON). Not only that but our menu includes the popular stone-baked KNEAD pizzas, plus a selection of quirky and more traditional dishes, which all make the most of locally sourced produce – such as the beef that makes up our scrumptious Homemade Lincoln Red Beef Burger.

Went to try this lovely old pub which was recommended by the lady at tickateboo loved it great food and drink with the family.

User

We held our daughter's 18th birthday party in the private room upstairs & it was a really good night, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the pizzas were excellent as usual & a great time was had by all.

Upon my first ever visit to Britain this year, I went to meet up with a family friend from Skegness at Newark Upon Trent. Being from America, I had never set foot in a traditional English Pub before. The atmosphere was amazing, relaxing and unforgettable. The food was delightful, however I ended up getting full really quick. And the most important thing I'll remember about this place is interacting with the locals and getting asked questions about how life was in California as well as being able to meet with a family friend that we haven't seen in almost 30 years.

Some places you remember them for the good food, beer and atmosphere. For me, well, it's a place I will forever remember and will indeed return to upon my next trip to Britain.

Popped in at 2.30, kitchen closing but fitted us in. Food excellent, service excellent, would highly recommend. Staff very friendly and go the extra mile.

User

Out with the dog on a cold wet day, was lovely to pop into the rupert and get coffees and some tasty breakfast. The dog was welcomed and the staff were efficient and friendly, and the food was superb.

User

My favourite pub in Newark. Warm, cosy and the building is so old and interesting. Lots of different room to choose from. Also dog friendly a big bonus. Staff are lovely and chatty and food is lovely and presented well. No problem sitting in this pub on my own.

User

Lovely pub! Stopped by for Sunday lunch at 6pm cos we couldn’t find anywhere else still serving it. What a find! Fantastic atmosphere, great staff, great wine, and the best Sunday lunch in months! We will be back asap😋

User

Love this place - so very old - you can feel the history. Lovely member of staff even got me some cream from the kitchen for my coffee as they usually serve it with milk. What great service !!

User

Love the food but wish they would do small meals apart from the kids menu. I waste more of the meal than I can eat. They only do kids roast meals on a Sunday

User

First visit and what an excellent find for me and my dog Molly. The sign outside welcomed dogs and their owners, thank you for that. A goid place to rest on a hot day. It's a lovely pub with a good atmosphere. Love the decor. We will return.

User

User

Ate there yesterday with three friends, the food was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, and a great atmosphere, we will definitely return........can highly recommend the Indian Burger !

User

Ate here for the first time yesterday and it was really good, as was the service. The beef was exceptionally delicious. However, I did feel the vegetables were on the edge of being undercooked and underseasoned but still overall the best sunday dinner we've eaten for a very long time. Thoroughly enjoyed the cauliflower cheese too. Will be back to sample other menu options as we could see others meals coming out of the kitchen and everything looked very nice.

User

My self and my sisters have lunch here, the staff are so friendly and polite. On the way out on Saturday the 10th, people standing outside said, ' is it alright for food in there?' Obviously, said yes! Would definitely recommend.

User

Great feel to this pub with a nice selection of ales, the food was lovely I had cheese and pickle cob with home made slaw our lass had Minnie fish and chips with a rather nice home made tartre sauce couldn't be any better we loved it

User

£13.95 for fish and chips, fish was half the size I have paid half the price for elsewhere and both fish and chips were over cooked. Half of the menu was unavailable.

Deserts too expensive average price £7-8.

Nice building but in my opinion if you want value for money, not the place for you!

User

Went here for a family celebration and was very disappointed. The beer battered fish was very overcooked, I left most of it, not what you expect for an expensive £12. On top of that the waitress spilt a hot jug of gravy over me - a full jug! Although there was an apology, there was no offer of a reduction in the price or any other compensation, the staff all disappeared and left me trying to clean up with a few serviettes. I spent the rest of our day out with a sticky mess of a dress and blouse. To top it all, they have not even had the manners to respond to my email. I would avoid this place like the plague.

User

We had an appalling meal here we had beer battered fish and chips which at £12 a head was defiantly not up to standard, the fish was massively over cooked. Then to top off this substandard meal whilst the waitress was clearing our plates she over stacked the plates proceeding to pour a jug of gravy over my mum, who was wearing a white shirt! For this upset we were offered nothing, absolutely no compensation for a clearly ruined shirt or the horrible meal.
