*** AUDITION NOTICE ***
The Bancroft will soon be holding auditions for....
Radiant Vermin ... by Philip Ridley Directed by Matt Gray
Audition Dates: Tuesday 2nd and Thursday 4th July 2019 Performance Dates: Tuesday 15th October to Saturday 19th October 2019
Jill and Ollie are as upbeat and perky as presenters on daytime TV, the kind of show where eager eyes and electrified smiles are mandatory.
This charming young couple has been chosen by pure chance (or perhaps by design) by a government representative, Miss Dee, in order to participate in a wonderful new programme that bears the aspirational title of ‘Social Regeneration Through the Creation of Dream Homes’. Via this scheme, the house of their dreams will be theirs if they simply do what comes naturally. Of course they may not feel that what’s required of them is anything like natural behaviour. But then these dewy newlyweds, who have been living in a squalid council estate known as “the crime capital of the universe,” don’t know human nature as well as the playwright does....
The couple enter a Faustian pact within this jet-black comedy that packs a punch, satirising greed, consumerism and our desperate need to climb the social ladder, and asks the question, is a new kitchen worth a human life?
This is diabolically funny, vicious dark comedy where a government department has found an ingenious solution to the twin dilemmas of housing shortage and homelessness.
Characters; Jill – female – 20 - 35 Ollie – male – 20 - 35 Miss Dee – any age from 40+
This play will be a wonderful challenge for the actors, who will all additionally play other characters within the story.
Notes About the Auditions Scripts will be shortly available by the box office with a signing in and out list. Please try not to keep them too long, as numbers are limited. For those interested in auditioning for Jill or Ollie, please ensure you look at the party scene towards the end of the play.
The plan will be to cast the play early, then come back together for rehearsals in late July/Early August.
Rehearsal nights will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. Want to Know More?
Feel free to drop Matt an email if you want any more information at mrmattgrayis@hotmail.com

Thomas Wolsey (1473-1530) remains one of the most intriguing, charismatic figures of the entire Tudor period.
In an age where the 'Great Chain of Being' encouraged people to believe that every man had his place and should not depart from it, Wolsey showed that it was possible for a butcher's son from Ipswich to become the key figure in both Church (as a Cardinal and Archbishop of York) and State (as Lord Chancellor) under King Henry VIII. He built palaces - such as Hampton C...ourt and York Palace (now the Palace of Westminster, home of Parliament) - and became wealthier and more entertained more lavishly than the King himself. Such was his pre-eminence that many suspected that he aimed to become an Alter Rex (or second King).
Wolsey's failure to arrange an annulment for Henry was quickly followed by his downfall. Wolsey was arrested near York in November 1530 and accused of treason. He died on 29 November of the same year at Leicester on his journey south to face trial.

On this day in Tudor history, 12th June 1530, King Henry VIII got criticised for "the evil life he was leading and the bad example he was setting".
Who had the nerve to speak like this to King Henry VIII? His wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon, who was at her wit's end with her husband's behaviour and his relationship with her former lady, Anne Boleyn.
