Well I gotta say we were treated like royalty today. My wife brought me here for my Birthday meal today. The staff were wonderful and the food was amazing. We didn't have to wait long for our food and was cooked to perfection. Thank you for a special meal.

I can hardly believe what l am reading about Ramblers Rest. The reviews are truly appalling. My son used to run the kitchen in this restaurant at age 17. He ran it like a top class establishment and while he did that he was taking his chef exams at Croydon College where he won the Nestle Award , the class attendance award, and a top pass in every exam he took. He was taught a regime in Ramblers kitchen by our next door neighbor who was head chef at the time and when he moved on.my son took on his job. As l said my son was 17. If my son could do all that and turn out top class food, then what's going wrong now ? My son went on at 20 to run other prestigious restaurants in London....you need advice from him, l think.

User

Excellent food - lovely atmosphere just what we were looking for....cosy country pub reasonable prices and tasteful food with good service and polite and friendly staff

User

Very cute pub. Not enough staff on when we were there. The doombar was off , and the barman agreed so no problem. Not a good sign when Ale is not served properly. Food was a bit over priced and stodgy. I don't mind paying top dollar for a pub meal .. but it has to be good. I would still go back .. nice atmosphere.

User

Is a nice pub with a nice Garden. Popped in for a pint in the sunshine was a lovely day so understandably busy. Bar lacked organised with Customers irritated because staff didn't organise the bar and had no idea who were queuing longest. Could have been a bit more prepared for the nice weather and organised some cleaning and spruce up of the outside furniture. All in all a nice spot but could do with some organisation and staff that are maybe a bit more motivated and attentive.

User

There was no heating so we sat in our coats all lunch time feeling cold. Asked for drinks without ice, they came with ice. Waited a long time for our meal, but it was nice. Had dessert crumble & custard which came out cold, although metal dish was very hot, waitress apologised took them back, the second lot weren't much hotter, she took off bill. All in all have been there a few times but won't go back.

User

Pity that such a lovely place can be ruined by a bad management.

A friend of mine invited me there to try Asahi beer on tap but... it was Sunday, therefore they run out!!!

I suggested a lunch in there but my friend politely declined saying he wouldn't eat there if they paid him.

I watched other people waiting ages for their food, I saw tables full of empty glasses as there were not enough staff to collect it. Our last round of two beers nearly didn't happen as they couldn't find any glasses. In the end the barman grabbed a dirty glass from the nearest table and washed it by hand.

I won't go back there again on a hurry.

User

Not impressed with service today for a friends wedding.

On arrival the room itself still had decor up from a previous event! Not fair for the bride and groom!

Buffet breakfast was poor for the cost (£300 did not spread far at all). They were told would be 2 servings but allegedly all came out in one?!

I've never had to buy extra food but we ordered deserts and the brownies were under cooked and unpleasant, chef 'mike' must have been busy! Crime brûlée itself was nice but the biscuit was rubbery

Ladies toilets were freezing cold.

General atmosphere warm and festive but overall I would not automatically come back!

User

Turned up at your pub today with the view to have some food. Heard a rumour that the the you could not eat food in the bar area. Asked a member of staff and were told we could order food. Ordered our drinks, sat down for an hour, went to order food and we were told they were not serving food and could not provide a reason other than the fact they were busy. No signs up. Sitting there with menus and no one thought to tell us we could not order food. Wasted money on a bottle of wine we could have got somewhere else. Very poor service.

User

Truly awful. I used to love this pub but last few visits have been awful. Visited today & had to wait 1.5 hours for food. When it arrived the gammon, egg & chips was pretty much inedible (would've expected better from a Whetherspoons...rubber egg, dry gammon...) & my vegetarian pizza came with the unexpected addition of chicken (?!!!) which I couldn't eat as I am actually veggie. I was told I'd have to reorder & wait for a replacement.

Do yourself a favour & don't bother...go somewhere else instead.

User

Terrible experience which was a shame as we were celebrating mum's birthday. Standard of food was poor and what came to the table was not what we ordered. Service was very slow, we felt like we were an inconvenience. We used to be regular customers but I would not recommend visiting this pub, let alone eating here. Plenty of other places nearby which are far better.

User

Shocked to be followed out of your establishment into the car park this evening by someone with some kind of problem. Went for a quiet drink. Stayed for two. Man at the bar laughing and joking with your staff followed us out when we left, right up In our faces aggressive and clearly spoiling for a fight, demanding to know "what's the Betty boo" whatever the hell that means. A frightening, awful experience, I am very upset. This is my most local pub. I am in my forties. I don't speak "Betty Boo", I have no idea what his problem was. I will not be back. Sort yourselves out Ramblers! You will lose a lot of business, especially from locals if you encourage this kind of clientele.

User

It was dreadful, they didn't have enough staff, couldn't cope at all. Service wasn't great, food certainly wasn't great and expensive for what it was. Not great when they can't even make a cup of coffee!! Strawberries were moody and shouldn't have been served! Wouldn't go back there. X

User

If I could give no stars I would. Wouldn’t go back there for dinner again was absolutely appalling. Took an hour for our food to come only to be told half of us couldn’t have our chosen dinner as they had run out! It was then another hour for the dessert menu at which point we had been there for 2 hours so we paid and left. Also the roast chicken was horrible so wouldn’t recommend that

User

I have never been to such a hostile pub. Staff reluctant to intervene when I was abused by a very drunk lady and an aggressive man. My crime was moving quietly away from some very loud dogs which were allowed to freely roam the pub. Felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. One plus point was we did get our drinks refunded as we could only bear 5 minutes. Avoid at all costs - terrible horrible place

User

I have been to RR quite a few times but I didn't enjoy our last visit on Bank Holiday Monday. There didn't seem enough staff on duty, the tables outside were full of empty glasses, plates and cutlery. We went inside and there were a load of traveller families, who were very loud and then two of their toddlers had a fight on the floor pulling each other's hair. At that point several of the customers decided to leave and sit outside. The meal wasn't great either. Think I will give it a miss next time.

User

Having been regular customers over many years we have to say it has really gone downhill and would not choose to eat there again, which is very sad.

Our table was booked for my birthday and the service was awful, not enough staff and the food very poor. My husbands roast pork was cold so had to send it back. We ordered wine and it finally arrived once we finished our main meal!! We ordered one cheesecake which took over 15 mins to arrive so decided we'd had enough.

Admittedly after complaining we were give 25% off and free wine but that's not what you want and it spoilt my birthday meal.

We gave it a reluctant second try this year after a disastrous Xmas Day meal where we had booked for 14 people and it was awful, spent over 4 hours waiting for food which arrived at different times and some meals were cold. Again they refunded most of our bill, but ruined our Xmas Day!

Enough is enough it was always a great local pub which now needs to sort out the problem with decent food and enough good staff before we will eat there again.

User

Disgraceful, how can you take 1 hour and 30mins to cook a few burgers? Then a memeber of your staff said your food will be ‘10min’ which in my mind is 600 seconds but in your pubs mind is 45mins! I think a lesson is maths is required here. I will be telling everyone to avoid this ‘pub’.

User

Disappointed. Thought hubby and I would have a lovely alfresco lunch. We sat down to enjoy what looked like could be a decent ciabatta sandwich. I ordered the avocado and red pepper. It was £9. I thought for that price it wants to be better than the local cafe and certainly better than I could do at home. I had next to no avocado, dead/dry peppers, a non beetroot rosti etc. The chips were old and not even reheated. And I'm no chef. I'm sure the picture I took speaks for itself but we were put off ramblers in the past because of the poor service, quality of food, moody staff and congealed salt and pepper shakers. I asked the manager for salt. And he said yes we have a problem with all the salt shakers. Heres a tip; go to tesco. Buy some new ones. It seems that in 12 months nothing has changed. So disappointed. We knew it would be a horrible experience and a total waste of money.
