The Raw Honey Shop Description

Here is what we are about.

Getting the best raw honey, raw bee pollen, raw unprocessed royal jelly and organic bees wax to people. We're about pure honey from pure wild places and supporting small scale beekeepers who care about their bees and don't give them antibiotics and other medicines that contaminate the honey, pollen and royal jelly. You can reach us on 01273 682109.

How did we start? By discovering an amazing honey that tasted completely unlike anything you can buy on the shelves of a supermarket here. It was in a little shop on the border between France and Spain - in the Pyrenees. Later we met the enigmatic beekeeper behind the honey, Tio Ramon. Tio Ramon loves his bees and is committed to pure raw honey from bees in some of the wildest parts of Spain. He lives on a patch of land with his family, where they grow all their own food.

We started to bring this honey back from the Pyrenees in larger and larger quantities. When people tried it and said that they'd never tasted anything like it before we realised that there's a terrible shortage of proper raw honey here.

Now we have over 16 types of raw honey - from plants as varied as the Oak tree to the Sunflower or Wild Lavender to Orange Blossom.

Each has a unique flavour and properties. Oak for instance is higher in minerals and amino acids than most honeys as well as higher molecular weight sugars (oligosaccharides) - this is good. Oligosaccharides are prebiotics that have a beneficial effect on bacteria in the digestive system.

You can buy some of our honeys at http://www. therawhoneyshop.com/. Our original site pyreneeshoney.com also sells the raw honey from Tio Ramon.

I am Tim Walker. My wife, Karen Puerta, and I set up the Raw Honey Shop (as Pyrenees Honey) in 2008. My wife died in 2013 after a long illness. She wanted me to carry on with The Raw Honey Shop and that is what I am doing.

Come the festive season, there's nothing better than a spiced, warming glass of mulled wine !
Here's for you a mulled wine recipe if you're looking for an idea for nice Christmas drinks ! :)
Make sure you use a wine that you like to drink! If it isn't good cold, it's not going to be any better hot.
... Ingredients
- 2 clementines - 1 lemon - 1 lime - 1 cup raw honey - 6 whole cloves - 1 cinnamon stick - 3 fresh bay leaves - 1 whole nutmeg , for grating - 1 vanilla pod - 2 bottles Chianti or other Italian red wine - 2 star anise
Instructions
1. Peel large sections of peel from the clementines, lemon and lime using a speed-peeler.
2. Put the honey in a large saucepan over a medium heat (if you are unsure about the sweetness level, start with less honey and add more to taste), add the pieces of peel and squeeze in the clementine juice.
3. Add the cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaves and about 10 to 12 gratings of nutmeg. Halve the vanilla pod length-ways and add to the pan, then stir in just enough red wine to cover the honey.
4. Let this simmer until the honey has completely dissolved into the red wine, then bring to the boil. Keep on a rolling boil for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until you’ve got a beautiful thick syrup. It’s important to make a syrup base first because it needs to be quite hot, and if you do this with both bottles of wine in there you’ll burn off the alcohol.
5. When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and add your star anise and the rest of the wine. Gently heat the wine and after around 5 minutes, when it’s warm and delicious, ladle it into heatproof glasses and serve.
Recipe from Jamie Oliver
Hope you'll enjoy this "Christmas in a glass" :)

To seal their hive and to protect against diseases, the bees make a substance called propolis. Propolis is a combination of beeswax, honey, and tree resins, and is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral. It disinfects and protects their hive. It is also very sticky, and honeybees love to use it to seal up any cracks or holes they may encounter on a housekeeping mission.

Everyone knows that the winter is a tough season for your skin. The cold, the wind, and dry air can all add up to some skin disasters! You can try expensive beauty products to fix it, but why not try some simple remedies to heal your hair and skin at home? Check out the simple recipes and directions below!
1. Brown Sugar Scrub for Chapped Lips
- 1 tbsp Brown Sugar... - 1 tbsp Olive Oil - 1/2 tsp Honey
Mix the brown sugar with the olive oil. Once fully mixed, add in the 1/2 tsp of honey. Apply a pea size amount to lips in circular motion. And voila! Super soft lips!
2. Oatmeal and Honey Facial for Dry and Dull Skin
- 1 cup Dry Oats - 1/2 cup Warm Water - 1/4 cup Honey
Mix 1 cup of dry oats with 1/2 cup warm water in blender. Blend until oats are ground thinly and pour into bowl. Mix in honey and apply to your face, leaving on about 10-15 minutes!
3. Peppermint Body Scrub for a Relaxing Shower
- 2 cups Raw Sugar - 1/2 cup Grapeseed Oil - 1 tsp Peppermint Essential Oil
Mix all ingredients in bowl and place in a dry mason jar. To use the scrub, mix small amount in your wet hand and massage onto body. Rinse and pat dry.
4. Pumpkin Facial for Smooth Skin
- 2 tsp Pumpkin Puree - 1/2 tsp Honey - 1/2 tsp Organic Milk (Almond Milk is a great substitute!)
Mix ingredients together in a bowl, and apply to clean dry face. Let dry for about 20 minutes, then rinse.
5. Avocado Hair Mask for Dry Hair
- 1 Avocado - 1 Egg Yolke - 2 tbsp Honey - 1 tbsp Olive Oil
Blend one ripe avocado with olive oil, yolk and honey. Apply thoroughly from root to end and cover with a shower cap for about 30 minutes, depending on the texture and dryness of your hair. Rinse with cool water.

"When I add a spoon of honey to my tea, I give thanks to a dozen bees for the work of their whole lives. When my finger sweeps the final drop of sweetness from the jar, I know we've enjoyed the nectar from over a million flowers. This is what honey is: the souls of flowers, a food to please the gods. Honeyeaters know that to have a joyful heart one must live life like the bees, sipping the sweet nectar from each moment as it blooms. And life, like the world of honey, has its enchantments and stings...." Ingrid Goff-Maidoff, "The Honey Sutras"

As winter settles in our parks, the bees retreat to their hives. With stores of honey averaging about 10kg per colony, the bees huddle together for warmth. They pile in around the honey and the queen, ensuring that neither their food nor their leader freezes. The bees begin to vibrate their bodies - shivering in a sense - without their wings moving. This active motion increases their body temperature. And with thousands of bees doing this at once, temperatures in the hive can reach over 35Β°C! πŸ”₯🐝🐝🐝

On average a worker bee will produce 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime. So it takes 12 worker bees to produce a single teaspoon of honey!

This honey is first class. Real quality and the taste is divine. First class customer service.

User

The honey is very enjoyable. I will order again. Getting through it quickly. Definitely a positive diffeeence between processed honey and raw. A good service too from the honey shop. πŸ™‚

User

Quite the best, purest and varied honey I have found. Highly recommended.

User

Purchased a raw unprocessed antibacterial honey which arrived this morning. I had surgery a couple of weeks ago so bought this to enable my recovery with all the brilliant antibacterial features this honey has, it tastes absolutely delicious! I have previously tried other honeys off the raw honey shop which were equally as lovely. Thank u Tim

User

Mine (heather, arbutus and oak) were landed just today afternoon. When I tasted the first teaspoon of heather, I was like almost screaming "goodness me! goodness me! this stuff tastes divine!" :D - not exaggeration at all (luckily, I was alone in the apartment). Arbutus and oak are also wonderful, so rich and distinct. Having tried and disliked, I'd say, 90% of honey on supermarket self, or those labelled as organic, forest, etc...

I eventually might have given up. When I found the RAW HONEY shop, I was like, meh, I don't like honey, I don't want to try more, let's buy and give them to mom and dad - who cannot start a day without having honey - with a cup of warm water, then chia seed, then bread... (I mean everything).

Now I start regretting for not buying more than three and for not having a bigger luggage to buy as much as I want. Oh dear, I am going to bring your honey (mine should be from Greece and Spain?) from London to Kyoto then to my hometown - a small city in Vietnam. What a long, wonderful trip for the bees!

Being an online shopping addict, I am also very impressed with your services. When I receive the first subscribe email from RHS about crystallisation, I actually spent two nights on reading about forest honey hahaha (it is part of my inner curiosity toward nature and healthy food). Forgive me but I even find your (possibly) automatic emails lovely :)).

This is the first time I ever write such a long review.

Wish you a warm, happy Christmas and I am looking forward to having your honey shipped to Italy - my next-year destination. Love, Anh.

User

Love this honey - worth every penny! We regularly have the Acacia and the Forest for two different but equally delicious tastes - the whole family loves them - and it’s so good for our health too! We also love the fact that we are introduced to the bee keepers via the email updates. Keep up the good work 😊

User

I have replaced sugar with honey and it tastes as good as sugar. I even replaced sugar in hubby's coffee without telling him and he didn't even notice the different taste. He nows uses honey in his coffee! My only problem is which honey to buy ... too many to choose from!

Customer services is great and packaging is lovely. It's the only place I order from :-)

User

I have been buying raw honey from the Raw Honey Shop for over 2 years now and Tim never let me down. Free, safe delivery and Exellent quality Raw honey. Also i love big choice Shop has. All honey is yummy and i would highly recommend it. It's Raw, natural packed with healthy enzymes, amino acids, vitamins.

User

I am so glad that I found The Raw Honey Shop over a year ago. I have never liked the taste of honey, something about it was never quite right. I haven't eaten it since I was 20 ish, apart from a taste to see if I could like it and I never did. When I had a health problem a couple of years ago some one suggested that I eat honey, but not shop bought honey, the real raw stuff. I looked on line, as you do, and looked quite a bit then saw the Raw Honey Shop and read what they said about their honey and what others said and the proprietor explained all about the benefits of honey from the comb, not messed about with at all, nothing added and nothing taken away. So I tried a jar. I have never looked back, this honey is pure, tastes heavenly although there are many different flavours of course, and I am hooked - even having a spoonful as a treat. The staff at the shop are so helpful and kind and it is just a pleasure dealing with them I really do recommend this honey, you won't be disappointed whether you are a honey eater or not, you soon will be.

User

I absolutely love honeys from the Raw Honey Shop. I have tasted several different ones. However my favourite one is Linden honey. The Linden honey has authentic taste for me. It remindes me of holidays spent in Croatia and pleasant smell of linden flowers/blossom!

Customer service and delivery is brilliant! I will be buying more honey soon. Thank you Tim and the team! οΏ½

Excellent selection of flavoursome raw honeys and excellent service to boot. Raw honeys are not easy to find on the high street these days so I was delighted that my daughter put me on to the Raw Honey Shop: raw honey is so much better than the mass-produced pateurised honeys that are in most shops, but beware! supplies are limited and the popular and somtimes rarer varieties sell out very quickly, so my advice is to act when you see they are available.

User

Excellent Honeys (and I have tasted more than a few), delivery really fast, great product information with spot on descriptions - cannot rate this company high enough.
