Hope everyone's having a wonderful 2018 so far! And what could make the new year more spirit-ed than our featured malt whiskies and gins?
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas!
Here we are in Time Out's "27 London alleyways the heart-eyes emoji was created for" piece 😍 https://buff.ly/2ithk3y
Big thanks to all of our amazing customers for your kind donations to Breast Cancer Care! There's still one batch of cake pops left 🍭
Wishing all our lovely customers a fantastic Bank Holiday Weekend from all of us at The Red Lion (including Lynn, this evening's guest barmaid 🍻)
Loving our write-up in Ann Laffeaty's 'Where London's history happened – in the pub' blog!
"Situated in a tiny alleyway off Pall Mall, the centuries-old Red Lion beckons you in with its black timbers and leaded light windows. But it’s the cosy interior and warm welcome that encourage you to stay."
Here's our write-up in Travel and Leisure's 'Editor’s Find: The Secrets of St. James’s, London' - "Crown Passage, which links Pall Mall with King Street, looks every bit like the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter films. Stop for a pint at the warm, welcoming, uber-authentic Red Lion Pub, which reputedly holds the second-oldest beer license in London." https://buff.ly/2uwOa3u
Wishing all our lovely customers a Happy Monday!
Just a reminder that we'll be open this Sunday for the #LondonMarathon (no lions were actually dyed red for this reminder ;) )
Lovely to see we're featured in in the "Perfect Pub Crawl" section of London's 10 Best Bus Routes! "Nip up Crown Passage to the Red Lion, which prides itself on being a ‘village pub’ for the West End."
Wishing everyone a happy Festive Season!
A lovely mention in this history of London's Alleys, Courtyards and Passages. "The small comfortable rooms of The Red Lion, claiming to hold the second oldest licence in the West End, offer relief to the weary or just plain thirsty. Here you can well recline into oblivion and imagine yourself in some place far from central London. Indeed, Crown Passage would fit just as snugly into a quaint old village as it does here in the middle of St James's."
Loving our write-up in The Londonist! "Crown Passage, SW1 - Narrow and crowded with ancient buildings and swinging signs - feels very ye olde worlde. A jumble of sandwich shops and one of London’s finest pubs make for a well-trodden byway. Why use? A visit to the unexpectedly down-to-earth Red Lion is one of the few reasons to go to St James if you are not of noble blood."
When King James I took the throne of both England and Scotland in 1603, he ordered that the heraldic red lion be added to all important buildings, including pubs. As a result of these actions, the two most common pub names in the UK are still "The Crown" and "The Red Lion".
The excitement builds...Go Wales!
This is an incredible traditional old (possibly the 2nd oldest on London?) pub, located down a gaslit alley across from St James' Palace. The staff here are incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere has been extremely welcoming and convivial on all of our visits. My other half says the beer gets top marks, too! Well worth a visit.
Wonderful traditional London pub that's a true gem. Found it by accident on a day out with my son.
Without doubt, one of the finest pubs in London. Possibly the best Corned Beef & Pickle sandwich there is.
We really enjoyed coming back here again yesterday - & what a lovely welcome from the landlady too! It's a small, quaint & unspoilt pub, tucked away in the characterful footpath of Crown Passage (opposite St James's Palace), where it really feels as though you have stepped back into London past.
We loved the paneled bar room with all the historical nik-naks on display too.
Tiny pub that's an absolute gem. Nothing trendified about it. Just a genuine welcome (extended to the dog as well), a fantastic pint of Adnams Mosaic and a generous beef and horseradish sandwich. Could have stayed all afternoon.
Tiny pub near St James Palace. One of the oldest licenses in the West End. Not a tourist trap.
This is a great place, with friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere, not unlike what you might get from your 'local'. It doesn't feel like you are in the middle of London, despite its location. Well worth a visit, it seems to suit every time of year, being in a lovely cool and airy passage in summer, yet having a cosy feel in winter.
It was a pleasant surprise we were greeted so warmly and the sandwiches were just what the Dr. ordered! Lovely beer and wine too. Will definitely be back.
I've been there with my mother in December 2015 and we had a great time drinking some beer and eating some delicious fries. Loved the service.
I absolutely love the Red Lion. The bar staff are awesome and the pub is just great and in ideal location.
Heritage ,
Unforgettable experience .
Truly BB Partner.

Great old school pub down Crown Passage. Excellent service and a relaxed vibe.
Great little pub... We use this pub after our meeting at Mark Mason Hall... The customers are usually more chatty than staff but that's no criticism. Situated off the main road in a quaint alley with some good restaurants..well worth visiting if you just want a quick beer around town.
Great little pub tucked away. Friendly staff with quick service. Would highly recommend.
Amazingly friendly spot located in Crown Passage. Very inexpensive lunch meals and a very friendly staff!
Amazing homely welcoming London pub always has been like that and always will be.
Nice little pub tucked away and not commercial like many of the others around there. Wouldn't like to get to drunk in these and have to judo the stairs going down to the toilets though. Surprised our Health & Safety do gooders haven't shut the place down with them stairs! Good to see pubs like this are still around
Great streak pie. Also good service at the bar with London Pride Unfilteres my favorite.
Great little pub, a hidden gem. Always seems busy which is a good sign.
Small quaint pub tucked away a great find very friendly bar ladies
