About The Regent Centre
THE UK'S MOST SUCCESSFUL INDEPENDENT CINEMA. The Regent Centre is a thriving 1930's Art Deco Cinema, Theatre, Information Centre, Caf├® and Gallery, set in the heart of Christchurch Dorset.
The Regent Centre Description
The Regent opened on Boxing Day 1931 as the townŌĆÖs cinema. The Regent retained this important role in the life of the Community for over forty years until July 1973, when it was closed as a cinema and then re-opened as the Mecca Social and Bingo Club. The final cry of ŌĆśhouseŌĆÖ was sounded in February 1982, only to re-open in June 1983 as an Arts Centre.
Today, the Regent Centre is one of the finest examples of an early 1930s cinema to survive in Britain. Its 450 seats are regularly filled for events as diverse as the latest film releases to professional touring theatre, jazz, big band, ballet, opera and celebrity star shows. The Regent is also the home venue for many local amateur companies, who regularly stage productions at the Centre.

We saw the Christmas Spectacular show. The show was great it made us feel very Christmasy and the theatre was just the right size, very comfortable, the staff were very helpful and the snacks and drinks were priced well
We decided on the Regent to see Paddington 2. Closer than Bournemouth, no parking charges because we walked there and back. About to book a couple more visits. So we will be back. Saw my very first film here in 1963!
THE REGENT THEATRE
AMAZING!! What a sparkle into our dull and dreary December. ŌĆśChristmas Spectacular!ŌĆÖ You have it in spades. Bryan Newman is the ONLY Santa Claus! From tranny to tree topper in six months! Incredible!! The cast were horribly talented! Finn Wright was so engaging, the perfect Elf! Heather Louise, I adore you! You are just perfect. so proud of you and that youŌĆÖre my best mate. Kirstie you darling! Carly and Ellie just wow! Clare you should be a proud Mum! Sue Simmerling, the costumes were above and beyond any west end show. Rob you were sublime, and the wonderful Jack Frost (Mark Everitt) was fantastic, a real joy to hate. What a talented performer. Executing the role perfectly. Nobody else could have done it. We have made a new tradition tonight, and itŌĆÖs a GladRags Christmas for the 40 of us next year. Thanks to Loraine for organising. Go see it! ItŌĆÖs on until the 24th!!
Saw the Christmas spectacular yesterday. It was very entertaining. The costumes lighting singing and dancing put us all in the festive mood. Would defiantly like to make it a regular Christmas event.
Queuing a while for panto audition but staff kept asking if we were ok and if we wanted seating/cafe opening for refreshments ¤æŹ
Lovely to see an old building renovated so well for the use of the community and visitors to Christchurch. We just love the area and to have a facility like this is great
Lovely atmospheric venue, comfortable seats with plenty of leg room, and friendly staff. I love coming here.
Love love LOVE this venue! Took our 12 year-old (very last minute) to see 'Anything Goes' by the Bournemouth Musical Theatre, and the art deco d├®cor perfectly fitted with the theme of the show! The seats were very comfortable, and my 6'2" husband had sufficient leg room (that's saying something). The toilets are clean and modern, and the reception area lively and buzzing. More shows like that one, please!
Last night was the first time we had visited and our entire experience was superb. We parked in the Saxon Square car park which is just a stones throw from the theatre and it only cost ┬Ż2 after 7pm. The theatre itself was very beautiful and very clean and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The seats have lots of leg room and are comfortable. There are lots of beverages and snacks available during intervals which suited all ages. I had a glass of rose wine and my husband had a J20 and it cost ┬Ż6. Including our tickets, parking and drinks our whole evening came in at ┬Ż33, pretty good for a great night out for a couple! We will definitely be back.
Last night saw Nathan Carter what a fab evening I love the regent centre so many different things to see Xmas show to cinema I've seen many so many wonderful shows keep the good work up x
Gorgeous art deco theatre. Lovely staff and I found the seats to be comfier than expected considering its an old venue. Saw Terminator, great cinema feel and a fraction of the price of the new venues, even when showing the new films. Love it. Thoroughly recommend, bargain venue full of character and charm. X
Fantastic theatre and cinema, with lovely staff making it a friendly atmosphere which you can't put a price on. And what you have to pay for is great value for money. Everyone needs to support the Regent as a local treasure.
Fantastic evening with Zoots 60's evening. Love the venue, the staff and volunteers. The show was amazing!
Fab evening at the Christmas spectacular, amazing talented cast, from the many songs and dance routines to the stunning costumes and the children were little stars. Outstanding entertainment ¤æŤæÅ
A fabulous venue. We travelled down from Oxford, two weeks running: first time to see my friend perform with the MMS in My Fair Lady and then the following week to see Cregan and Co. Two very different shows but on both occasions we felt warmly welcomed by a great bunch of people. The staff and audience members were all so nice and the building is so well cared for. I am sure we will find a reason to come again!
Took my grandson last night he enjoyed it x we were upstairs and I had a big man in front of me moving side to side so was a bit of a pain
The staff(box office) go above and beyond to help. The volunteers are lovely. This quirky place caught in a time warp is great. Seats are some of the most comfy too
Unfortunately not the best show to be honest. Quite expensive for what it was. The santa experience at the end was very poor and unorganised and the gift was cheap. My 4 year old did sing along with a couple of the songs but overall I definitely expected a bit more for the money.
Dan Snow "The History Guy". Great evening sharing his life's experiences and his love of history! Wish he'd been my teacher! Dan made it all so interesting! Mostly "off the cuff" too and thats not easy! Recommended!
