The Rex Whistler Restaurant Description

Originally opened in 1927, the Rex Whistler Restaurant was described as ‘The Most Amusing Room in Europe’, owing to its specially commissioned mural, The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats. It has been the site of political and social intrigue over the decades, as well as gaining a reputation for having one of the capital’s finest wine cellars.

What a way to start the day with this arriving in the mail! After a year of recognition for the restaurant this tops it off and is a great reward for the hard work of the team to enchance our offering here at #tate We've had great feedback on all the changes we've made over the last two years and ultimately that is what it's about. The awards are icing on the cake. The 1st time the restaurant has been I inspected (We think in its history) and to be awarded 2 AA rosette's! Fantastic. Now onwards and upwards.

Images from a very special evening for the team & our loyal guests. We welcomed the legendary chef Pierre Koffmann to host an evening celebrating his career and the impact he and the great French impressionist artists made on Britain. A tour of the popular exhibition, followed by a Champagne & canape reception and 4 course dinner with Grand Cru & premier Cru wines from Burgundy & Bordeaux. The signature dishes of Pied de Cochon and Pistachio Souffle were served.

In late December we appointed a new head chef at Tate Britain. We're delighted to share some pictures of our new Head chef Alfio Laudani following a recent photo shoot. Alfio was previously our sous chef and has been working on London for the last decade. Originally from Sicily Alfio brings great experience and big flavours to boot! Alfio's 1st menu went live in early February and has been a big hit with our guests. Congratulations chef!

We had a delicious Sunday lunch for £27 - chocolate fondant was exceptional. Lovely intimate and quiet room with linen table cloths and attentive service. Great for people watching too.

User

We attended the Christmas event on Friday – amazing!! There was a Tate guide giving us the history on the mural, and the food was delicious! Our servers were so knowledgeable about the wine, giving us the back story on each one, and the food was incredible! What a great girls night – can’t wait for the next event!

The food was perfection and the service was perfection I will be back soon

The atmosphere is elegant and calm. The menu is varied. I had pumpkin soup followed by braised brisket. Which does not describe adequately the complex dishes with many elements. I was too full for a dessert - pity! The rosemary bread was totally fabulous and we had a delicious Bordeaux wine with the meal. The waiter was so professional and discreet and the sommelier was very helpful and completely made my meal with her information and warm personality. I can't wait to go back.
