... Hewan Clarke is the quintessential Manchester DJ. If medals were given out for services to the city’s nightlife, based on overall contribution coupled with sheer longevity, he’d be first in line. As the original Haçienda resident, he was a fixture of the club during its difficult formative years – his perspective on this period absolutely vital for anyone wishing to gain a fuller understanding of the clubs evolution. Yet, rather than being regarded as a central figure in Manchester’s rise to prominence during the 80’s, the decade in which the city became world-renowned for its dance music scene, Hewan has been cast as little more than a bit part player. Maybe this is because his association with The Haçienda has obscured everything else he’s done, not least his time at three of the most influential venues of the pre-Rave era – The Gallery, Berlin and The Playpen (not to mention Moss Side’s gloriously notorious Reno). The irony being that The Haçienda could never have exploded in the way it did without these three clubs, along with Legend, laying the groundwork. So, whilst Hewan will always be named in the history books in connection with The Haçienda, his greatest contribution was surely his role as a major player on the all-important black influence

bloody good pub with a bloody good atmosphere.... enjoyed saturday and sunday night.

What a fantastic pub! The lady behind the bar found some books for my daughter to read to keep her occupied! We were really impressed with the prices. I will definitely be back soon and might even stay for pizza � Thank you �

We had a fantastic night, a brilliant band called: Uncle Buck

Really good selection of beer at excellent prices, along with great wine selection.

Worked out way through the pizza menu and are yet to have a bad one.

Friday nights are spent in our local. Good food, good drink, good atmosphere.

As it's getting busier, could do with a few more tables to avoid disappointment.

Pubs like this are increasingly rare, world class beers, excellent food, family friendly, quality non-alcoholic options, music, sports, great hosts.......all wrapped up in a glorious setting. Blinding place.

Last night I had the Minted lamb pizza , the nicest pizza I've ever eaten 😋

Just home from having the best pizza and garlic bread ever! Had the kamikazi spicy beef pizza and a garlic bread, both cooked to absolute perfection and so tasty! Thank you very much The Rising Sun! Can't wait to come back! ☆☆☆☆☆

Just had takeaway pizzas and they were so delicious! You can tell that all the ingredients are fresh, and the dough homemade, perfect thickness and texture, fantastic sauce and great taste combinations. We really enjoyed them �

It was my first time I been in this pub. I bern in England now 11 years this years, and I myself not a pizza fan either. But today be have three deference pizzas it was bloody amazing you can test it it was so nice, I never ever had pizza that nice before.Thank you for your amazing home made pizzas. We will be back for more.Yum yum xx

Dropped in as wanted a break from the road after driving all day. Basically the perfect boozer. Great beer range, great homemade food, views to die for, friendly staff and locals. 10/10

A homely pub with warm and friendly staff. Wide range of Ales and lagers. Proper home made pizzas. Would most definitely recommend anyone to visit.

To be truthful its the only pub I ever visit in the area. I am a wine drinker and they have a good selection of wine at very reasonable prices . And as for the Pizzas ....to die for !! .Sumptious and generously topped and totally hand made from fresh ingredients and lots f Lurve The views from the pub are also quite amazing . wortha visit or two or three !!

Have had the pizzas here and they are lovely BUT on 3 separate occasions have now arrived and for some reason they have not been doing food. Today we went to the trouble of ringing several days ahead and checking the website for serving times. We arrived and were told in a non-too-apologetic tone that they don’t do lunches anymore. Got the impression that the bar lady wasn’t really that bothered by our dissatisfaction. A genuine apology for our inconvenience would have gone far or maybe just update your website!
