We recently had a funeral party here and we were so happy from start to finish with the communication, organisation and helpfulness of the staff. The food was excellent and the drinks were great. The room upstairs was perfect and we could not have asked for anything better. In particular Nick who works behind the bar was very attentive and super helpful with anything we needed. Thank you for such a great service and we would definitely use the party room again in the future.

User

The kids Halloween party was a brilliant idea! Kept the kids entertained for a few hours while my wife and I had a lovely meal! Hope you do it again next year!

User

Really nice place and the smell in the car park is amazing. Food was great. Decent portion size and really tasty. Great service from friendly, polite staff. 10 out of 10.

User

Love this pub, ok the food is a touch pricey but the quality and presentation is excellent. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

User

Had my mums 65th birthday in the barn last night and what a fantastic day it was. Anne was a fantastic help from helping us set up the barn at lunchtime right through to the evening, she is a credit to your pub. Also the other ladies that helped out in the evening were so friendly & helpful & of course the chef, food was fantastic, not one complaint. Thank you again for making this such a fabulous afternoon ๐Ÿ˜Š

User

Found this place during a long bike ride along the transpennine trail and so glad we did! Ordered the Haddock rissotto which was fabulous and my boyfriend ordered the cheese and onion pie which he also said was very tasty. The pub is in a lovely setting with a good sized beer garden at the back, and the children seemed to love the play area. The staff here are very friendly and the service was excellent, even though it was very busy and there was a party.

User

For pub food I was a very pleased American. Service was pretty good and kids enjoyed the play area outside.

User

The fish and chips was very good. The onion rings were superbly crisp. Even the mushy peas were nicely seasoned. A bit pricey and the menu cards are hard to understand and are not very professional. But the food and service was very good. I left a tip which means overall a good experience.

User

High end pub grub, ideal for lunch with the little ones. Good play area with direct view from the barn. You can eat in there to, which worked well for us. Food was tasty and service was quick. A nice way to spend an Easter Saturday afternoon

User

Eleven of us went for a couple of Birthday celebrations. It's a very nice place, with ambiance. Overlooking the river, with nautical touches. The service and food was very good. The cakes that they brought out for the birthday girls are were awesome. We enjoyed being able to have access to go outside and appreciate the view. It was a little pricey, but we truly had a wonderful time.

User

As a strolling group w visit on a regular basis during our strolls . Food is always very good. Time they made a dog friendly area. Outside seating is very good when the weather is fine such as Saturday just gone it was nice to sit in the sun. But during winter months we sometimes avoid this route because outside is not an option even with the heaters.

Went yesterday with my son and his family for my birthday treat. Place looks lovely. ... nice and clean. When we arrived we were told they had a table big enough for the 5 of us but would need to vacate it by 5pm. As it was only 3.10pm we said no problem. We were given menus (a sheet of paper ) we decided what we wanted and ordered. The children menu looked good not the usual fish fingers, burgers and nuggets (although my youngest grandaughter Did order chicken nuggets ) we ordered Drinks. We waited 50 minutes for our meal to arrive. .. considering they needed the table that was rediculas. I had ordered Home made 3 cheese and onion pie.. with hand cut chips and seasonal vegetables. The "homemade pie" was identical to one I had in a Lees pub in chadderton. So home made means made elsewhere frozen and shipped to various pubs. "Handcut" chips were frozen chips and rock hard. The seasonal vegetables was a variety of vegetables all mixed together with salad on top so the salad was hot as well. My son ordered a 10oz steak which came with around 4 oz of fat that needed cutting off .... he also ordered a side of onion rings which were in a small bowl with an inch of oil in the bottom. My grandaughter nuggets looked like mini fish. There was just 2 of them coated in a very greasy fish batter. We then ordered pudding which also took ages to arrive. When they did the children pudding were the same size as the adult pudding. .... seeing as the adults is ยฃ3 dearer I'm not sure how that works. ... by the time the pudding arrived we had 10 minutes to the 5pm deadline. We rushed our pudding as a result then had to wait for the bill for a further half an hour. .. Nobody bothered to say we have sorted out the table so no need to rush....... The staff were friendly and helpful. And seemed to be rushed off their feet. My son ended up going to the bar for one round of drinks half an hour after we ordered it as the waitress was dashing about. Would we go back. ... yes but only for a drink. At ยฃ170 for 5 people I expect the food to be much nicer and not have to wait so long

We visited the rope & anchor yesterday for dinner. We have eaten here several times over the last few years and the food has always been very good. I'm not sure if anything has changed since we last visited as we hadn't been for a while but I was so disappointed. I ordered a Sunday dinner and didn't eat very much as it was tasteless. The waitress asked if everything was ok as she was clearing away my practically full plate so I politely told her it was very bland. Straight away she seemed very offended and went into defence mode. 'What do you mean bland, we have all had Sunday dinner for lunch and we all thought it was very tasty!' I didn't go into detail as she already had her guard up so I just repeated in my opinion it was very bland. We finished our drinks and left. The beef was ok a bit dry around the edges but smothered in gravy & horseradish was edible. The roast potatoes were very dry like they had been cooked in spray oil or as if they had been sitting around for a while. The Yorkshire pudding was huge but only the middle bit was tasty. The outside was crunchy & a bit burnt. All the veg was tasteless and lacking seasoning. The carrots I was expecting to be fresh but they looked & tasted like tinned/frozen carrots. There were boiled potatoes which in my opinion should have been mash. The gravy was very sparse and again it was tasteless a bit like Bisto. I was considering booking Christmas dinner here but I'm glad I tried it first. My husband ordered the potato gnocchi which looked lovely but he said the tomato sauce was very strong which took over every other item in the dish. The kids ordered the tomato penne pasta and if it's the same base sauce used I understand what he means as it was very overpowering almost sickly to a point. All in all food wise very disappointing. The service however was very good & very quick esp for a Sunday teatime. The pub itself is lovely, very cosy with fab decor. The outdoor play areas are a bonus for anyone with kids and it was these factors alone that I gave it 3 stars. The food let it down. I would definitely go back for a drink but may give the food a miss for a while.

User

The bar staff ( young lady) very abrupt looked very stressed.

We ate in the side bar. Table was Dirty and Sticky , and unstable ,Rocking , food was mediocre , no one came to ask how the food was ,no one came to clear away and ask if we would like a Dessert , a couldn't care less attitude ,won't be back

User

Same experience as the person below. Been here a few times and the food was always spot on! Brought some other members of the family here on a Sunday because I kept telling them how good the Sunday roast was. It was really bad no taste at all beef was like it had been boiled, potatoes awful Yorkshire pudding looked good but was tasteless,we sent it back and it was replaced with turkey that again tasted of nothing!really disappointed! Has something changed?

User

Monday afternoon so not busy in the pub

Lovely pub in lovely surroundings

Staff perfectly pleasant

We had a long wait for our mains that were perfectly edible but nothing special.

User

This place has always been my go to for Sunday dinner because it was fresh, big portions, tasty and like a home cooked roast dinner. This time however something had gone horribly wrong, from reading the other reviews too I believe I am not the only one with this opinion. Everything was bland, underseasoned and over done. I had the pork, the mash was chewy and the Yorkshire over done. The veg underdone and not enough gravy. My mum had the beef and got the cut with the fat running right down the middle meaning she had to cut that bit out. Ordered cauliflower cheese that isn't cauliflower with cheese sauce it's cauliflower with cheese on. My dad ordered a burger that was burnt and my other half got a pie with chips that were underdone. Generally naff cooking where it was always the complete opposite before now. Also I generally found the ladies front of house very flustered at busy periods, my view is you shouldn't put that many tables in your restaurant if you can't service them with the same level of service at all times. Get more staff if necessary as it has definitely affected my view of the place, so they are on the back foot before I have even ordered. The cherry on the top of the visit was watching the manager drop cutlery onto the floor then picking it up and setting the table with the cutlery off the floor!!!!! Terrible... this visit that has definitely made me leave it a while before visiting again. Usually I would recommend it to anyone but not before I have been again and seen an improvement!

User

I've eaten here before an it was very good but my meal here on Sunday was terrible, I was served a cold roast dinner, it came out a second time Luke warm... the vegetable were horrible, 1 carrot and a pile of leeks. Defiantly won't be eating here again.

User

Extremely disappointed with the food tonight. My wife didnโ€™t eat at all as they delivered her meal burnt and tried to hide the burnt food with a bundle of green salad. My meal was poor to say the least and not enjoyable, especially given I was eating alone. Not how we wanted to spend our Friday evening. Canโ€™t quite believe we had to pay the bill all things considered. However you did advise my wifeโ€™s meal would not be charged. I would hope not she didnโ€™t eat. This is not the first time we have been disappointed. Such a shame as we love to support local.
