User

We got a gorgeous room with a sea view, room was very clean and housekeeping service good, we checked in around 1 pm as requested and checked out quite late around 11:30 without extra charges. The swimming pool and sauna was fantastic and the garden really nice, lobby area vintage and cool!

User

Stayed for one night and was upgraded to a suite as the basement room I had booked wasn't ready (I had paid for early check in too) Lovely room, lovely hotel, lovely spa. Staff were friendly. Car park next to hotel was £10 for 24 hours which I didn't think was too bad being in the town centre. Will definitely be going back. Only bad thing is the room was too hot (couldnt control heater) and there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Otherwise no complaints

User

I had read the reviews, and I was not sure whether to stay or not in this hotel, however, the locations it is espectacular. The service was magnificent, very clean, it’s huge building more like a maze but we found our way, sea view it is fantastic, spa was great, I would recommend it to everyone specially families with children. I must admit it is date, but the other qualities mentioned above are a huge plus for this hotel. We hope to come back again.

User

We stayed here for the weekend 10/11 February 2018. For what we paid thought it was lovely. It’s a very large hotel and was a trail to find our room but not a problem. Our room was a standard double which we thought had recently been decorated and was tasteful, bathroom also. The only down side to room if picking a fault was that they put the coffee table below the tv with facilities for making hot drinks but there was no where to plug the kettle in! So had to plug in under a dressing table! The spa facilities were good, we had to pay an additional £4 each but not a problem. The staff we encountered were helpful. We did stay for Sunday lunch which was £9.99 per person for 3 courses, which was poor , but again you pay for what you get, we would however stay again but not stay for lunch!!

User

I didn't stay here so can only comment on the spa - be clear that it isn't a spa but a public pool with a salon attached. Lots of noise which could be heard clearly in the treatment room. It wasn't terrible but not one to return to - there are many better spas out there. I notice lots of bad reviews and no replies to them - my advice to the management would be to acknowledge the failings and work on them to get a higher rating.

User

Came here using a Groupon Voucher and had a really good deal.

Good points: Fantastic location, clean room, friendly staff, nice breakfast.

Bad points: £20 per 24 hours parking is a bit expensive, the hot buffet options were very minimal (chicken or fish), only 2x20 mins of free internet per room.

Overall I would return but only using a voucher or discounted website

User

Came for the night last night, initially the room we booked didn't look like the picture we had seen, it was supposed to be a double but very small, we made a comment to reception and they upgraded us to a room with a sea view free of charge, was very happy with this room, the view was nice and could hear the sea which was so pleasant. The towels were fairly small which wasn't ideal and the quilt a little on the thin side, but we did enjoy our stay. We went in the pool but have the changing rooms were very dirty, hair all over the floor after showers dirty towels all over the floor and wrappers on the floor. The pool area needs renovating hugely. We also noted for breakfast and it was 10.50 each which didn't think was too bad really as it was a buffet style. The grounds were nice and the hotel is large. Very close to town and the beach so ideal if this is what your after.

User

They charge for everything. £4 to use the pool, £1 for a towel, £20 to park the car!

Since we've been here, we've heard nothing but complaints from other guests. Our room is okay, but noisy. Didn't sleep well on the first night, hoping for better tonight.

The Spa has no space for guests as they sell space in Groupon to locals to make sure it's full. Not good. But, because of that we found an amazing place called Forever gorgeous in the Queen's hotel which was amazeballs!

Came back to the hotel afterwards and saw an empty condom wrapper on the top of the main stairs. Not a nice image. Told staff and 3 hours later it was still there!

Some staff are great and some don't care. Breakfast is the worst I've ever seen, and working in a food environment this was important to me. I had to pay extra for it and it was appalling quality. Just like a greasy spoon. Pick up a piece of bacon and you get 6 stuck together. I had to ask 3 times for a poached egg!

Will not be staying again unless they update and move with the times. It's a beautiful building that just isn't being cared for

User

Supposed to be 4 star but is very basic and shabby, more like a 2 star. The room was cold, the kettle didn't work and you would not want to have a bath in the bath tub. The shower was good though, as was the breakfast. The main parts of hotel are nice but couldn't sit in the bar in the evening cos some very loud, terribly out of tune, duo was playing and wanted a quiet drink but there was nowhere for a quiet drink. Won't stay there again.

User

Nice room, with good view, bed comfy and although the room was opposite the lift we weren’t disturbed.

However, we won’t return due to the poor WiFi. 20mins free per 24hr in room, but “unrestricted” in the bar and public areas. However it would crash out continually and needed reconnecting.

Breakfast room was like being in the middle of a coach holiday. Not a good experience.

Seems this is being run for profit not creature comforts.

User

My daughter treated me to a spa and Afternoon Tea here for a Mothers day gift. AVOID THE SPA...I find it hard to believe this is connected to a 4 star hotel. The changing rooms were disgusting! I dont think they had been decorated since they opened. Half of the lockers were broken and the doors were hanging off. All of the individual changing rooms had a curtain across them, not much privacy. The only 2 showers they had were in a state that nobody would want to use...a small hand held shower, dirty floors, and hair blocked drains. They smelt unpleasant and a few other women were also complaining about the facilities. The pool area had signs all around it saying no mobile phones and yet I counted at least 6 people on loungers using their phones! The pool was ok if, a little cold. Luckily we used the jacuzzi before 3 other people got in and stayed in it the whole time without leaving to allow the cleaning process to take place - one man even appeared to be having a wash in it. The sauna was ok and the steam room again, was ok but had a dirty door. When we left I complained to the Leisure manager as my daughter felt bad but he didn't seem that bothered and just said to send an email, happily pointing out the e.mail address to us. Fortunately the Afternoon Tea was a more enjoyable experience - to make up for a disappointing morning. The sandwiches were edible and the cakes were quite tasty. We were even entertained by a family on the next table having a full on row!!!

User

Everything was ok. Bedroom a bit small for two, was expecting a bit more space. Breakfast was poor. Only english breakfast as a choice.

Lovely place for a couple escape but a believe there's plenty more and better places to stay. Still, a good deal for 1 night.

User

check in was 3pm, but couldnt get a room till 5pm, the room they gave us was full of rubish, hairs and all that, they offer us another large room, we went to open the door, and someone was still living there... after that we got a sea view room without extra charge....finaly! couldnt find rooms at all, coridors is like labirinths.... in spa area its so cold cuz they keep doors and windows all opened, and sauna ant steam room smells very bad.... Only one think is good about hotel is Location .

User

Unhelpful, argumentative staff. Very poor service. and the hotel is very tired and in dire need of refurbishment. The carpet in the dining room still had a lot of crumbs and serviettes from the previous night's diners and clearly had not been vacuumed since the night before. I could go on, but this pace is best avoided in my opinion.

User

The only good thing about this hotel is its location. The room was shabby and the bathroom was disgusting. Black mould on tiles, ingrained stains on the bath. No bath mat. Curtains coming off tracks. The food was disgusting. We had to go out for breakfast. When I went to complain before I unpacked the receptionist was totally indifferent and couldn’t care less. She said that the hotel was full and that she could only offer me a room of a lesser grade. I asked how many stars the hotel had and she replied, ‘none’. I wasn’t surprised. The cost of parking was £18 per day. You had to pay to use the pool. Everything was extra to pay on top of the room charge. We had booked a double room and a twin room for my two adult children. We made sure we didn’t use the bedrooms to relax in as they were uncomfortable. No air conditioning. The noises from the street and road were loud and went on all night. Other guests I spoke to were of the same opinion. Avoid at all costs.

User

Small dingy room , I asked for a quiet room and got anything but, had an extractor fan going all night from another room which kept me awake,

Doors banging from other guests

When I finally got to sleep I was woken up at 04:20 by someone phoning the room phone,

Then the checkout time is 10 and even thou I had put the do not disturb sign on my door.

House keeping banged on the door at 08:05 to clean the room.

This place may well be one of the first hotels in Bournemouth and have a lot of history, but it’s time to pull there arses out of the last century and give this place a major overhaul.

Avoid it like the plague unless you enjoy not sleeping well. Also they charge £20 for parking. £4 to use the swimming pool

This hotel has gone into my top ten of worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at

User

I have a voucher worth £110 to use in the spa but booking to use it seems like the hardest thing I've ever come across. I have called the hotel 12 times over the last 3 weeks and have only got through once. when I spoke to the man in the leisure club he told me there was no availability in the spa before the voucher expiry date, at the time this was 3 weeks before the expiry date, and in this case there was nothing he could do - i will just lose the voucher. Not happy with this I continued trying to call again to speak to a manager - this time the only phone option that put me through to someone was new bookings for 10 or more rooms. it put me through to someone at a central office who said there is a problem with the phone lines at this hotel..... but gave me an email address to which I sent an email but of course, no reply. I have just tried to call 2 more times this morning but again, no answer, so have tried to drive down. it's taken ages due to the nice weather and it's great location but upon arriving there is no parking! having my 8 month in the car I had no choice but to turn around and come home. I've just tried to call again but shock, no answer. my voucher expires tomorrow and I'm assuming i will be expected to just lose it?! very bad experience and I haven't even stepped foot in the door.

User

Friday night was good, no issues with the dog in the bar. Saturday was a different kettle of fish by lunchtime; told we can’t have the dog in the bar area, (my other party member has been bringing her dog here for years, which is why we came), we were then told we could have the dog in another room off the corridor. This room had a piano in which fascinated the kids, until an extremely rude member of staff turned up and said if they can’t play it properly keep them off it. We then decided to go to the swimming pool and just after we had paid, 3 adults, 3 kids, we were told it was the wrong time period for kids but we were ok to go in. No sooner had we got changed and into the water we were asked to leave the pool as it wasn’t allowed to have kids in until 3pm. This was the same woman who had just said it was ok, we were happy to have come back later but waiting until we got into the water was shockingly poor taste. Still got 1 night to go so I’m dreading what happens next.....

User

Appalling hotel, room was dirty, mildew on window, hot water only Luke warm, black hairs on & in the bed. Bed old & rickety, pillows were flat as pancakes. Poor signage to find your room. Breakfast was half hour late opening which meant I had to leave without anything due to work commitments. Quickly decided o couldn’t stay a second night, tried to check out, man at reception said I couldn’t as I had another night booked even after explaining to him & a colleague, still I couldn’t check out as the manager was already more than half late arriving. Left email address after being assured I would get email confirmation as soon as she arrived.

Called reception several times throughout the day - no answer every time, resorted to calling their central reservation line, gentleman was apologetic & assured me it wasn’t acceptable & I was to email them listing every issue - more than 24 hours later, I’ve still NOT had a reply!
