Today our Tour Guides welcomed Thomas Dennis, taking time out from playing “Albert” in the National Theatre’s acclaimed “War Horse” now playing at the Theatre Royal inspired by Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel. Sadly there was no sign of “Joey”. As far as we know, Charles II never brought his steed “Blew” to the Citadel, when he opened it in 1671. Nor did the Duke of Wellington bring his legendary Warhorse “Copenhagen” with him, when he visited as Governor of Plymouth Citadel. All 3 would have been very welcome as Horses would have been an important part of a Soldiers Life in the Royal Citadel from the C17th right up to the early part of the C20th.
